Hi all! Been visiting PEEL off and on now for the past couple of months and finally decided to join. Why you may ask? Because I have something to plug of course. My website is A Big Piece of Garbage and is run by me, designed by me and has stuff in it that I like. Namely Futurama!
Although not 100% fully operational I am doing the best I can to update on a regular basis and to put content up that I feel interested in doing.
Stop by and take a look and look into my guestbook for a contest that I am running as part of the grand opening of my site. It has to do with the possibility of Dark Horse Comics doing a squishy Zoidberg similar to the forthcoming HG Blob toy. All comments will be read by Dark Horse and there is the possibility that a squishy Zoidberg will be made in the future.
Also, even though there has been some flack generated here about the Futurama Message Board, stop by and say hello! We really aren't that bad.
Anyways, look forward to being part of this board.

In my opinion, Zoidy ought not be squishy. Unless he's sans shell. THOSE FOOLS

Good effort on making a site about the show. However its not really much of a design but i still admire the dedication.

TheMadCapper - yes I would guess he would come sans shell as he was shown in the episode 'Amazon Women in the Mood.' I think this could be a real fun figure with a towel around his waist or different shells to slip him into.
drew - yea the design is a little plain. I intend to fill it out some more still but still keep it a little on the reserve side. There are plenty of other Futurama sites out there that have cool graphics and java something or another so I decided not to do the same thing. That and I wouldn't have a clue as to how to do alot of those things.
While I like alot of the Futurama sites out there to me they all look the same or are derivations on the same design. So that was actually another reason to do something different. Besides, I am really doing this for my own enjoyment. Of course, I want to share it with other people and have people visit my site and enjoy it as well so I can see the value of other opinions besides my own. Just think of it as another place to visit on the net.
Thanks for the comments guys let's keep them coming!

OK, you're off to a decent start. It's a little plain, but that's OK.

One Problem is that it's a bit too wide. A lot of people (like me) run their screens at 800x600, and some run at even lower res.

Now, what you need is unique content. Jon's site offers pretty much everything yours does. You need to find a specialty.

It's not like we tear all sites down to shreds for no reason. Many people on PEEL either run some site or know what they like for years now and comment on things they would want improved.

So, here is my complaint for yours:
Change the font please  :p The serif font family is pretty hard to read on webpages. Also, for your news section: Don't try centered text for multiple long lines. The eye has problem to find the next line's start. Many people skip such text as they only see a blob of letters.

Otherwise, nice to see new sites coming up.

Kryten - I never thought about the screen resolution. That is an interesting observation. At this point I probably won't change it but will keep it in mind for any future web endevours I partake in.
Yes it is true that alot of what I have listed is listed on Jon's site in the way of merchandise - but hey, that is all the merchandise that is out there. That and the fact that almost everything you see on my site I own and these are pictures and scans of those items. I know it seems like it is a merchandise page and it actually kind of started out to be that but it will grow to encompass more in the future. Alls I need is time to do it. As far as finding a specialty are you talking about being character specific, or merchandise specific or something along those lines? Again, I didn't want to travel down that road as there are plenty of other sites out there that cover those areas well enough and I really wanted to concentrate on Futurama as a whole. I guess you might say that eventually Futurama would be my specialty. The show section is really lacking right now and I am working on getting that up and I have some other ideas about what to focus on in that area.
-mArc- - I do not view comments here or other places as trying to tear down what I have done. After all I really do this for my own enjoyment and would continue to do so even if nobody came to my site. When creating the site, I as I am sure alot of you go thru, have basically been working in a vacuum. Not until it is up and comments from others do I really start to see things from a different perspective which all of the comments have done for me. So thank you to all who have took the time to look and comment.
I really like the font on there but will take your suggestion under advisement. I may create my own font or different graphics for alot of that stuff as some of it was just place holders to get the site up and running. I am sure in the coming months I will revisit alot of the desing on it.
I agree with you on the news section and it is something that I have been thinking about since I started. I have some other ideas on how to get around the blobby appearance of the news section that I hope to work on in the very near future.
Again, thank you all for the comments!

Woah, nice posts there, Bendo.  :)
As for your site, your layout sucks and you don't have much content, but like drew, you did dedicate yourself.

Gee Greg, thanks - I think? If that is the way you are going to be about it I'll just go and make my own message board that will heap praise on me and it will have black jack and hookers. OK, forget about the message board!
Thanks for the welcome Kazaad - welcome to you too! Quickly now go to my site and follow the link to the contest at my guestbook and enter. It will cure all that ails you!

Uhh, no...you posted a link to your site, so I criticized it and at the same time I welcomed you. I don't hate you. If you post a link to your site, expect some opinions. No offense or anything, but it's just common sense.

If you use reply, there is a host of smileys to be used, and you can see how they're typed. And you can even give your post a "heading icon" (like the Fry on this one, no Leela though  :(  ).

And welcome to PEEL, Bendo. Enjoy it here.

Welcome to PEEL Bendo! Doing a general Futurama site like that is hard to maintain, I hope you pull through. And a few design tips: Do most of your work within tables. You can't go wrong with tables if it means making an organized page layout. Add some extra color to your site, too.

I suggest get working on the content before you change the design. It is easier (for me anyways) to create and update content than to strain your creative mind thinking of a great layout design.

Greg is the web page criticizer. Take everything he says with good humour. He doesn't hate you, he's just critical.

Just Chris - thanks for the welcome. Yes it can be difficult to maintain especially now with the new season starting. I hope it will be a matter of getting the layout done and so updating will be easy as it will just be plugging in new stuff as I need to. Yes - tables are wonderful! I actually thought I was using too many tables as they are all over the place in the design.
At this point the design of it is complete. I will not be changing anything to the layout of it but rather trying to spruce things up here and there. Like changing the graphics on the buttons, a new banner for different holidays - things of that nature.
totalnerduk - thanks. Not a bad site? But is it a good site?  :p
rach_the_tall - yea I didn't take his original comments too seriously. That is why I posted what I did about the hookers and blackjack. I thought it was a joke that everybody would get.
