Heard it on *very* good authority today (as someone who works "in the biz" - god, that makes me sound like such a twat, doesn't it?  ;)) that the Season 3 DVDs will be out in the UK in April or May, most likely the former!  :D

Hopefully I'll have official confirmation of content and an exact date soon, but since there was a gap of a whole year between S1 and S2 coming out, this is bloody good news!

Now all I have to do is persuade Fox to send me a boxset...

Thanks a lot for the info. Pity my exams start in May, won't get any revision done if I buy the box set! Exact date would be much appreciated :-D

EDIT: There was 9 months between Season 1 and 2 being released. Seemed like years though, 9 months meant I know all 13 eps in Season 1 off by heart   :D

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! that's GREAT!!  :D Thankyou for the news payndz  :) Although I expect we can add a couple of months onto that date, just like with Season Two. But it's still great news!  :D

Yes! Woo!
I'm so glad to hear that, and it's nice and quick. I know it'll probably get delayed, but it's a good sign that it's been announced!

And at least i (personally feel) that you're trustworthy enough, i hate these newbies that come, say it, say they can't say who and leave.

Which would make it July 2003.  Now who was it guessed that July 2003 would be the release date?  :D

Wooo, that is good news. Finally to see "Parasites Lost" and "Luck Of The Fryish" in the quality they deserve, and not some crappy MPEG-version.

I'm sure they'll get it out by April, if they say so. Come on, give FOX some credit guys. Ah-ha ah-ha ah-ha-ha-ha, I kill myself.

I dunno, it seems too good to be true.  April is just around the corner, and there's no information at all out on the net or anything.  Just seems way too soon.

Also, I'm getting pissed off... I want R1 DVDs, not R2... And the US might not get S3 R1 DVDs for a while considering S2 doesn't even have a release date   :hmpf:

If that's true, that's great news. You know you'll have to come back with proof someday soon, though! We always demand the proof...
Nah, I'm kidding, I believe you...

Hey, that's great news if it's true! I got Season 2 for Christmas, and I'm still working my way through them (just watching the extras, episode commentaries and French versions), so it looks like I could be getting Season 3 for my birthday. Great!   :D

Seems too good to be true. it's fantastic news, but I agree with Jon, it's way too soon. Especially for the US.

Along with the commentaries, you can expect more of the same (tons of deleted scenes, a storyboard, an animatic, international clips) and a couple of new, cool things (to be revealed later). You can be sure that, as far as extra features go, this set will be the best yet.

Apologies if you actually know the above to be true, but I could have said the same things and i know nothing about the season 3 dvd. It will obviously have the features of the previous two box sets, and as it has the most episodes of any Futurama season it is likely to have more special features than ever before. By "new, cool things," i am assuming that one will be the Alien Alphabet 2, displayed in the same bland way as AA1 was on the season 2 DVDs. Hopefully they will continue to have nice looking animated menus.

Kazzahdrane, don't dismiss what futufan says.  As I recall, he and payndz actually know the score as regards FOX's Futurama DVDs.

Yup I agree. futufan got a lot of negative responses from the information on the last dvd but it did all turn out to be true.

When Futufan posted the season 2 dvd info, it had already been posted on the Region 2 Project website. But anyway, I do of course believe him. Some more details would be nice, a more specific date would be even better!

I'm interested in the menus and how many discs there are going to be. Can 22 episodes be comfortably split between 4 discs including extra features?

I just checked my season 2 box. On the DVD's they put between 4,5 and 6 GB.

I thought that on a single sided, single layered DVD there is 4,7 GB. So they also use double layered ones.

I 'm not sure if they could put 22 episodes on 4 DVD's with the extra's.

Some one else do the math, I 'm not good at this.

I wasn't really thinking of GB capacity I was thinking of how much blurb they could fit on the back of the boxes  :D

About 8 hours of video (22 episodes worth) will easily fit on 4 dvds.  You might want to consider that many single disk movies with extras are 3 hours long.  Extra audio is small -- the commentaries for all the episodes in one season will take up less storage capacity than one video.  It will probably be pushing it, though; even in season 2 they didn't go over 5 episodes per dvd.  I would expect the next set to be 5 dvds long.

Season two of the Simpsons has 22 episodes, and it fits on 4 DVDs.

Actually - it is good news for us in the US.

The hard part of putting together a DVD set is doing the digital transfers, assembling the extras, authoring the menus, etc.  That's been done for Season 2 and (if the first post is correct) Season 3 will ready in a month or two, so if the R1 Season 1 set does really well (I know I'll have mine first day!) Seasons 2 and 3 might be released over a much shorter time frame here than they have been overseas.

Buffy and Farscape seasons have only been about 4 months apart and they released all 7 seasons of Star Trek A New Generation during 2002.

Theoretically - again, if the set does well here - we could see a simultaneous R1/R2 release of Season 4.

Latest update - not *directly* from Fox, but from the guy who has my old job after *he* asked them (and if you know what my old job was, you'll also know that I'm reasonably reliable about matters DVD-related  ;) )

Anyway, it's now apparently early May for the Season 3 release. I'm still trying to find out if they're going to include the whole 3ACV run in the set (which would mean 'The Route Of All Evil' would actually appear on DVD in the UK *before* getting a TV airing!) or not.

This is still all subject to change, but since Fox have been asking if we're interested in doing interviews (guh!) then things are definitely in motion for the DVDs. Good news, everyone!

I doubt TROAE would be on the DVD before airing in the UK. Good news nonetheless!

They aren't (can't) change the way the DVDs are done, they wouldn't switch from Production to Air orders, and i think FOX want to get this out quite quick.

Not neccessarily; Sky have suggested April as a start date for McSeason 5, TROAE is 3rd episode in the McSeason (I think), so it's possible for it to air before the 3rd season DVDs are released, even if the release date is May.

BTW, regarding interviews I've been plugging to get David X Cohen. Aside from asking him what he thinks of my website, since I know from the commentaries that he's seen it  ;) does anyone have any questions they're dying to ask, should I be lucky enough to get him?

Nothing too spectacular, but four episodes have been passed at the BBFC, with commentary.

What about the Spanish and German versions of The Route Of All Evil? As far as I know, the German translator will start working on S05 this summer, so I think either the translator was instructed to translate this one episode already, or there will be no German version for it on the DVD (which I don't expect). Or the whole episode will be missing.

You guys have access to Davd X. Cohen? Cool. Ask him what he thinks about Futurama's Adult Swim success. And also, what will happen first: my death, or when FOX finally releases US Futurama DVDs.
