2011/07/19 09:58:56Also they really should make some figures of their female characters.  Three vs... how many males?  What are we, on Planette Smurfette?

Hmmm, Smurfette. Got any ideas for which female characters you'd like made? How about a top 10 list...

Challenge accepted!

Obviously Leela, Amy and Mom would be the top 3, but are inelligable here, so:

*Planet Express Ship
*Wash Bucket (as Scruffy accessory)
*Vyolet
*Hattie
*Petunia
*Crushinator
*Linda
*Munda?
*Inez?
*Uh, Gypsy?
*Ndnd?

Okay, so Wash Bucket is a bit of a cheat, Planet Express Ship probably won't happen and I'm not sure about the last four. Also most of those require a companion figure...

Or as much as everyone dislikes her, Michelle. She has come back several times in the series...so here are more to add to that list:

*Michelle
*LaBarbara
*Monique
*Doctor Good and Sexy
*Leela's Mom
*Edna

But would any of them be in your top ten? Dr. Cahill (Good and Sexy) is almost worth a spot in the bottom three of the ten, I'm sure she'll grow on me as they use her more.

Welllll lessee...I was initially just listing off more females for anyone else who wanted to know. Mine would include:

  • The Crushinator (because if they got her figure to pull out its front, it would be really neat)
  • Edna - accessories could be a piece of toast, and her toothbrush
  • Thog, the Amazon woman -accessory could be that clubbing weapon they carry around and a big comb
  • Morgan Proctor - how could I forget her! Her hair should be replaceable like Bender's eyes on the figures so we can see her hair down :D
  • Dr. Cahill - would probably test well amongst male fans who enjoyed the figures of Leela in her black wrestling suit

I would list Umbriel too, but that would be odd to have a figure that wouldn't stand like the rest of them.

Did no one really mention Grrrl?

Grrl is pretty cool, but we haven't seen enough of her yet to take up a space.   I think a better spot would be Ndnd.

I also can't believe they haven't done Lebarbara yet.

Quolnok listed pretty much all of the ones I would have mentioned jaba, but I could add a few more to the list:
Chief o Manahan (with Bert as an accessory)
Coilette.
Grand Midwife

I think we will be seeing more of Dr Cahill, same with the Chief.

Maybe they could do a limited edition set of Bender's Loves: Angelyne, Countess de la Roca (whose propellor is an accessory), Fanny, Hookerbot.

If they do the Crushinator, I think they should make her daughter from SotC as an accessory.  That baby truck thing was just too cute.

@hobo bot

Really cool. Simple as.

One thing though how come MAC brought the ultimate in accessories to life (all be it a back ground which the figures can stand on) and Toynami can't even mould a brain slug for Hermes, a Poop tray for nibbler or any other small accessories.

But would any of them be in your top ten?

This is the big question. We've listed a lot of noteworthy female characters, but I have a hard time seeing most of them being made, let alone being in anyone's top ten of figures wanted.

So how about it, if you were deciding on the next ten figures for Toynami to make, which if any of these female characters would make your list?

Many of these I could only see have a chance of being made as sets, which Toynami so far other than SDCC exclusives hasn't really seemed interested in.

* Washbucket’s a must, but as an accessory to Scruffy.

* Linda should come with Morbo, otherwise she's a pegwarmer I figure.

* Leela's mom would work if say in a set of mutants, say with Leela's father and another one.

* Hattie and Petunia would never be made on their own, but package them with Sal in a human riff-raff three-pack and you've got something more sellable.

* Inez Wong would have to be with her husband, but not sure that sells.

* LaBarbara I somehow could see as a stand-alone figure, but I’d add Dwight and Cuthbert to her as accessories to make her more appealing.

The only female characters at this point I could really see selling well would be cool robots or aliens:

* Hooker fembots – any and all.

* Angleyne and Monique are good-looking other fembots – Monique would be nice as a two-pack with a slick clothed Calculon variant.

* Crushinator, yes please, she’s a classic and bots are popular.

* An Amazonian I definitely want, though I think I like the one with the mohawk better.

* Ndnd hasn’t been mentioned has she – Lrrr looks great and I’d be down for a female Omicronian.

* Coilette I could see, though if we’re getting Gender Bender, another Bender in drag isn’t a top priority.

