Good News Everyone ... I have heard (from a very reliable source) that the American, Region 1 version of the Futurama Season 1 DVD set now has a tentative release date of March 2003. As far as I know, the set is going to be exactly the same as the PAL version (with episodes 1-13) that's been out since January. Let's all cross our fingers and hope that this comes to be.  :)

Could you at least tell what sort of source your "very reliable source" is? Like, FOXHome employee, DVD press factory, comic book guy?

There have been claims for releases before and I don't want to resort to faith when it comes to these things.

Though the date is still tentative, this is the real deal ... brush it off as a rumour for now, but come March 2003 when you're drooling all over it, remember that you heard it here first.

I heard a rumor that the R1 DVDs will cost 3 bucks and will be made of candy.

I said it on the Internet, it must be true.

Boy, the sarcasm runs thick and deep in the Planet Express Employee Lounge. I can't give you my sources, but I will say this ... when the Season 2 DVDs come out in November, you'll see that [[[ --- SPOILER ALERT --- ]]] the Special Features screens are based on "Bender Vision", the Scene Selection screens are based on the Head Museum and the DVDs are NOT made out of candy.

Excuse us if we're a bit sceptical about unsubstantiated rumors. We've had so many of them come through here, and we've been disappointed an equal amount of times, it's hard not to become cynical and sarcastic.

But if it's true, horray for our region 1 dwelling colleagues.

Okay.  We'll believe your "source" if that turns out to be true.

Even if his 'source' doesn't turn out to be true, you've got to give him credit for the ideas, they're really cool

Bender: "What do you say when someone gives you something?"
Orphan: "'BOUT TIME!"

Ah, wishful thinking, I guess....but if FutuFan is correct, I smell a ticker-tape parade for his giving us this good information. If he's lying, then it's death for him.

What, exactly, does a ticker-tape parade smell like?  :) By the way, thanks for the compliment Otis P ... Seriously, though, on November 11, the truth shall set me free. Until then, I've already said too much.

To quote mArc's review on CGEF:
"The scene selection is based on a nice looking Head Museum shot and the special feature selection uses an original Bender-Vision look."

You were correct all those weeks ago.  56 credibility points to Futufan.

The parade is Evan's job.   :p

I like to assign random points values to things and pass them out.  On this board I've done that with "man points," "nerd points," and "mad-scientist points."
There are two advantages to doing it that way:
1) I don't have to do anything harder then making up a number.
2) When people complain I can tell them that the points are arbitrary anyway.  :p

Well then I feel priviledged just to have received them at all. I will display my 56 points proudly and will tell everyone I meet of them. Then, at the end of the day, I shall place my 56 points on my refrigerator (with, of course, the Futurama magnet of my choice) for all to admire.   :)

You Americans think you've got it bad because you're the last to get a DVD release? You should try living in Australia, we get everything months after you guys (except international releases like LOTR and Star Wars). Hell...Half of the time, films are still in release in theatres here when they're being released in DVD over there.

Does anyone have an idea why they didn't release it here in the beginning anyway. This sucks. Im forced to wait until sundays for my favorite show when everyone in Europe can just pop in a disc and press a button and watch the professor send Fry Leela and Bender on some suicidial (but funny) delivery.

Something to do with FOX, syndication rights and a big wad of money.

Unconfirmed rumour have it, that a DVD could be out spring 2003. Ask Futufan for more info. Besides you guys have the new season, so the perks are evenly distributed. Just the Aussies who miss out on everything.

Edit: Crap.  There was supposed to be a voice message to mock Ben here.  But I ran out of webspace.  I'll put it up when I find somewhere else or free some space.

Edit: On second thought . . . . forget it.  It's not nearly funny enough to justify the effort.  It's the thought that counts.  :p
