I want Fry in Lightspeed briefs.

Don't we all.  Don't we all.  He looks pretty smashing in them for a cartoon character.

What is this thread about?  Something about plastic things?  I can't remember anymore.
Question is would he be normal and pasty or would he be a sculpted god like the mirror portrayed him to be (arm wenches not included)? Or would a mirror/alternate body be the accessory (which would be pretty kick-ass)? I would be amused to even see that make production so... I'd be up for whatever they threw at me.

Huh, what do ya know. TotPD in my thread. *dances around*

Thanks for the Tineez Bender pics!  He looks cool, but I wouldn't pay more than the $10 original price either.  I have some of the kid robot Futurama figures which are similar.  I only ended up with those because a friend had doubles.  They are cool, but I loathe both exclusives, blind boxing, and other sales stunts that these companies use.  Just let me conveniently buy the damn stuff!

True, and if they do one, they better damn well do Coilette at some point.  She taught me that there is no shame on letting a guy you're not interested in buy you dinner.

Linda is a pretty funny character, but she's not a Bender variant, and Coilette is a much better choice for that slot then say... Wooden Bender, or Golden Bender or Bender with a New Hat.

toynami will never do another glorious golden bender.

they're worth waaaay to much, because there's only 1000 of them.

i'm glad i don't gotta cough up $200+ for one.

Coilette better than Wooden Bender or Golden Bender?

Nah, those are two of my favourite figures of the whole line.

Wooden Bender in particular is really well done.

you know, at first i didn't like wooden bender, but strangely, he's grown to me and glorious golden bender is and will remain my favorite bender. i also dig the santa bender, tho his hat coulda been plastic and not cloth.

ordered my alternative mouth eyes bender a moment ago.  i wonder if he comes with the original benders accessories..or is it just gonna be him and some new eyes?

In saying that though, I am excited for this figure and have just ordered from the US so should be with me in the good old UK in a week or so (hopes  :D).
My plans for this figure are to use the body as a permanent body for Nixon.  :)

Cool!  I look forward to getting Bender v2.  I hope that Toynami makes a Zoidberg v2.  I think if they did a slightly different look on his face, many would buy him!  I have a Zoidberg, but I'd for sure buy another, especially if he had a different head sculpt (even slightly)!

Many people are after just the v1 Zoidberg cause it's super rare, so they should just do an encore version for now.

I can shed a little light on why there's not been a Zoidberg Encore as of yet.  A few of the molds were misplaced from one factory to the next.  And re tooling these parts again wouldn't really constitute the costs.  But things can always change! I've been pushing pretty hard for a new Zoidberg, variant costume or whatever, for a while now.  Also a new Fry would be cool me thinks! Anyways..........

What do you guys think about the Talking Robot Devil? The voice over was recorded this week I've heard.  The prototype you saw at SDCC unfortunately is a total re-sculpt at this point.  I blew up the BOB Devil, but they wanted to go another direction with it.  So gotta redo him all together, but work is work!!

I would like to see, because I don't think I've seen a picture of him yet.  The idea of a talking robot devil is fantastic though, as he delivers some of the most memorable lines in the series.

I really would like some more of the female characters in figgy form.  3 individuals is not enough, considering how many series there are!

Ahhh, that makes sense with the lack of Zoidberg re-issues. It's great you are pushing for another Zoidberg variant *cough* Jesus Zoidberg *cough*. Also, more variants of the main characters (not named Bender) would be cool. I want more Fry, Leela and Professor personally. That would be one way to increase the female presence in the figures.

Yeah I always wanted to do the astronaut Leela and Fry, but I heard the superhero variants didn't do too well.  I'm not sure why exactly, but I thought they were great! Haha yeah Jesus Zoidberg is in my top choices! I kind of want to do a Zoidberg without a shell, but that would be really gross haha!  I'm working on a Leela concept for a second Tineez series, but I'd love to do a Leela in a new deco.  Any suggestions?

Hmmm... Leela in her wrestling uniform or in a swimsuit?
Or one I would buy is child Leela since she's just too cute.  She could come with her monocle. I think that would work really, similar to the ghost world little enid figures  I would also love chubby child Amy with glasses. She had me going aww all through tmlh!