So to answer my question, Crushinator, a hooker fembot, an Amazonian and probably Ndnd could crack my top ten wishlist.

LaBarbara, Linda, Angleyne and Monique are close, but more in my top 20 – though I’d be really happy if Linda came with Morbo and LaBarbara would move up if she came with the kids. And really I wouldn’t turn my nose up at any fembot.

The thought of a Sal, Hattie and Petunia three-pack excites me – sort of like a human riff-raff army building set, LOL.

toynami does need to start making doube figure sets.

they've only done it twice, and they were both SDCC exclusives. maybe they could do a collet-o-pak like MAC did.

I really like the idea of that riff-raff pack

The other multipack that'd sell well is the major mutants (Vyolet, Raoul, Dwayne [Leg Mutant accessory]). I kinda hope they announce such a pack initially as just being Leg Mutant...

What about a set with Slurms McKenzie and Dixie and Trixie as a threepack?

I would certainly like one of Angelyne and the Countess, but I can't see them selling all that well, unless they were limited edition.   Fanny might have a better chance of selling well, as she's already made as many reapperances as many of the original series fembots, despite only being introduced in the last movie.   The Crushinator would have to be huge though!

Though I think Coilette should appear, certainly if its a choice between her and Gender Bender.   Coilette isn't just Bender in a funny outfit, she's practically a character in her own right.  She certainly feels more fleshed out then just being an "alter ego".

Unfortunately, most female secondary characters in Futurama are pretty minor.  I don't think Roberto is an especially interesting character, but he has had his own episode, which is more then can be said then for say... Linda or Petunia (even though I find those two characters a lot funnier.)    Though some one note/minor characters are so funny people would probably buy them, like say, Morbo or Hedonismbot.

Even though I want more female characters in figgy form, I don't think I would buy Monique.  She has her moments in the soap opera, but I don't find her very interesting.  Her spot would be much better taken by Fanny or Petunia.

Hmmm.  Maybe, but they look too similar, so I think it would feel like getting one figurine for the price of three, so I cant see it selling all that well.   I think a better example would be Linda and Morbo, or Lrr and Ndnd.  : )

Also I would love them to make a figurine of Fluffers, and she came with her own David Spiegel accessory.  I cant see them doing that, because the two of them have appeared twice and have never spoken.  Shame, I think they need some screentime.

I also wonder what color Angelyne would be if they made her, since shes one of the only robots who changes her outfit.  Pink or teal?

Ah, Fanny's a good idea, though she would have been best as part of a Robot Mafia pack.

I'm glad we're gettting the Mafia guys, but I'd wish Toynami would put this kind of stuff out as multipacks and free up single-figure slots.

Was the same with the New Justice Team, which really was begging to be a three-pack.

So, Gender Bender is packed with Destructor and a ring!

The devil is back as a non-buildable, with lighter colours.

There's a stuffed looking pointy orange thing below the devil. Fry plush?

More SDCC 2011 Toynami stuff (in between all the Japanese stuff):

http://www.mwctoys.com/sdcc2011/sdcc2011_toynami_bottom.htm

Other than hobo bot's pics, unfortunately nothing we haven't seen already at Toy Fair.

So the only new stuff is Gender Bender and Robot Devil.

Robot Devil is great for people who'd given up hope of ever getting one.

That ring is awesome - will we really get that with Destructor and Gender Bender? Wow.

If so, it begs for that cool striped alien referree and Bender's little coach guy. Future figures?

The plushes look awful.

Well actually Zoidberg looks great I think, since he's been cutified but is still recognizable.   Robot Devil is far and away the best looking, since again he has been stylized into a cute plushie, but without sacrificing his robot devilyness.

The hypno toad looks nothing like the hypno toad, Fry is awful from his bulbous froggy eyes to his flat hair, and Kif looks like a cheaply made claw machine prize.  I was looking forward to the Fry plush, but I won't be buying one.   It takes a genius to make something as cute as Fry and turn it into... that.

