I'm like Nacirema, kinda obsessed with the figures!   :D
I liked comparing the MAC figs to the Toynami ones when I first got them.  I almost passed on them but wanted the Robot Devil.  I think the Toynami paint jobs are better.  The slight tweaks to Fry and Bender's head sculpts are small, but make for better likenesses.

I do still have my MAC Bender posed with the majority of the figures and Toynami Bender sits next to my computer.  Although, he is the re-issue Bender.  I bought Bender when he first came out, then left him in package because I had my MAC Bender.  Then for a wedding gift I decided to give my buddy the Toynami Bender because he was a big Futurama fan and had the MAC Fry proudly displayed in his home and I was just hanging my Bender on my wall and figured he'd appreciate a Bender for his Fry.  The re-issues of Bender and Fry came out soon after (two or three months) so I picked up a re-issue of Bender to stick by my computer.  It was slightly stupid because now I don't have the top hat and cane for the Robot Devil, but I wouldn't display him with it anyway.  I keep most of the accessories in a little bag in a drawer.  My buddy really liked it too.  He's not a big action figure guy, but was super happy to get a Bender figure.  It was worth it, plus I have a Toynami Bender!  Aaand I look forward to getting the re-re-issue of Bender!  I'll personally never have too many Benders.

I've been fortunate to get hold of all the figures so far, bought the MAC figures when they were released 10 years or so ago and jumped straight back on the band wagon when Golden Bender went up for sale.

I have to be honest though, i sell on eBay now and then and instead of buying one Golden Bender i bought 3.

This was not through greed though it was a simple case of paying around £20 for one figure + £35 shipping or buying the 3 and paying a total cost of £110 and hoping to make the one figure i wanted to keep affordable by making my money back on the other 2.

The first Golden Bender sold for only £27, how i wish i held on to him. Ridiculous what people are paying now.

Has the Gender Bender skyrocket in value yet because initially no one wanted it, as predicted by the commentators on the dvd? :laff:

From what i have seen the only wind up which has gone up in value is URL. The rest are all easy enough to get hold of for around £20 in th UK.

my personal favorite MAC figure is the carded swimsuit leela.

and maaaan, is the carded planet express ship catchin a high price these days.

i'm a huge fan of the exclusivs tho. to know that i own two blue zoidbergs and the mating season one and only 1999 others do is a pretty sweet thing.

I wish I'd picked up that MAC Planet Express ship, it's just risen in price. Would be nice to see Toynami redo that one, though I'd rather see it as an accessory - say packaging it with Dwight and Cubert or some other small figure(s) like Hypnotoad.

i haven't opened my figures..aside from zap and the robot santa santa bender ones. just to put the robot santa on the christmas tree..and to make a loveable nixon.

but i'm tempted to open wooden bender. as anything other than the first six aren't really worth money.  tho i don't keep them for the monitary value. they just look sweet on the shelves in the boxes.

I love Wooden Bender, he's actually one of my favourite figures of the whole line. He's so different, yet at the same time unmistakably Bender. I like the clean design and his twig limbs.

The only one of my Benders that always bugs me a bit is the Xmas Bender's cloth hat, which feels out of place with the other figures. Would have preferred they'd done his hat in plastic. I'm tempted to take it off, but then he's a bit plain.

i found that a bit weird too.

i highly suggest you put robot santa on top of your christmas tree, makes for great conversation.

the figure that i'm highly anticipating is scruffy. my planet express crew will not be totally complete until he's in it. porno mag and all. i could wait for dwight and cubert. not saying i don't want them, but they can wait.

do you think toynami will do a double, like they did with the exclusive alternate universe leela and fry with those two?

I don't think Dwigth or Cubert would be enough to sell on their own as a figure. So I'd think Toynami would have to release them as a two-pack or each of them as an "accessory" (like Nixon's head and Podium with Zapp) to another figure.

Either way they could fit in a regular figure box. Frankly, even Dwight and Cubert together is a bit light in my view, so that's why I figured that might be one place you could add in a Planet Express ship, and it's sort of appropriate as they're related to the Planet Express crew.

Dwight and Cubert aren't high on my list either, was just trying to think of figures that would make sense to package with a mini MAC-style Planet Express ship, based on figure size and character appropriateness.

On a similar note, Hypnotoad, a character that is high on my wishlist however, is another tricky figure, as he's too small on his own, but doesn't really have a character to go with that makes sense. My only thought was give us Hypnotoad, his #1 podium and the bearded guy in this pic:

Alternatively, since we don't have any BAFs, you could have a series where each character comes packaged with a random small character. So maybe Cubert with one, Dwight with another, Hypnotoad and his podium with a third character, Tiny Tim comes to mind as another, etc.

Any other small characters we could get this way? I still think a whole series of figures each coming with a random head in a jar would be cool too (or a box set of heads in jars with a display rack!).

