Wait, what does this have to do with making a movie? I wear Simpsons shirts, do I piss you off? All I want is for Futurama to be treated with respect and at least have a bit of merchandise, IE: action figures and shirts, not the giant tidal wave of Simpsons stuff.

I know but people are going to like it just because they made a movie out of it. If they never make a movie, I bet other people that dont know futurama are going to give a hoot of keeping it on fox. I said a GUY at school, the guy not the shirt, ok?

If they make a crap movie, no-one would like it. If they made a good movie it would get the respect it deserves.

I think a movie is still good. I don't think it will bring that much more viewers.  Not as much as the simpsons anyways.  I want it to have more publicity, but not as big as the simspons.  but bigger than now.

Also use the edit button, 'tis a wise little button.

A movie would be excellent, a perfect end. Since the show left some things open due to the lack of real last episode, a movie would be perfect.

I don't want a movie, I've been one of the biggest people against one in the other threads.

It will cheapen Futurama, and people already steal my show, now more will.

I think a movie would be great, but I wonder if they could make enough to cover their costs and turn a profit. A full-length animated feature would be pretty costly in my estimation.

I wonder if people unfamiliar with the show would go see a movie based on it. I don't know if the show's fanbase is large enough to make an impact at the box office, though I'm sure many of us would pay to see it several times.

Any thoughts on what a good plot for it would be? All I know is that it better had feature Zap and Kif!  :)

Yeah it would probably dispoint me if the movie was bad in the plot and ending, in the other hand I demand more episodes!

Full-length wouldn't be as costly as you might think.  I mean, Disney's been coming out with a zillion direct-to-video movies, and they're making big profits.

Are you saying they should make a DTV Futurama movie?

:Pauses.  Thinks.:

Hmmm... that actually might be easier for MG and DXC to pitch.

If they do a dtv release, I hope they pack it with extras including a full-length feature on the "making of movie" along with the obligatory commentary.

Disney has already proven that DTV releases can be extremely profitable.  A lot of them (though definently not all) have really good, near-theater quality animation.  DTV releases are way, way cheaper to market than a theatrical movie.  So, Matt and David should probably pitch that to Fox.  Or, even better, the first Futurama movie could be a theatrical release, and the other two could be DTV releases.

It should be like a 2-disc set. The first disc should have the film and 3 audio commentaries. One by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen and the writer.  The second by the cast. And the thrid with the animation director. Also it should be in animorphic widscreen: 1:85.1

The 2nd disc should have an hour long making of featurette. Storyboard to feature comparisons. Deleted scenes. Interviews with the cast and crew. A special effects documentary. The screenplay. The animatic of the entire film. And a sneak peek at the 2nd Futurama direct to video film.

Some direct to video release huh?

i dont think they should make a movie for different reasons, if they released it into the cinema it would be the biggest flop in history out of all the people i know i only know of one other person who really likes Futurama nearly every one else thinks is boring. to release it into the cinema it would need loads of people to go and see it. i could imagine that out of the whole of my area there would be 10 people that would like to see it, so overall it would be one big embarrassing disaster. if it went to video then it might work though...

Direct to video would be ok. Or air it on TV a few times and then release it to DVD/VHS. It could be profitable that way.

You say that like Futurama's the most un - popular show ever on TV, it's really not that bad. I know for sure it's not as popular as The simpsons, but it still has a fairly decent fanbase, like all the hype (In the UK anyway) that was over the Futurama game.

A full length animated film wouldn't be that expensive. DXC has stated in a few recent interviews that he thinks that's why Futurama has a chance as a movie. Futurama is an expensive prime-time animation to produce, with all the 3D effects and good writing, but as feature films go it would be quite cheap, they don't have to pay actors millions of dollars and make sets and blow stuff up for real. No stunt men there, and it wouldn't be all CG like the more recent animated films like Shrek and Toy Story. That's why Futurama has a chance as a movie, because the company financing it wouldn't have to spend as much money as a on live action film.

Given that Futurama has a relatively small fan base (despite the fact that I would personally find it quite hard to locate someone who DOESN'T like it) the movie is up against a difficult problem. For wide appeal, they'd have to basically re-explain the premise, and introduce us to the characters all over again. Die-hard fans would be irritated by this covering of old ground, while newcomers STILL may not get it. A dtv movie looks like the most likely option, and seriously, who among us would turn down the chance to see that?

It was being discussed in the "movie ideas!" thread about that, Idle Hands. Some PEELers were coming up with ways that the story can be explained to new comers yet still not having to upset the fans.

I'd like to see any kind of movie.  dtv is fine- I'm sure they'll have tons of extras in that, but a regular movie would rule too.

This is a rather silly thread for this site.

IF the quality of the series is retained, then not only should they make one movie - as David X wants to do - they should make three or more movies - as Matt Groening wants to do.

They should also continue to make more seasons, if possible.

Why would a fan of the show want anything less?  (That's a rhetorical question.  The only correct response is, "they wouldn't want anything less." )

I have two reactions to the argument that Futurama becoming really popular and t-shirts running rampant would be bad things:

What!?!?

and

What!?!?

People cannot "steal your show" - or any belief you hold sacred, for that matter - unless you allow them to.  Stand up for yourself, man!

Yeah, I don't get it.  What's the problem with Futurama being popular?  If it were as popular as The Simpsons, it wouldn't be cancelled right?  And personally I LIKE the idea of other people enjoying this great show.  In the days of Adult Swim reruns I can't seem to go one school day without one of my friends quoting Futurama to me, and that's certainly better then when no one ever seemed to see it.

Anyways, I like the idea of a movie.  Its risky, but I think it could work, and I hope it ends up on in theaters simply because it would be SOOOO cool to watch Futrama on the big screen.  I'd buy tickets for the first showing, or at least for the first day.  (for the record, I wouldn't be so enthusiastic about a Simpsons movie).
