Could you post up the stuff you've done, or email it to me at alexvilagosh@hotmail.com?

There are a lot of good artists here that could help, and Chump did one but he lost it all, but he still may help you.

anything to post yet jaredmellentine? and chump, it probably was a lot of work, but you stil have that board at the FSAC so (just suggesting) but why not start again, but just double up on some back up files so you won't lose them again? like for example, put them all on a website or store them in an e-mail account? anyways, i'm sad to heard that they all got lost, i was looking forward to a Futuropoly.

As I mentioned before, I am going to need some help on a few things. First of all, don't try to help me unless you've read the page that I linked to above (all the links, smartypants  ). That should give you a good grasp of the direction that I'm going with this game.

I will need some help with the descriptions of properties. All property descriptions were taken from the encyclopedia at CGEF and maybe one other place... I forget. Coming up with content was never my strong point, but I'm sure someone here is good at it. The properties that I will need content for are:
- Little Neptune
- Past-O-Rama
- Cookieville Orphanarium
- Dinkin' Donuts
- O'Zorgnax's Pub
- Luna Park
- Famous Original Ray's Superior Court
- Applied Cryogenics
- Academy of Inventors
- Alien Overlord and Taylor
- The Hip Joint
- Madison Cube Garden
- Elzar's Fine Cuisine
- Robot Arms Apartments
- Historic (Square Root) 66 Truck Stop
- South Street Space Port
- Malfunctioning Eddie's Car Emporium

I know, it seems like a lot, but I think that if all of us work together we etc, etc. You can post your descriptions here or you can email them to me.

Let's see... how to put this nicely. I'm not going to use crappy descriptions  :nono:, so make them good.

Thanks for your help!  :)

Famous Original Ray's Superior Court
Alien Overlord and Taylor
Historic (Square Root) 66 Truck Stop

Yes, everything that I had made and remade is gone. It was lost with the multitude of other files that I lost. Anyway, I guess all I can offer you is a little guidence, and the old version of the board which is on FSAC under Kevin Mac page 2. I ditched the Giant shimmering effect in favour of a wite background with losts of art in it. You may wish to go in that direction, I don't know. Theres another thread around somewhere... you might want to find that too.

I had two options that I was thinking about. First of all, there are some small action figure sets that include all the characters I need. The sets are available through eBay.

Fry, Leela, Bender, Farnsworth:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3232643511&category=363
Amy, Zoidberg:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3138061737&category=20909
Hermes, Nibbler:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3138061520&category=20909

The second idea wasn't mine. I was reading on this message board and I came across something that was made for the last board. Basically it is a piece of paper that folds into an isosceles triangle, showing the name and figure of the character. It's a cool idea and it's a lot cheaper than spending ~$40 (after shipping) on those metal figurines.

Again, thanks for your willingness to help. I would be honored to have you help me at some point during this. I would like your input on the board. I really liked your gameboard that you designed, but I had a couple issues with it. I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to put down your original idea. I'm not. Anyway, here's my thoughts on the board:

As I mentioned before, I'm creating all my images at 300dpi. The only version of the board that I can find is 2000px by 2000px at 72dpi (27.78 inches wide). I could convert this to 300 dpi, but it would result in a board that is 6.67 inches wide. While I haven't actually measured a normal Monopoly board, I've done a little research that suggests that they are 22 inches by 22 inches. At 300dpi, this would require a board size of 6600px by 6600px. It's pretty much impossible to resize an image by threefold and expect a decent quality print.  I would be willing to use your board as a reference, but I wouldn't be able to use it for print.

Okay, the second issue is this. I would like to see more character in the board. I don't know what all that involves or if it's even possible with a Futurama version of this game. I think I've mentioned the Simpsons Monopoly board before. I really like the fact that they tie all the different properties together as storefronts in a town. I don't have any suggestions about how to do this with Futuropoly, that's why I'm asking for help.

Simpsons Monopoly board #1:  http://www.animationalley.com/images/misc/simp_monop.jpg
Simpsons Monopoly board #2:  http://www.direct.ca/bigpetes/monopoly.jpg

Okay, one last thing about the board. I really, really don't want to offend you with these proposed changes. I hope I haven't done that. It's difficult to know if I've done any harm in a forum like this, so please let me know. I want you to know that I was blown away when I saw your board that you designed. That's the only reason I'm working on Futuropoly.

Lastly, I've found the other Futuropoly thread.

I found another place to get the figurines, if you hate eBay for some reason. They're a little bit more expensive though.

Sorry about the double post, but I've got some stuff to aks you guys. Here is my Madison Cube Garden description so far:

Quote
Madison Cube Garden is the New New York equivalent to 20th century New York's Madison Square Garden. It regularly holds important events, including Blurnsball matches and rock concerts, and is one of the symbols of the city.

What other information should I/can I add to this?

I've just done another, The Hip Joint. Same goes as above, what should I add or change?

Quote
The place to hang if you want to be cool in the 30th Century would have to be The Hip Joint. Floating through space, this club is the perfect place to go and hone your flirting skills and hopefully pick up. The styles and fashion there are very retro, with rings being worn by nearly everyone. Rings have been out of style for years and are not cool, but they are retro!
Not sure about spellings too.

