We should make an online petition requesting DXC release the tapes of his auditioning for Bender.

I voted for David Cohen, cause not only is he really nerdy and really funny, but without him there would be practically no commentary, he talks for at least 80% of it, and it's great.

"I just came here to watch guys break their arms patting themselves on the back" or something close to that by Billy West in the Zapp voice, for the commentary for War is the H-Word (I think) really cracked me up a lot.

If the petition include a demand for Ken Keeler to release a copy of the tape where he sing "The Elves Are Back To Work", I'll sign it in a heart-beat.

Cohen: "So in a desperate attempt I auditioned for the part of Bender, because people used to say to me (weird voice) "hey Dave, you sound like a robot"(/WV). And when I came in I forgot how to speak my own voice, it just sounded weird and..."
Groening: "You're doing it really well right now."

Eric Kaplan is one of the funniest commentators and by Season 4 has really loosened up with the commentaries. Here's a favourite quote of mine from the Jurrasic Bark commentary:

Though it's the way he says it that's the killer.  :laff:

What? No mentions of Lou Morton? This guy has some of the funniest lines in the commentaries.

After the "hose" joke in Brannigan Begin Again
Morton-"Lou Morton, writer!"

during a closeup of Hermes with a brain slug attached to his skull in Raging Bender
Cohen: "Hey remember the Brain Slug Lou?"
Morton: "Yeah, that's it"

Oh yeah, Lew Morton. I actually have a favourite Morton line, from Mother's Day:

Morton: (to Brian Sheesley) I was trying to remember how you covered the nudity and then I realised that you didn't.

I realy like Morton, Cohen and Billy but..
I'll go with John DiMaggio simply because hearing him laugh makes me laugh. And the best line..

I think that that was one of first times that I laughed out loud at an audio commentary. Is that quote from "Space Pilot 3000"?

Nope. If I recall correctly, they talked about David Cohen trying out for Bender right after he said his first line while waiting in line for the suicide booth in "Space Pilot 3000".

No, I'm right. In "Space Pilot 3000", John DiMaggio talks about how he used his Bender voice to audition for the Prof, and his URL voice to audition for Bender, and then they comment on how hard it was for them to decide what the robot should sound like. But they don't actually address David Cohen's audition until the second commentary.

Sure is a lot of repetition in the audio commentaries, no? I mean, I realize they're assuming you're only watching a handfull of them, or maybe only the ones for your favorite episodes, but it can be a little mind-numbing for those of us who watch them all, right? To wit:

Everything I Need To Know, I Learned (Over And Bloody Over Again) From Futurama Audio Commentaries - An Incomplete List

1. Frank Welker is a genius (and was The Original Voice of Freddy On Scoobie Doo)
2. Buster Keaton once said "The audience loves a slow thinker."
3. Dave Herman's job is harder than Billy West's job (because you know why).
4. John DiMaggio performed at The Apollo. He was not booed off stage.
5. Every single voice actor in Hollywood can do a passable Dr. Zoidberg
6. Billy West thinks it's funny when John DiMaggio just makes up "Bender noises"
7. John DiMaggio thinks it's funny when Billy West just makes up "Professor noises"
8. Fry's voice is Billy West at 25.
9. Bender was supposed to be Ship's Cook
10. Christopher Tyng does a good job.
11. Korea is where Animation Happens™!
12. FOX sucks.

Any others?

15: You can't rewind when you're doing a DVD commentary.
16: David X. Cohen thinks it's amazing that two different TV characters (Dwayne and Fat Albert) have "Hey hey hey" as a catchphrase, albeit pronounced differently.
17: Matt Groening's favourite sound effects include squeaky shoes, squeaky pens and tentacle massages.
18: Matt Groening invented the concept of people in cages on wheels and people on conveyor belts having things done to them.
19: Billy West's father was a dancer who died dancing on the end of a rope.
20: Fry is stupid.

26. Billy West once threw up all over a recording studio while pretending to throw up on a show.

29. Tom Kenny is the funniest man in pants.

I usually laugh any time someone lowers or changes their voice for no reason, which happens in the Season 3 DVD set quite often.

Examples include Where the Buggalo Roam...
John DiMaggio: Hi, I'm John Dimaggio, and I play a bunch of...Benders and...stuff.
Billy West: (deep) Eeeyeer, do that again!

...and The Day The Earth Stood Stupid.
Fry: And it's all thanks to the books at my local library.
John DiMaggio: (weird, goofy voice) Aww, Fry...

31. None of the writers can remember the inspiration for the episodes they write.
32. DXC visits the newsgroup, but doesn't mention visiting PEEL (at least not in seasons 1,2 and 3)
33. They don't know why That's Lobstertainment was voted the worst episode.
34. Any commentary without one of the voice actors isn't funny.
35. We still don't know what an Exective Producer does (outside of doing DVD commentaries)

I agree, its Billy West and John DiMaggio that make the commentaries so funny. I like the way that Billy West finds a new way of introducing himself for nearly every commentary. However, when he does different voices it sometimes gets a bit confusing!
