On the dvd commentaries they say they get 24 min of animation but only use 22 due to syndication or some such nonsense and if this is true how come they dont include that in the dvds that would be awesome 2 min extra footage per episode that works out to ....um.... well lots of extra minutes. my apologies if this was brought up already i havent read all of the thread.

They are included, they're called deleted scenes. Although they're entertaining, they shouldn't be included in the main episodes for the DVD's as they'd weaken the episode, there's a reason why they were cut.

Not all of the additional stuff is included as deleted scenes. They spoke about that in the commentary for "I, Roommate".

Fair enough, but they couldn't produce it from scratch just for the DVD's.

Remember, Season 1 was released in January 2002.

I've been saying all along that S4 would probably be released early in 2004, and since futufan agrees, I'm going to stick with that.

Ok then i'm with Futufan too. Although on this occassion I hope he's wrong and the release is earlier. No, i'm just lying to myself, I know that he's never been wrong before, whatever he says can be taken as gospel (DVD wise).

This is what www.gotfuturama.com  says:

EU Season 4 DVD set release date

We've been holding back news on the Season 4 DVD set (Europe) release date lacking credible sources. Now FOX HE has spoken and touts with November 17th. This is of course subject to change. The set will include the final 18 episodes of the Futurama cycle together with commentary for each of them and hopefully some neat extras. The set is again done as contract work by the same people who did a great job on Season 1 to 3 and executive producer Cohen is said to be helping with some of the things for a first time.

Believe me, I would looooooove to have the Season 4 DVD's under my Christmas tree this year as much as you guys would, but there's just so much work left to do on them still. Fox is pushing to get them out by the November date, but, like I said before, I doubt it'll happen.

yeah fox is pushing so they can squeeze every last dime from a show they showed no respect (BASTARDS) but i would rather wait a little longer and have the great commentaries from DXC bill john greg and the rest rather than let fox push out an inferior product like they always try to do (BASTARDS in case i havent mentioned it before)

Fox Home Entertainment (the DVD people) never put out inferior products! They are nearly always loaded with extras. I have a lot of respect for Fox HE, they do a great job. However the Fox Network can go F*** themselves!!!

yeah but arent fox pressuring matt to get his dvds out faster and the delay is usually the dvd commentary. (sure FOX HE release it but they are still owned by satan and ithink a lot of the content we get are thanls to the likes of mattg, dxc and the likes)

The Season 4 commentaries were recorded I believe at the same time as the Season 3 commentaries, or soon after. So commentaries should not be a reason for delays.

I think that the work being done involves designing the menus and arranging the bonus material. As Kazzahdrane said the commentaries have already been done. I heard that the bonus commentary is for Jurassic Bark and it focuses on the writing process.

There's no way in hell they'll announce a release date before they're absolutely sure that all the episodes will be shown on FOX by that date (possibly Sky as well). Fox TV and TCFHE are still the same company after all.

The menus are really hard to produce and it could take some time, especially if they're as complex as the S3 menus.

The Season 3 menus are really good, but they're not that complex to make. It's not real animation, it's done in the same kind of way South Park is animated but using a computer which also allows them to make the movement smoother and use warps and stuff.

^ But the S3 menus also took parts of animation from the episodes and intergrated them into the menus as well...

The real reasons for delays are:

-FOX TV : they don't wan't you to own the DVD before every single episode have been broadcasted.

-Season 3 DVD set : they want to sell as much as possible before season 4 comes out. If s4 is available to soon, they will lose precious money, it's all about marketing.

I must admit I don't understand this fascination with Box Art. What really concerns me is WHEN it's coming and what cool extras it will have. That Jurassic Bark extra commentary sounds great. I've always wanted to knnow more about the writing process, which seems so exotic compared to the English method, where enitre serieses are written by one or two people.

Put it this way, reverend.  If there's no new box art, then the set isn't coming out anytime soon.

That's a day after the last episode should air on Sky. Seems kinda unlikely. Here's hoping though.

look, stop getting your hopes up. They won't be releasing the next season only 3 months after the last. The episodes didn't even go through the BBFC yet. November is the very earliest and next year seems not too unlikely, either.
