For anyone in the US who is reading this board....

Have any of you found "Futurama: The Game" at retail yet?  I know that EBGames.com had an August 13 (yesterday) ship date for the product, and as of yesterday, my local GameStop was showing the title as being "active" in their system.  However, I haven't yet found a retail store local to me that has the game in-stock as of today.

So, who in the U.S. has been able to pick this game up at retail, and where did you get it?

P.S. - Target has the released-this-week "Futurama: Volume Two" DVD set on sale for an incredibly low price of $24.99.

OK - I guess that the 13th was simply the Shipping Date, with arrival in stores expected on the 15th then.  Guess I've got some plans for tomorrow!

Well, I don't think I completely agree with that statement.  I'm sure there has been a game or two in my personal history of gaming that I've picked up on a release day other than Friday ("DOA - Xtreme Beach Volleyball", for example).

I guess that my complaint is with the folks at the store, who check their computer system and tell me that it should be in their store on a specific day - and then, it's not.  I would think that they'd have a better system than that.

For some reason, Amazon.com still has the Gamecube version as being released tomorrow: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000095ZH8/qid=1060892337/sr=8-8/ref=sr_8_8/102-7161321-1799312?v=glance&s=videogames&n=507846

I see that.  However, if you check out the Vivendi Universal site (at http://www.vugames.com/product.do?gamePlatformId=436  ), they only list PS2 and Xbox as platforms.

There isn't a GameCube version. the curiousness is that Amazon, which is usually trustworthy, is entirely wrong.

Thanks, SQFreak!  I've really gone on a Futurama binge in the last week or so, so I'm glad I found the place to talk about it!!

I picked mine up yesterday (Friday), but I was also told at a GameStop store in my area that certain GameStop stores - specifically, those designated as "Electronics Boutique competitors" - had received their copies on Wednesday the 13th.  So, I had to schlepp myself out to one of those stores, because the GameStop that I had pre-ordered from had still not received any copies of the game as of Friday afternoon.

That's certainly something that I'll be keeping in mind, the next time that it comes to considering whether or not I want pre-order a title from a GameStop store.

The only place I did find it was at amazon.com

I went to my local Best Buy and it wasn't in the computer at all, so I went to EB, and their shipment wasn't in yet, so I went to GameStop and they had it.

Me: Do you have the Futurama game for XBox?
Salesperson: Yep. Would you like to pick one up? We've got it on demo over there (points to the XBox demo)
Me: Yes, that and an XBox.
Salesperson: And an XBox. Okay, I have to get an XBox out of the back.

So I got an XBox and the game. W00t.

I got mine on Thursday (14th). I was in Kelowna so I went to Orachrd Park's EB right when the mall opened but they hadn't recieved the air shipment, and that's where the new releases come, so the girl that worked there said she would hold a cpy for me when it came in. I went back a few hours later and the girl said they had recieved one copy. I got it took it back to the hotel and started to play it, I was most of the way through the first level when my best friend called me (long-distance) on my cell to tell me about the black out on the east, so I pause the game and went to a regualr channel to watch the news, then my gradmother stepped on the controller cable and pulled my PS2 off the counter and it fell to the floor. After watching the news for a bit I turned the game on and finished the level, svaed the game and went to watch one of the extra features I had unlocked. A screen came up and said that something was wrong and it couldn't be played, so I restarted my PS2 and the game won't load. The PS2 worked fine with other games and DVD's so I looked at the Futurama disc and there I two huge gashes in the disc. I don't know if that happened when the PS2 fell, or it was like that. Anyway, I'm going to a mall tomorrow, now that I'm back home and exchanging it for a new one.

Is the game any good? The graphics on the trailer look like crap, but the plot sounds good, so me conflicted. Anyone give help?

EDIT: I mean for xbox, not PS2.

I purchased the Xbox version.

I have found that every criticism made in the various online reviews that I have read to be basically correct.  That is:
- In-game graphics range from adequate to poor;
- There are occasional clipping problems;
- Collision detection doesn't always work; and
- Character controls are clunky and imprecise.

At the same time, the cutscenes and the storyline for those cutscenes is brilliant!  However, in order to unlock those cutscenes, you have to struggle with awkward controls in a game that is basically easy, which is made somewhat "difficult" only because it is so hard to control.

So, it could be much, much better.  However, I'm still glad that I purchased it, and I really want to play through to the end.