The only downside to doing these small-character add-ins to other figures is like the BAF pieces in the past it is liable to lead Toynami to cut back on accessories for the main figure in the box, or not do any at all. This need not be so of course and it would be nice to see Toynami become more generous with the accessories and add-ins.

very true.

i'd love a rack of heads in a jar.  but what heads would you want? atleast six, to make up a two shelf display would be nice. a couple presidents, some celeberties, musicians, and some scientists.

i personally could give a sh!t about hypnotoad..yeah, he's an awesome character and in alot of episodes but i don't see him selling that much. unless he's made alittle bigger and has some awesome accesories.

i too am disliking the lack of accessories, but i'd rather the figures be more articulated. like nudar and the first run of fry.  those are the two most articulated figures in the whole line.  they shoulda used more of the original MAC leela in their design for the toynami one.  the only thing they shoulda changed was her stance. i'm all for what toynami does, but atleast get more movement in the figures.

i'd also love to see a robot chicken episode dedicated to futurama..that'd blow my mind.

on the ship aspect. it's far too large to be an accessori for a figure, and i wouldn't see them releasing it on it's own as MAC did, with a box of horors and two aliens.  but i'd love to see a same size one done by toynami. possibly with more movement than just the three legs of the ship and the turret. maybe the cargo door could open? something like that..altho, in having two of them (one carded and one loose) it's real fun to play with.

It's been a long time since I've seen that MAC ship and never actually held it in my hand. I just remember thinking at the time that it seemed small to be paying a regular figure price for it. If it's too big to do as an accessory, maybe a third option is a bigger one. I really don't see us getting a scale version, but with large deluxe figures like Destructor on the horizon, maybe there's room for a "deluxe" size version of the MAC ship.

For the heads in jars, my first choices are Futurama creators Matt Groenig and David Cohen. I think Al Gore is a must, plus he'd be cool with his cape thingey. If I had to pick three more, I'd go with some Star Trek actors, starting with Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner and DeForest Kelley. (Actually I'd be down for the whole set of classic Trek heads or figures from "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" but that's a different story.)

Check out this post of mine from awhile back for photos. And here's a nice shot of a bunch of them, though really there have been tons more...  Toynami could include a head in a jar with every figure and never run out of ideas for them. Man, I'd love to have a whole rack of heads in jars - that would be sweet.

very true, i could go for a head in a jar every figure.

the MAC ships only the size of your palm. horrid thing about it is it seems most of the MAC figures are catchin a nice price on ebay..so your hopes to get one are kinda figured by how much you want it.

tho, i should refrain from talking about the MAC figures.  since this is the toynami thread...tho it seems fitting because MAC was the first to make the figures.

Fry deserves a new figure. Something different. His regular look just wasn't interesting enough for me to buy, and the Captain Yesterday was a bit too out there. And his alternate universe exclusive existed.

Maybe, for the number of times Fry has been seen walking around in a towel, that a Fry-in-towel figure would be good. Honestly he doesn't have much variety in clothing. But a towel fits his personality -- he's a vulnerable and often unprepared character.

Or maybe a generic space suit with a bubble helmet and rocket pack.

I found this a bit surprising!  Passing on classic Fry!!?  To each there own, it's of course fine.  I just love the regular Fry figure.
I would think Fry in his underwear would make more sense than in a towel.  But I'd rather have new characters before that.  I think we had a whole spot in the old thread where we talked about Fry variants?  I think.

We last knocked around some Planet Express crew variants here in the old thread.

As for Fry, yup I'd say him in his underwear sounds about right. A spacesuit could work too. And I still like Emperor Fry with Bont's face on his stomache (see above thread).

But really I could live with no core character variants for a while as there are a lot of other cool characters to make.

The only variant that really gets me excited is Zoidberg Jesus...accept him into your heart.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, core characters have to be in every wave or else the line will die, since it depends on purchases from more than the hardcore fans to survive. Lines are sold to stores such as record stores (so to speak) which wouldn't buy a line with only obscure characters. They have to appeal to the general public who only know the Planet Express crew. But y'all know this.

But I have an idea -- Fry wearing a towel, and under the removable towel, he's in his tighty-whiteys. That way he's got two looks in one.

Boy, I hope not- since we have the robot mafia and Flexo coming up!  Then Lrrr and Morbo too.  When there are only two figures in a wave it's nicer for the collectors when different characters are offered for sure.  When variants are used, Toynami has been pretty good with giving us something fairly dynamic or unique.

If they made any variants for the core characters, why not give them the space suits they used in The Sting and the Globetrotters episode as well? They're fairly interesting suits and prominent throughout the series.

Good call, Willbfree.  To a nerd like I, that thought escaped me at the moment.  I suppose Flexo is some what ;) similar.  You are right.

I hope Clamps and Joey sell well enough for Toynami to trust side characters to sell a series!

Have they done Elzar yet with Spice Weasel? Need to do HedonismBot with grapes!

Other variants of original crew could be them in the third segment of AOI 2 when they're dressed up similar to but legally distinct from that one movie...whatever that movie was... ;)

Or how about Bender with the white fur coat from Raging Bender? Or the tuxedo from BBS?

i'm all for a three series release of secondary characters, and no core charactor variants. i think everyone already has two frys, two leelas and four benders.

three frys and leelas if you have the exclusives, six counting bender.

i'm thinking elzar, scruffy, in the first wave. sal, slurms, in the second wave, and two others...anything but another bender. i know he sells better than any of the other figures but he's starting to get played out. if they do a bender make it the gender bender to go along with destructor.

i'll say it now, and i'll say it again i wanna scruffy!

also, i was a huge fan of the BAF, they should bring that back, make the first one hedonism bot. or malfunctioning eddie.  i'd buy three of malfunctioning eddie.

I think it's safe to say the BAFs are gone for good.

Personally though i am not too bothered because the Deluxe Figures have replaced them.

How would we fit Destructors torso in a box with another figure?

We are seeing the next generation of figures and its all good!
