I need to pick up a Blu-ray copy. Still got the iTunes Web HD downloads on the PC but it's not the same.

1080p Futurama? *drools

Any word if the first 2 films will be released on Blu-ray?

Perhaps it's my non-HDMI cable talking here but for now I personally think my DVD versions look equally good, if not better because they're not blindingly sharp on my new 1080p television as opposed to my Blu Rays which are so sharp there's a white glow to the characters around every black line. (This doesn't hold true for my other stuff though *shrugs*) If I had a great cable I'm sure that issue would be solved. Suggestions for a good HDMI cable that isn't a fortune anyone? I'd like to get one and promptly chortle at how pitiful my DVDs all look followed by a repurchasing of the Futurama movies because shut up and take my money.

I haven't used these guys, but a couple of my friends have.  There are a zillion connector combinations, so be sure to get exactly the ones you want.

I'd say it's almost certainly your lack of HDMI cable... I mean... it's not an HD picture if it's not being transmitted down an HDMI cable is it?

Anyway, you don't need to go overboard when buying one. Make sure you spend enough money to get one that actually works, but that's it. It's sending a digital signal so the TV either receives it or it doesn't. There's no varying degrees of how well it receives the picture.

All this gold-plated cable nonsense is a load of... well, nonsense.

I have a really crappy HDMI cable so it means I can't watch anything in HD because of the random dots on screen when the picture in darker :(.

At least on my smaller display, HD (1080i) via short, high quality component video cables looks as good as when using the HDMI cable.

@cyber_turnip: I'd personally consider it HD regardless because of how low a quality normal television is compared to my DVDs/ Blu Rays. My picture quality is not so bad it looks like a JPG file, nor is it blurry. It's, at least to me, on par with the HD digital cable channels I get. But I've not played any live action movies to see the difference there yet. I'm sure that's where my normal cable will fail to impress me.

I'm pretty technologically impaired when it comes to choosing the perfect fit for me. I thank everyone for the help. :)

Anyone know if Katey Sagal does a commentary?  I'm not holding my breath on this, but it would be a pleasant surprise if she did one.

From the Möbius Dick review thread...

I saw this the second time now since I watched it in its first airing. It is the second episode on the Volume 6 Dvd.

Yup...

Maybe she's busy (or hopefully not ashamed of the show), but she could just never get to it.

Unfortunately, she isn't on any of the commentaries. :( But Dawnn Lewis is, so at least they're getting some new people to participate in them.

I don't think it's a case of her being ashamed of the show, since she credits it with rejuvenating her career and seems to have great fun doing it.

Perhaps she just feels she hasn't a lot to contribute to a commentary, being surrounded by folk who can do all those different voices and can discuss how they arrived at those voices, how they do them... and she just uses her regular speaking voice.
But I never listened to any of them, so I don't know what kind of thing they're supposed to talk about.

They just go off on tangents for most of the commentary until something they feel is really important happens in an episode (i.e. a really complex sequence). You should watch them sometime, coldy. They're pretty funny and far from droll.

Yeah the commentaries are delicious and my favourite thing about getting new DVD sets of the show (excluding actually owning the episodes, obviously).

Although they vary in quality, it has to be said. The best are the ones with really juicy anecdotes from David X. Cohen and Matt Groening as opposed to ones where Billy West and John DiMaggio spend the entire commentary in character as Fry and Bender.

But yes, they're easily the best commentaries I've ever heard and I've heard the infamous drunk commentary Trey Parker did for 'Cannibal! The Musical'.

I fucking LOL'd yesterday on the Lethal Inspection commentary when Billy West says "The Flux Capacitor, Marty!" in the Professor's voice.

Also, listen to John DiMaggio's version of Michael Rowe's (I think it was Mike...) "The Gay Guy and the Ghost" story on the Bend Her commentary. :laff:

The Science. of a Scene extra was pretty cool too. It's incredible how they animate a show, I can't believe I used to take this for granted.

Not anymore. I used to think that they would use programs to animate everything, they would just choose the frame amount and drag an arm (if it was waving) to a selected spot.  :nono:

Perhaps in 2014 when I have some free time.

If you've never listened to any of the Futurama commentaries, I highly recommend them.  They're arguably the best commentaries out of anything I've witnessed, and I compare all other commentaries to Futurama as a standard.  They're generally more entertaining than they are informative though.  That said, they're also generally as entertaining as the episodes they're commentating on, albeit in a different manner.

Maybe it's old-timer-ness kicking in, but I haven't found the commentaries past the movies to be that thrilling. The original run had some FANTASTIC commentaries...as of late, especially on these last discs, they were kinda boring. Different writers or a shifting group dynamic could be attributed to it. But regardless, it's just not...on par, ya know?

I have to be honest and say that I can't disagree with you there - on the Vol 6 commentaries anyway. They just seem to be lacking a bit of energy that the other commentaries (including the ones in Vol 5) had. Some are better than others and are still a good listen for a fan I'd say, but one of the things which I think didn't help is that all of them were done months before the episodes aired. I know past commentaries and some of the ones for Vol 5 were recorded like that, but I think part of what still made the commentaries on that set a great listen were when they'd mention viewer feedback from the internet on the episode they're commenting on.

Another thing which doesn't help - I think anyway - is that they're starting to have too many people in the commentaries - very much like they do on The Simpsons commentaries now. The original run, at most, had 8 people in the commentaries. These ones have like 10 or 11 at the most.

Is there a thread for the best/favorite commentary lines, or would such a thread be a bit too nerdy and obsessive? I haven't found one yet but I've been wrong before...
