In WHSmith today I saw a sign next to the Season 3 DVD saying you can pre-order Season 4 for 29.99. I ordered a copy on Amazon months ago. But what with all the recent postal strikes, 35.00 price and 27th Nov delivery estimate, I have now cancelled my Amazon order and I plan on simply walking down the road on release day to pick up my copy. This way I get it cheaper and I know i'll have it on day one.
I just thought that some of the other UK buyers may want to do the same. We all hate hearing your moaning when it doesn't turn up on release day.  smile

M Jackson, my understanding was that Amazon are selling the Season 4 boxset for 27.99, not 35.00.

Yeah but I ordered it as soon as it became available when the price was 35.00. My order wasn't changed when the price went down. Anyway, even if the price did go down, I still prefer to do it this way. I don't have to hope that it will arrive on release day, I KNOW it will.

Plus you can choose your own copy, so that if it's damaged, you can ask for a different one there and then. I've always bought the Futurama DVD sets the morning they came out, and I'll be doing the same with this one  smile

On the flip side PEEL/CGEF miss out on some Euro's.

Of course I don't have any choice. I still haven't found any shops in this country who sell the previous 3 seasons. I doubt I'll ever see season 4 in free trade either, so online shopping is my only option.

Out of all those times I've ordered at Amazon.co.uk or even Amazon.com not a single item have been damaged even in the slightest. They're quite good at this stuff, it's what they do for a living.  wink

All my Amazon stuff has arrived in excellent condition, with the one exception being a cracked CD case. Although I had to pay for the postage back, Amazon sent me a new CD (and credited my card with the postage cost I'd paid).

They have also become very competitative price wise for games, as a side note.

Just checked the FOX UK site and the Season 4 DVD trailer is finally out. Now it's got me anticipating the release even more!

Interesting note, the boxset looks to be purple rather than black in the trailer.

Thanx for the heads up, I've just watched it, and it's an awesome trailer. Not quite as good as the Season 3 trailer though, in my opinion. Pity it's not on the set. And about it being purple, I'm not so sure about this. This trailer went through the BBFC months ago, but the new advert for it in Emprire magazine pictured black box, and because that's a lot newer, I'd go with that for probabality  smile

It might be purple to prevent it from blending with the background?

Anyway, good find - and thanks for sneakily providing the link as a hyperlink to allow downloads.  big grin

Yeah, could be, but that didn't stop them picturing a black box in Empire magazine on a black backround. All that's requires is some light round the edges.

I wonder if it just looks black as a result of the light that is illuminating the box in the trailer. I was initially a little disappointed with the box design, but it's starting to grow on me. I think I'd actually prefer black over purple.

also ive converted the video (mov.) into a DivX file so you can have it full screen but cause of having a 56k modem it will takes ages to upload, frown  but i will upload it ASAP.

Very awesome, and insightful review. Nice find  cool A bit picky, but I guess that was the reviewers job. Although they failed to mention the disappointment of there not being a Season 4 trailer on the final set.

long winded review, dont what the  problem with picture quality is, my s3 dvd is perfect, the commentaries are the same level of entertainment i'd say to simpsons.
and as for worrying about how much they can cram onto 1 disc, well s3 disc 1 has 6 episodes with commentaries, storyboards, lots of deleted scenes
a table read and few other minutes worth of material.
they probably could have fit s4 onto 3 discs

Wow, that guy's a crap reviewer.  I'm sure the vast majority of people, when they read a DVD review, don't want to know the in-depth technical minutae of the disc, but rather whether the CONTENTS of the disc are any good.

They probably could have fitted season 4 onto three discs, but that would be bad economics. (at least from FOX's POV.  wink)

Do you think they could have fitted a 5.1 soundtrack.  The simpsons gets one, but I think futurama is more suited to 5.1

I don't know. I've yet to find a movie that's particularly suited to 5.1 effects. Largely because movies are made with the purpose of swopping between several viewpoints very quickly, so it becomes disconcerting/unrealistic to have the track constantly moving about.

The only thing I've found 5.1 good for is having a plane fly in from behind you.  tongue

Fred, I suspect DVD Debate is more of a "techy" site that examines DVD quality (since it's a given the content will be brilliant).  wink

What annoys me is his harping on about NTSC/PAL problems - hey, it's not our fault they use an inferior standard!  tongue

I've got all 3 (soon to be 4) Futurama boxsets on region 2 PAL DVDs. I have no idea what anyone could complain about with the sound/picture quality! It's almost flawless! Sure the sound may not have a groundshaking DTS kick to it. But this is a TV show. The actual quality of the sound is perfect. There's no hiss or glitches, it's all digitaly perfect. Same with the great picture.

I've ordered it off Amazon for the pricely sum of 27.99 . I'm 15, bought the first DVD set when i was 13 or 14, and paid for them all myself. I do a paper-round to pay for my stuff, 3+ hours a week for 12-20.

However i am quitting in a few weeks due to school work and exams.

but then again i've found it to be the case that season 1 is the same as season 2
the general price is 40, so while you could get a 13 episode season for that price you can if you look around some shops, get a 22 episode season, (which is generally better episode quality) for 30, its really not right

Well, the guy have the FOX crappy treatment down pat, and he seems like a genuine fan. I hope it's true what CK is saying, that it's site policy to be this nitpicky about picture quality and sound, because this really is anal and tedious. Notice how he use the words "in all fairness" over and over. You get the impression there are grave errors on this set, but it's somewhat balanced by the goodness of the episodes.

Neither of the first 3 sets I bought had any problems with the audio or picture. The only really noticable fault was a sync arror in the "The Route Of All Evil" audio commentary near the end. Other than that, flawless.

Less than 2 weeks to go.

Anybody who doesn't already own the first three boxsets (what is wrong with you!?), should check out HMV now. Theres a huge sale on and each Futurama boxset is only 22! At the LOndon Picaddily store there are literally piles and piles of Futurama boxsets! I assume that's becasue they keep ordering more in, not because they wont sell. I noticed 5 people buying a Futurama DVD while I was there, one women got all three.