More Tineez! Now that is truly good news. For me the Tineez series is an alternative to the Kidrobot series, which looks cool but I refuse to buy blindboxes.

For alternatives, spacesuit Fry and Leela would be really cool and I think really popular.

A whole child version of the crew could really be made...although the Tineez kind of fill that role.

Out of curiosity ScultBoy, how long does it take to design and create a mold, since you mentioned it is not economical to create a whole new Zoidberg one.

I think a Tineez series of child versions of the crew would be super dooper. (Whole Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles).  The question is what stage of Zoidberg's lifestyle would you choose? I can see Baby Bender being very popular, because of Lethal Inspection.  You could also have a secret/exclusive/whatever child character, like Cubert or Dwight, or maybe even an obscure one like the Crushinator's daughter or Tinny TIm.    Orphanage Leela is what I was thinking, and yes.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41l02Wd6X%2BL._SL500_AA300_.jpg  Here!  :)

I also like the Spacesuit Leela that was pitched as well.  Give her a raygun to complete the whole Raygun Gothic look.

I thought of two eyes Leela but it would look a bit too weird, and too small of a change.

otto, two questions..first being....why isn't  there a swimsuit leeah. I know toynami got the MAC molds and can easily satisfy peoples request for female figures, why hasn't this been done? and secondly..you're the sculpt boy and might no be able to answer this, but for all the die hards...what's the difference between the exclusive SDCC packaging and normal packaging of the destructor/gender bender?

For Leela variants, the one that came to mind for me is Leela in her green captains jacket!  Simple and she is seen in it a bunch!  My current Toynami Leela is nice, but I'd like to see one with a bit more of an action pose.  The MAC one was cool because she had a lot of articulation, although the cuts were a bit too obvious.  Her boots should be bigger too to help her stand better.

I'm really happy you were able to give us a reason about Zoidberg, Otto, and I'm stoked that you're talking to us about this stuff!  I hope your bosses and all realize how much that means to those of us who buy the products.

I can understand why they'd hesitate to produce another standard Zoidberg if they don't have the original mold, but I would be willing to guess that he would be guaranteed money for them if they did retool stuff for him.  Plus if you did it Otto, I'm sure he'd be even better than the original!

I think the Robot Devil looked cool at SDCC!  I really like my talking Bender, I think he's great.  Personally I would have preferred a talking Fry next, but a talking Robot Devil is a great choice.  Do you think they'll shrink your sculpt down for an "encore" Robot Devil release?  I have the BOB version, but a new one would be kick butt too!

Thanks Otto, for the explanation on the misplaced Zoidberg molds. Sucks to hear, but nice to finally understand why no Zoidberg reissue yet. Wish toy companies would just explain stuff like this. Better to hear bad news, than to bang your head in the dark feeling like no one's listening.

I've got mine, but sure hope Toynami can make another regular Zoidberg, as he's an essential piece for anyone who didn't get him at first and new people to the line. Would think there'd be enough demand for him that it'd be worth redoing the molds and having a regular run of him again.

That said, if we're talking a new Zoidberg variant, add my hallelujah to a Jesus Zoidberg!

Same for me, just like this with a severed Bender head with sad eyes at his feet. :P

By the way, don't know about other places, but Bender 2.0 is already sold out at BBTS - was in stock for about a day as far as I can tell. This begs the question why Toynami doesn't pump out more of these figures. Anyway, it pays to preorder!

Now if Toynami would just let us preorder some of the "new" figures. Otto, don't suppose you can shed any light on what's taken so long getting figures like Morbo, Lrrr, etc, out to retail? Now sure which is worse, the wait for the figures or the wait for preordering them... At least when they're available for preorder, they feel more real.

Yeah I always wanted to do the astronaut Leela and Fry, but I heard the superhero variants didn't do too well.

My take on the superhero variants is that something like that would be best marketed as three-pack set, which combined is more impressive and has more appeal to impulse buyers than trying to track down the individual ones.

