CGEF's become less relevant since the show's cancellation as it has little new news to report.  And TLZ sold itself out by dropping it's Leela theme in favour of becoming a generic fanart/fanfic site.

They're both good for different reasons.  CGEF is the ultimate information website, while TLZ is a conglomerate art site.  The thing that TLZ really has going for it is that it has updates daily, sometimes more than one because of its panel of webmasters.  However as I said, CGEF is the information site to help answer any question you might have; it ownz this aspect so much that it is almost completely ignorant to make an information site.

I think they both have decent layouts, although I wouldn't mind seeing CGEF get a facelift.  And since TLZ dropped the Leela thing, they've had some interesting prospects, such as the rotating pictures etc.

I'm sick of these bad framegrabs no affence to CGEF but I want to pay for a web host this summer and make a framegrab site of DVD quality framegrabs for each episode of Futurama seasons 1-4 , Family Guy seasons 1-3 and The simpsons seasons 1-3 now that would be nice of me wouldnt it?

anyway back on topic, I personally like TLZ because CGEF has dulled down alot lately I like TLZ daily updated and large Fan art/Fan fic sections

EDIT: also jerkberg, you might want to fix the link for TLZ

#1 Chunks, not every site can be a fan art/fiction site.  We already have two big ones: TLZ and FSAC; that's certainly enough.

#2 I happen to know for a fact that CGEF is redoing their frame grabs section, so there you go...

I agree with PCC Fred above, that TLZ "sold out" changing to a full blown Futurama site instead of just a Leela site.

And my site, TFH, needs more regular updates, but the only other webmaster that helps has trouble with his internet connection etc. (Yea, that's right Boggy  :p )

Meh. Feel free to create your Leela site if you think we've sold out. BTW, TLZ has only for a short time been a Leela-only character site, for some years it was accepting content that was non-Leela related. Sure, it concentrated on Leela from the start, but it wasn't Leela-only. We knew it would bring calls like yours that we "sold out", but we've been selling out since we started.  ;)

As to this topic, do we need these types of competitive threads? I'll abstain.  ;)

It will always remain The Leela Zone in my book, whether you receive other stuff or not... Or if you change its name to Futurama on Drugs or whatnot.... It's always going to be the Leela site, whether you guys like it or not  :p

TLZ is better for fan art and other fan related things. I think the fan art helps keep the fan community alive, we all keep the vibe going by creating new art, so TLZ gets credit for that. CGEF is better with news and updates, and the fans can keep things fresh with comments about this, and the episode and comic reviews...
Basically, what I'm trying to say here is I like them both equally...

Also, A Big Piece of Garbage is a great site...

Sure, it probably will be that to many of our visitors and those who've given up on us. However, sometimes you have to piss off some people in order to move forward.  :p Anyway, I still think the vast majority of our visitors come to us for varying reasons that aren't Leela related. Seems to be the case of a vocal minority who see us as "selling out".

...TLZ?? ah.. Futurama Madhouse  :p. FM has some more points over CGEF because of the frequent content updates. CGEF by now only post news of the Series (that is also important)... but sometimes the content is what it matters most (that's what I think)

They're both great in their own respects. Like everyone's said, TLZ is the best for original content (fan art, fiction, comics, etc.) with some information thrown in (the graphic guides, namely). CGEF, however, is the best for all-around info on the show. I guess, because of the vast differences between the two, I'll have to say it's a tie.

TLZ (Futurama Madhouse)

I really don't see CGEF as competition. What exactly are we competing at?

Fan Content:
TLZ has truckloads, updated often.
CGEF rarely uploads new stuff, and the bulk of their "content" sections is years old.

Episode Information:
CGEF has capsules with everything you can possibly find in an episode.
TLZ only has a single-line summary for each ep.

Updates:
TLZ updates every day; in the rare event a day goes by without an update, it's balanced because of the days when several updates go up at once. The updates always include a little bit of content for the visitor to look at, no matter what it is.
CGEF updates maybe once or twice a week (now; there were weeks where it didn't update at all) and the updates are either: rumours are are debunked later; merchandise news (the BUY STUFF NOW! kind of update TLZ won't do because we hate ads) or web news (like the Artxilla thing, those news are covered by TLZ as well). Content updates are... extremely rare (nonexistant for the past couple of months).

