I think it must be 4 discs, as season 2 was 19 episodes (just one more than season 4) and was on four discs.

Yeah I agree, I think it'll be 4 discs as well. Probably 5 eps on the first 2 discs, and 4 eps on the last 2  :)

Since david cohen is involved this time maybe the're doing something really beefy with the extras. If so i suspect that there'll be five episodes on the first three discs, and three on disc four which would also contain loads of features. I hope Davids getting everyone together to do a proper lengthy retrospective documentry.
They should also include something about all the awards futurama won, and maybe a merchandise list and DVD rom features. The best thing would be teaser info on the Movie.

Good question.  The first S3 disc managed to have a shit load of extras (table read, DXC intro) on it despite containing 6 episodes.

However the world of economics dictates that 18 episodes over three discs is too good a bargain.  Expect to see a four disc set.

I hope they do put the effort in like you guys are guessing they could even add some audio tracks of the great songs they have had in the series. I heard the audio commenteries have already been recorded.

I'd like to see a video (not just audio) table read. It sounds like a lot of fun.

If I had my way, there would be annotated scripts (like the one for 1ACV01), storyboards, animatics and table reads (visual as well) for every episode. As well as an introduction by either DXC/MG for each episode.

I know this isn't realistic as it some things (such as the table read) they wouldn't have. But I can dream can't I?

I wouldn't bother pre ordering it now...wait until it shows up on Amazon - you're more likely to get a better deal.

Edit: Do they actually video the table reads? I know there's an bit from one in the S1 Making Of featurette, but I thought that was done specially...

They probably don't. The small featurette thing and the audio track of the Tale Of Two Santes table read was done specifically.

But it would still be cool if they did videotape one. Judging from the ATOTS table read we're missing out on a lot of funny faces and gestures.

September would be nice, but believe me when I say there's no way it'll happen -- it's merely wishful thinking. As far as the comment I made earlier about David X. Cohen's involvement in the Season 4 DVDs, as far as I know, it's only in the putting together of the menus and not so much in the extra features department (besides the commentaries, that is). So far (and it's still early yet, so the following is by no means set in stone), we can pretty much expect the same extra features as we saw for Season 3 ... more 3D models, International Clips, Deleted Scenes, Storyboards for one of the episodes, Commentaries on all the episodes, New Character Sketches, possibly another table read (only audio again, I'm afraid) and some various other things (one possibily being a DVD-ROM feature having to do with the petition sent to Fox and Matt in hopes of saving the show). I whole-heartedly agree about the need for a better/longer "Making of" documentary/featurette, but, sadly, I don't think it's going to happen. I also agree with Otis P about the stills of all of the Futurama merchandise (I personally would also love to see stills of all the made-up products in the show, too). Oh, and the idea of featuring all of the original songs written for the show during it's run would be great, too. Add all those to the pile of great ideas that will probably not see the light of day. Sorry to be a Captain Bringdown about this stuff, but this is how Season 4's set is shaing up so far.

Thanx for the info, it's really cool. It's a pity that as far as you know, David X. Cohen is only involved in the menus, but still, I guess that's better than nothing at all. IMO the menus have got better with every set, and hopefully the trend will continue. The DVD-ROM feature about the petition and Matts hopes for saving the show sound really cool and interesting, I really hope that's included

I have it indirectly confirmed that the release is 2003-09-03.

I mailed discshop (a swedish dvd retailer) and asked about it and they said that according to the movie-company that was the release date. I have the mail if you want me to post it here.

Fox is the company which puts at the end of its C&D letters that it promises to continue to provide quality entertainment.

In other words, don't consider Fox to be that reliable.

This is FOX, we're talking about. They can't even decide on a definete release of season 2 in America.

Besides Twentieth Century Fox (the movie-company) doesn't handle the DVD's, it's FOX Home Entertainment.

I'm sure we have to wait at least 'til the last episode have aired on FOX, before we'll see the 4th season on DVD. My bet is still December, maybe January.

were i have pre-ordered the DVD (dvdon.com), they have never started taken pre-orders for any futurama or any dvd at all, before they are sure when it`s going to be realesed. So i belive that the release date is september 3, 2003. The season 3 dvd was released on dvdon.com on may 28`th, 4 days before the rest of europe.

In my e-mail i got it doesn't say "Twentieth Century Fox" but it said "filmbolaget". That roughly translates to "the movie company". I just wrote Twentieth... because i assumed that, and "the movie company" is not a really good translation.

Who is futufan anyways, and how can we trust him?

But  you know what you really boost the dvd sales? If FOX released the DVD before the ending had aired on TV.

Perhaps because he knew all of the extras for seasons 2 and 3 months before they were released and the fact that he is connected to the industry in some way?

Never going to happen. Ever. Because of advertising revenue, contracts with other channels (like Sky) etc.

To Zimbabwe,
Don't be sooooo suspicious! futufan has never been wrong before, everything he said about the previous DVD releases was true. Think about it, what could he possibly have to gain by lying to us?

Bad news, anyone! Let's just put it this way ... authoring the DVDs takes at least 3 months to do so, given that and the fact that the menu screens are still in the early phases of being designed (that alone could take up to 3 months in itself), a September release date is pretty much mission: impossible.

A september release date would be suicide anyway, because a good proportion of Christmas sales would be lost.

This is how it was (and mind u isnt related really to the season 4 DVD set)
When Fox played production season3, they only played about 2/3 of it, so the rest of it went into season4, in which they only played a few of the production season4 episodes.

So season5 (according to fox airing) is actual season4 episodes.

that answers what you were asking right?