This might not be a popular opinion, but for all the complaints about Bender variants, the fact is he seems to sell and sell well. I'm not at all convinced that a Leela variant would sell very well, and have my doubts even about Fry. They'd have to be very cool-looking ones.

Personally, I don't have any interest in a swimsuit Leela - passed on her with MAC and I'd pass again. I'm hardpressed to think of a variant of hers I really want.

I kind of like the astronaut suits, but don’t know how well they’d sell. I wouldn’t be super excited about them and would rather it came as a Fry-Leela two-pack rather than taking up valuable slots in the regular line.

When it comes to Planet Express crew variants, Jesus Zoidberg I’m passionate about, Robo-Farnsworth I’d be excited about and I still really want the Universe B set finished with Amy, Hermes and Farnsworth (an easy SDCC money maker I’d think).

And if I had to have another Bender, I’d be down for a Pharaoh Bender if it came in a set perched on slave Fry and Leela. Otherwise, there are a lot of cool other characters I’d rather have first (Scruffy!).

i'd be down for a robot professor over a fembot that's a no brainer.

and i wonder when toynamis gonna start doing double packs. i mean, it's not like they've never done them before.

and i'm with y'all, thank god an actuall toynami employee is letting us know things that toynami refuses to. i read some of their facebook page and they don't respond to anything really.

another head in jar - It doesn't take too long at all on my end to do a new sculpt and mold, but the problem area is the actual tooling of the metal injection mold in China.  That takes two to three months and costs start at around 15,000 dollars.  So you have to be sure youll be able to do at least enough business to break even.  Its easier for companies that sell in Walmart or Target, but for us its a lot harder.

apexxx - I can't tell you with any certainty, but i can tell you my first wave of concepts were rejected! I went for a cuter look, where I guess Matt and his people want to take the line into a more manga look? Which is disappointing to me because i really liked mine! Haha I'm totally biased of course but we'll see what happens. I wish I could tell you more.

SpaceGoldfishfromWazn - That's great!! I've never seen that little Enid before! I actually have the bigger one they did, but the baby one is awesome! Its a nice clean style and a wonderful paint up!

nacirema - You know I'm not sure that we do have the swimsuit Leela molds.  Maybe we do, it was long before my time so I cant say with full confidence.  But if we do have it, I'm not sure why we haven't ran it.  I know Golden Bender was the MAC version and some parts of Fry and Leela were shared.  As to the swimsuit Leela I'm not sure.

Okay, to my understanding the SDCC Destructor is going to be in a super sweet rusty metallic barn door box.  Ive seen the mock up and its really really cool.  As far as the other release, Its going to be Destructor and gender bender together.  This is going to be the only release of Gender Bender, so I think only 2000 Gender benders will be produced.  I'm also trying to find a way to include the wrestling ring!

Gonzo the Grape - Robot Devil was an odd choice to me for the second talking figure too.  I just assumed when I was approached to do a second one that it would be Fry.  But I like Robot Devil so I was excited to do him in a larger scale.  It would be cool if we could scale the new one down and make a regular line Devil.  Disregard all the pics you've seen of him at the show because he's going to look a lot different after I finish the new head and chest.....and some accessories!

nacirema - Did you think the colors were off too? Thank you!! I've been through so many debates of them telling me what colors to use for him and I always say "Hmm this doesn't look quite right" but they're supposed to be the definitive knowledge on this.  I get all the color codes from Film Roman so I have to do it.

jabalong - I wish I knew when those guys were coming out!!! They always tell me "Coming Soon" haha so I don't know.  Maybe they're trying to build some money up in the Futurama line to push the production on all of these.  So maybe if the Tineez and the plush do well there will be some capital to get these guys produced and in stores.

Thanks guys and gals! I hope I answered everyone's questions! And thanks for all your input I really appreciate it!

-Otto

One other question, any idea of the Donbot is going to come with accessories? A hat and coat over his shoulder would really tie the figure together perfectly.

Looking forward to the retail version of Destructor with Gender Bender - and if we got the ring too that'd be some sweet icing on the cake!

If it's money Toynami needs, they should get the regular figures out, as they all look great. I shudder to think of this line's fate being in the hands of plushies and tineez sales. Ugh.
