SPOILER ALERT !

For those of you curious about the Season 4 DVD box art ... it's a reminiscent of the Region 1 (I'm not sure if the R2 was similar or not) Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box DVD packaging where the slip cover featured characters in full color (in Futurama's case it's Fry, Leela and Bender). On the Toy Story DVDs when you slip the cover off, there's wireframe versions of the characters. On the Futurama box, there's X-Ray shots of the characters. Also ... these may or may not be glow in the dark (it hasn't been decided yet whether or not they will be).

Inside, the DVD covers themselves follow suit with the previous seasons and feature 4 sections of a season specific collage.

I have no idea what the Toy Story DVD packaging looks like but that description sounds grooby. I don't really like glow in the dark though as it wears off after a while.

Yup, that's the one ... though it doesn't really show the "wireframe" characters on the inside of the slip cover. Instead of the silver box on the Toy Story DVDs, Futurama's will be black. The clear (except for the characters, of course) slip cover features Leela, Fry and Bender floating. The inside features sort of a wireframe/x-ray combination illustration of each of them.

As far as a picture ... you'll just have to wait and see -- I can only do so much ...

Aaah, the box will be black, I always wondered what colour it would be. I guess it'll look pretty clool in black alongside Season 3's dark blue

That's kind of weird - with all the other boxes, hasn't it been released in the Scandinavian countries before the UK?

What i meant was is it on track for release before christmas or is it going to turn up late. if it slips then i might consider suicide.

I thought Futufan mentioned sometime ago that the European release date would be around spring of next year, as there is still a lot of work to do on the DVD set.  I'm confused, because in that case, the November release date doesn't make any sense.

I had originally thought that a pre-2004 release date was darn near impossible, but who knows now ... it may actually happen and I'll have to eat my words on that one. The menu production work has been complete for several weeks now, and the discs are being authored as we speak. I haven't heard a concrete date yet, though -- you guys will probably hear that one before I do. Who knows ... maybe Santa will be gunning us down with Season 4 box sets after all.  :)

That's awesome that the menu production work is complete. Things are looking up for a pre-Christmas release  :D We're all really greatful for your info, but do you know anything about these menus? Wasn't David X. Cohen himself involved?  :)

It would have been commercial suicide for Fox to release Futurama S4 in the Spring, because

1) There's a possibility Sky would not be showing it then (they currently are plugging repeats)

2) [very, very important] They'd miss the Christmas sales

Sure, it would have made a lot of money in the Spring, but it'll make more money if it's released in time for Christmas.

As a matter of fact, I do know a thing or two about the menus and yes, DXC was involved, but only in writing and coordinating the recording of dialogue by certain cast members to be used over the menu animations. DXC has only recently become involved with the menus and I think if there were more seasons to come (if only), he would have become even more and more involved (hence his recent wishes to add dialogue to the forthcoming Region 1, Season 3 menus).

I'll be kind of annoyed if the Region 1 version of Season 3 is different from the Region 2 set I have. Of course, I'm sure Americans would love some extra dialogue, but what about us poor Europeans? Won't someone please think of the children!

I hope they go with the glow in the dark idea for the wireframe characters.  I think that would be pretty neat looking.  I have to remember to preorder mine tonight.

It's kinda sad really, once this set has been released futufan will become obsolete. But due to all the consistantly reliable info he's provided over the years, atleast he'll be "obsoletely fabulous"!

To answer moonbus69's question above ... Production on the Region 1 Season 3 & 4 DVDs have not even begun yet -- though they will be pretty much the same as the Region 2 DVDs. As I mentioned in another post, the Season 3, Region 1 DVDs are potentially going to have specially recorded pieces of character dialogue and those are still in the works. My hope is that we'll see both hit shelves next year, but no word yet on either ...
