First bit of info from SD is trickling in and the biggest surprise of them all to me is the following news:
 http://www.action-figure.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=8676&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
Toynami is expecting to announce a new line of Futurama figures produced in their exclusive I-Men format. I think this might be one of the best ideas for Futurama yet. I can see the format of the figures lending itself to be more cheap than what has been produced in the past which will give Toynami the oppurtunity to produce many figures from the Futurama universe. Just imagine all the characters sitting on your shelf in the I-Men format! I will have some pics in the next couple of days but I am sure somebody from here will beat me to the punch on this one. I can't wait to see what these are going to look like.

I'm not a huge fan of the I-Men type figures, but the fact that they are making Futurama ones is great.  If they look nice I'll buy them.  Hopefully, Toynami will come out with more Futuarama stuff.

I actually like the look of them and think they are pretty fun looking. I have never purchased any but have always admired the different characters being produced in this format. Of course some lines are better than others as the Simpsons blocko's was a disaster. But Toynami is one of the instigators I think of this type of figure so I would expect the Futurama figures to be extrememly well done and cool.
Oh, and you know I will be picking these up.  ;)

I think they won't be able to pull off good looking futurama figure in this style. They're too chunky.

It' great news that they're producing them, and that new Futurama merchandise isn't dead. But I must admit, I'm not too keen on the I-Men style  :)

Same here, it's good that new Futurama merchandise is on the horizon, but it's a shame that they look like being so damn ugly!

Actually I think that Greonings characters should translate pretty well to this 'I-Men' style. They'll look quite stylised, but I think it could work very well.
What sort of stage of development are these toys at? When can we expect a release?

More detailed information should start trickling in either this evening or tomorrow for sure when the doors are officially open at SD. I am sure there sill be some type of mock up - either artwork or an actual prototype but my money is on artwork only.
And I agree with you - these could be really cool little figures.

Yeah, and Fry just wouldn't be Fry without his little beer belly  :hmpf:

Indeed, Fry wouldn't be Fry without his beer belly, but Bender wouldn't be Bender without his cylinderical body.  He probably wouldn't translate well to a rectangular body.

I haven't the faintest idea what I-Men are. Are they huge blocky things or something?

I just typed I-Men into Google image search and got frigging naked men!   :puke:

Does anyone konw how much I Men figures usually cost? Do you think that this line of figures will all be sold seperately, or together in a collect-o-pack style box?

I love that. A picture of a No Photography sign.

Anyway, are they going to be painted at all? Because painted they could be really good!

I'm sure they'll be painted, the figures in the photo are just proto-types to give you an idea of where the project is headed. Does anybody know the answer to my previous question?

I think they're cool looking, but it strikes me as kind of pointless. I'm no toymaking genius, but how much harder is it to sculpt a reasonably accurate body?

At least the robots look ok. I'll probably buy some of the minor characters.

These will be released Spring of 2004 and will come two to a pack. Probably bad news for everyone that only wants the robots is that the robots will be packaged with a human character so if you want just the robots you will end up getting most of the set.
I still like them and am anticipating them being released. Doing more accurately sculpted bodies kind of defeats the purpose of doing them in the I-Men format. Otherwise they would be regular action figures and everyone would be complaining that they were too small.

Wait a minute how small are these I-Men? I hope they're bigger than the rocket USA die casts.

They are probably about the same height or maybe a little bit bigger than the RocketUSA figures. I think they range in height of 2"-2 1/2". They will have some articulation and as far as I know with the I-Men (although I don't know what good the feature is) they can be taken apart.