Jabalong is right, that in another pic you can see that the Robot Devil is the size of talking Bender.
This doesn't excite me much, personally- I'd rather they release him as a regular sized figure in the series, but he does look cool.  As someone who owns the Robot Devil, I wouldn't mind if they had another 6 inch Robot Devil, especially if the colors are different and the sculpt is too.  Since we've never seen bigger sculpts that they then turn into smaller figures, I'm guessing it's a 9 inch Robot Devil.

I think Gender Bender with Destructor is cool!  It would be awesome to get the ring, but I don't know how likely that is.  I'm excited.  I hope Toynami starts letting me buy this stuff soon!!

Dear Toynami:

I can't wait for all of these figures. It would be cool if Toynami sold the ring with the figures but it would be expensive and large. Although the ring
does look like a proper mold....hmmmm.

The Robot Devil looks off due to the paint. Maybe they really rushed him because if you look at the torso (the right side) it seems some paint (the limb colour) is peaking
through. Maybe the final product will be painted more similar to the original. Although it looks as if the accessories won't be available, maybe as a separation for the collectors
who own the original?

Gender Bender looks good, especially with the new set of eyes. I know, another bender but those figures are probably funding the entire line so suck it up and purchase it.

Well guys, I think this isnt bad from Toynami considering the amount unveiled at NYTF earlier in the year.
A few points -
Positives first -
1 - Gender Bender/Destructor and ring - great figures (like the eyes and bent antenna), and if we get them as a set will be even better.

2 - New Robot Devil is the bigger scale and probably a "talkie" as spotted earlier. I already have the build-a-bot version so im quite happy about this to preserve the rarity of the original figure (sorry - prob not popular with those that dont have him).

3 - A Plushie Hypnotoad does show that Toynami are willing to invest money in this character, if you note all the other plushies already have a standard figure version so may be a standard Hypnotoad in the works. ;)

4 - Tinyeez, as Jabalong said, I also tend to ignore these, but the fact they are a multi-pack has got my attention.

Ok, now the negatives-
1 - Morbo and Lrr, description on plate "Deluxe Figure", once again NO release date from Toynami! They have been wheeling these prototypes out for a year now.

2 - Series 10 and 11 - Plate reads "Coming Soon"!

3 - No Bender 2.0 figure on display (that i have seen yet anyway) with the new alternative eyes and mouths.  :hmpf:

So as far as new stuff goes, not bad from Toynami. But as far as info goes, bad from Toynami. What do we have to do to get a chance to spend our money with them!?

Found some more pics on google images, looks as though the ring was made for the display at comic con.

If it was to be part of the Destructor set i think it would be too big (and expensive) for Toynami to retail.

Also pleased to see the Robot Devil to go with talking Bender. ;)

My guess, and fair warning I'm rarely right, would be that Destructor will come with Gender Bender.  It would be neat if those figures came with the ropes and polls of the ring, but I don't think that would happen.  I think we won't get the ring mainly because we've never seen anything like that from Toynami before.  Playsets don't seem to be their thing.

i concur.

sadly. they should have done as MAC did, and had a set up like the original figures.

kinda glad i copped 'em while they were cheap.

if gender bender isn't with destructor then they're stupid. they should be a two pack. for sure i'd love to see the ring, but i could live without. just like y'all said that's too expensive for just the casual collector. we on the otherhand are hardcore fanboys. and if the robot devil is a talking one, considered it ordered. but if it's another 6 inch one, i'm contient with my original. even tho i've never put it together being as all my figures are still in the packages.

Dear Toynami:

My sentiments exactly! I've never chased a company that made it so hard for me to give them my money!!!

It seems like Toynami is so busy thinking up new lines (large figures, plushies, tineez), it's dropped the ball on production of its core figure line.

At least they aren't insulting us with make-believe release dates and have started putting "coming soon" on the displays.

I'm not holding my breath on getting the ring (and frankly I don't have space for it on my shelf!).

That said, I wouldn't think it would be that hard to produce - it could just be a solid bottom with four equal side ring pieces that hook together (like fences on little kids' farm sets).

With the size of Destructor and if Gender Bender is in there too, the base of the ring would probably be the right size to fit behind the figures along with the ring side pieces.

Looking at the display, the posts look to me like they're made out of the same material as some of the figures, rather than some other material for a temporary display.

In the end, I have no idea and wouldn't bet on getting the ring, but who knows maybe - either way, it definitely could be done.