Merchandise News:
CGEF has tons of Futurama ads everywhere, and updates with every new bit of merchandise telling people to BUY IT NOW! [Already stated that I hate those things; they're just ads, darnit!]
TLZ has a single Merchandise page that rarely updates and is in danger of being deleted with every update. And no ads in the site, thankyouverymuch.

"Mood":
TLZ is a mess. We're nuts. We'll update with a pic of a little worm giving the finger to Bush, say that Internet Explorer sucks, post a picture of the webmaster as a Lego, and run polls on the World Cup and European Football. We have our opinions and we darn sure express them, and if we feel like turning the side inside-out and upside-down, heck we'll do it and damned what anyone thinks. We update the site for FUN, and we have FUN.
CGEF is... a much more "serious" site, if you will. Almost pretending it's not a fansite. There are some lines like "another crapworthy newstopic brought by your favourite slimmy", but otherwise the updates are just updates: "we just got reported this thing and we'll share it with you. Move along, now". It doesn't look like a fun website.

I could go on and on about how TLZ and CGEF are different. When a person visits TLZ, is looking for something completely different to what it would find on CGEF. And TLZ simply has another mood. I find CGEF boring.

Later,
Leandro.

What kind of an asshole starts a poll like this? Are you trying to divide all the sites? Wait, I heard that had been done years ago. But in any case, cut it out.

I like them both the same. CGEF is where I go for my Futurama info, TLZ is where I go for my Futurama fan material. Both sites rule, although I feel the quality of both sites has dropped slightly lately, for the reasons PCC Fred listed.

I can see why this was deleted earlier. It's an incredibly polarizing issue.

TLZ is great for people who like fanart and stuff, whilst CGEF is a goldmine for people looking for answers. PEEL is a great place to Nerd It Up, and contains people who visit both sites. The answer is therefore obvious: TLZ and CGEF are not comparable, and PEEL ownz them both, as is fitting, since it was originally the retarded love child of [-mArc-] and Slimmy, who run CGEF, and occasionally trade professional greetings with the TLZ guys.

Hmm. That was almost a "six degrees of Futurama fansites".

Burns: "Goodness! I didn't realize this casual thread was going to turn into a charged political debate."

Many theories abound I see, about the differences between the two sites. And how they both are going the way of the Simpsons, ie. not up to their former self. All nice theories, but still theories, grounded on different agendas. IMO you all overlook the real reason: the show has ended! All the seasons are out on DVDs. The computer game was released months ago. AS have shown all episodes several times over. All we have left are calendars and comics.

Naturally CGEF will have less news to report. Ofcourse fanfics/fanart is going to diminish slightly in amount (although we still have quite a good stream of contributions to TLZ    ;)). It's a natural evolution from the sad state of the show.

Anyway, nipping this in the hbud before I start to rant to incoherent. CGEF and TLZ are two different sites and actually compliment eachother rather nicely. Both are good sites, and both are pillars of (what's left of) the Futurama community. That's my opinion, and so have it always been, I see nothing here that could make me change it. And CGEF and TLZ are fully capable to live in peaceful coexistence, afterall Slimmy and I have been to 3 AGI's by now without being at eachothers throat.  ;)

I don't understand this need to rank apples and oranges. It's like the Fry vs Zoidberg debate all over. And really we allready have a favorite website poll.

Finally, how did TLZ "sell out"? Do you see any ads, banners, endorsements, etc. on our site? Did we suddenly start praising FOX as the virtue of good, a bastion of good taste and intelligence? Can you find a single piece of content  (apart from the Leela bio, which will return in a few days, once I'm done writing it    :p) missing from the site compared to a few months back? How did we "sell out"?

Oh yeah, I abstain from voting (for obvious reasons)   ;).

I'd like to point out something about CGEF's ads... they pay for our contests amongst other things.  And frankly, I think advertising Futurama and products Futurama fans would be interesting in, while doing in a "clean" manner, is quite good.  If I go to a teen-based message board and get ads for ways of saving money on my morgage, I get annoyed, due to the fact that it's idiotic to display those kinds of ads to a teen audience. with CGEF, I think it's done perfectly fine.

Also, as others have stated.. if you want general futurama information, CGEF. If you want fan based stuff, TLZ.

Teral, that's mostly because I didn't even know you were a webmaster of tlz   ;) and I'm not kidding... but that wouldn't be a reason to be at your throat anyway   :p

I'm going to close this now... it's unfair to put them against eachother, and there is already another poll going on that has more sites to choose from...
