First of all, hello, I'm new here.

While at Gencon this year, I picked up a prerelease copy of a tabletop role playing game called Now Playing, the premise is that you make a setting based on your favorite TV show, naturally I thought of Futurama.

I'd love some feedback, like suggestions as to things that should be included that I may have overlooked.  Also ,I have a question, were names ever given to some of the more commonly recurring alien races, like Zoidberg's or Kiff's?

If anyone wants to see the finished version when I'm done, I'd be happy to let anyone have a copy who wants one.

Thans for your time.

Welcome to PEEL, Kid Rid, you posted this in the correct topic as what you are dealing with is not directly a Futurama product yet simply your product that needs Futurama coaching.  If anybody else on PEEL tells you that you're not doing something right, make sure they have a "Moderator" under their name, and if they don't then don't worry about it.

As for the alien races, Zoidberg is a Decapodian and I know there was a specie for Kif, I just can't think of it.  Maybe it'll come to me.

And even then be wary. Accept no substitutes! Welcome to PEEL.

Welcome To PEEL!
I think there are the Arachnids from "300 Big Boys", the Amphibions (Kif's Species), and that's all I can think of that hasn't been mentioned.

Of course there are humans, mutants, robots, heads in jars and martians.  What were the Egyptian planet's people called?  You know, from PTR.

The Egyptian Planet's people are The Osirians.
And the Decapodians, from "A Taste Of Freedom"... and every episode that has Zoidberg in it.

Thanks a lot, you guys have already helped a lot.  Sometimes it's easy to overlook details like that.  The DVD's are gonna come in very handy for this, I can already tell.

EDIT: I guess I did post this in the wrong place, sorry again.

*sigh*  I don't know why this thread was moved here.  This isn't a Futurama product it's a Carnivore Games® product, I won't move it back because that would seem silly, but I'd just like to ask other moderators not to move topics just because they're bored, and perhaps read the entire thread before doing so and not just the first two posts  :nono:

The game sounds awesome none the less, and I'm interested in seeing how it pans out.  I'm just curious, can you program planets into this game?   ;)

Not sure I understand what you mean by program.  It's a pen and paper game, so there's no actual programming involved, just writing, but I do plan on doing writeups for a lot of the planets that were featured in the show.

I'm glad some people are interested in this, I think it's gonna be a lot of fun to write, and hopefully even more so to play.

EDIT: I've got an early version of the cover page done, I may redo it before it's all done though.

Cool idea, but the futurama heading looks a bit wierd, looks like it has been blown up too much.

Yeah, I'm not entirely thrilled with that either, that's something I'll probably redo.

Hi,

I'm the author of the Now Playing RPG, and I think this is a great idea for an NP show! I can field questions about the game, and leave the details of the setting to Kid.

I'm a fan of Futurama as well, so I'd love to see this get played. This kind of thing is exactly what Now Playing was meant for!

I agree. I have a question for BradYoungie,  Is there a target release date? I would love to do a Family Guy version (if possible) of NP.

The release date is currently up in the air. I am about a month away from being ready for prepress. Then the distributors take it and gather preorders to decide how many they want. Then I go to print. It could take a bit of time for the distributors to do their thing, so I'm guessing in about 4 months.

However, the book will be released in hardcover under full distribution to gaming and hobby stores, as well as online.

You can download a free demo of Now Playing from the Carnivore Games web site at http://www.carnivoregames.com/

The demo is not of a comedy, but it gives a good idea of the game. Once the game is ready for prepress, I'll be developing another demo that will be a sitcom (inspired by Bewitched). That one is going to be a blast!

Oh, I should have mentioned this: I do have some overrun of the prerelease edition of Now Playing, which was printed for GenCon. They are spiral bound, with full color cover. They are signed and numbered. They are prerelease, which means very little proofreading had been done by then, and only a fraction of the artwork is in it, but the game system is complete as is the core writing.

I'm selling them for $20 a piece (to cover printing costs) if you want them.

If you're interested, email me at brad@carnivoregames.com.

That way, you'll be able to play Futurama when Kid Ridiculous gets the setting worked out.

That's the version I have, and if I may say so, if you're considering picking the game up, grab one of the prerelease copies, the spiral binding is nice and easy to work with, plus you'll be the envy of your group if you're the only one with a special prerealse version.