Take your cues for length from the samples posted on my sample site ( http://www.mellentine.com/futuropoly/?p=property ). I've posted the longest description (New New York Tube Lines) and the shortest description (Planet Express).

I know I've mentioned this before, but I never received a response in regards to this issue. As you all know, I'm planning on re-designing the board for various reasons previously posted. I'd also like to make the board properties seem to fit better with each other rather than having individual properties. That may seem a little confusing. Here's an example:

We all know that in "Hell is Other Robots" (1ACV09) Fry and Leela go to Robot Hell to save Bender. The way that they get to Robot Hell is by falling through a trap door in an abandoned amusement park and sliding down a long slide. I was thinking about making the "Go to Robot Hell" space on the Futuropoly board have something to do with the amusement park, then I can add a slide (not "Chutes and Ladders" style) across the middle of the board that goes to Robot Hell.

What are some other things that could be tied together like that? Or what are some different properties that could be tied to the properties we already have? I'm not fixed on the properties yet. I'd be willing to replace one of the existing spaces with something that fit better.

In the episode of futurama i just watched( the one where fry and amy date, then fry's head gets attachted to her shoulder) al gore is on the $500, but his head is not in a jar, its just a shot from his shoulders and up.

I hope it is not too late to put my two cents in.

1. Maybe instead of "Just Sinning" it is "Just Dealmaking." This would follow very nicely with Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings.

2. Make one of the cheap properties New Jersey. There are quite a few jokes about it in Fututrama and therefore I believe it deserves a place on the board. The Crimes of Hot picture of it would be perfect. On the other hand, expecting someone to be willing to buy New Jersey seems a little unrealistic...and for more than the price of a candy bar!  :laff:.

Great job, I hope you haven't abandoned the project, I really want to play it!

Yeah, I'd like to see this project completed. I put in a lot of input a while back (a good year ago a least) when Chump was trying to do it, and I'd still really like to play it!

I like "Just Sinning" better though :P

That stuff looks FANTASTIC, jaredmellentine.

Just a couple of little nitpicks:

1. Can we have DOOP Headquarters rather than Doop Headquarters? It's an acronym, after all.

2. Cookieville Minimum Security Orphanarium?

3. And it's "diarrhoea", not "diarrhea".

But it looks AMAZING, well done!

I agree with Kazzahdrane, I think that "Just Sinning" is better. If you look at the list of characters, I don't think "Just Dealmaking" applies to anyone but Bender.

I'm still not quite sure what I want to do with the board. I do like all of the properties, however. I plan on keeping them the same as I have, unless there's an urgent reason to change them.

Okay... I guess I had a couple mistakes.

1. I'll have to check, but I think I used "DOOP" on the actual card. If not, it's an easy change.

2. I can change that if no one else has a problem with it. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

3. Diarrhea is an alternate spelling and, in my opinion, is much easier to read.

Alright, I guess everyone is about ready for this project to be done, right?

Good. Then I need some help.  :)

I don't have every episode, every place, and every character memorized, but together we have a wealth of knowledge.

I'm nearing completion of this project. I'm going to try to list from memory the things that I still need to do.

1. The board needs to be completed. I haven't even started work on the board. As I've mentioned before, I'd like the board to have some character to it. I'm not sure exactly what I mean by that, but I want the Futuropoly board to be somewhere between the "plain old Monopoly" board and the Simpsons monopoly board. So here's the help I need. I need lots of brainstorming on ways that I can make this board unique. They can be little things like fonts or symbols, or they could be big things like how to design the center of the board.

2. I need help with the descriptions of properties. You can use the examples from my Futuropoly site. Each property has to have its own description. The properties that I still need help with are:
- Little Neptune
- Past-O-Rama
- Cookieville Orphanarium
- Dinkin' Donuts
- O'Zorgnax's Pub
- Luna Park
- Famous Original Ray's Superior Court
- Applied Cryogenics
- Academy of Inventors
- Alien Overlord and Taylor
- The Hip Joint
- Madison Cube Garden
- Elzar's Fine Cuisine
- Robot Arms Apartments
- Historic (Square Root) 66 Truck Stop
- South Street Space Port
- Malfunctioning Eddie's Car Emporium

I can't remember now if I got a few of those done since I posted that. I'll have to check. In the meantime, you can still post your descriptions.

3. I need pictures for all of the property cards for the transits (railroads). I might end up doing this myself because I'll probably just do some scan art. If you have any ideas, I'll take those.

Okay. I think that's it. I think I've solved the problem with the game pieces. I'm buying a set of popouts that look like this. I'll find a way to get them out to everyone that wants the game. That should cover all the gamepieces, unless you wanted to use Kif, Zapp, Scruffy, etc. Those won't be included and you'll have to find a way to make they yourself.

One more thing, I'm keeping all the images with layers in .psd format (for those of you with Adobe Photoshop) so that any changes that you want can be made for your own version.

If you have no idea what I was talking about, I'll also be making .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) files for those of you that just want to print what I made. I'm not really sure about how I want to distribute this. I guess the easiest way would be to mail them out on cds, but that would require B+P (blanks and postage... you send me a blank cd and a prepaid envelope, I send it back with the game). I have some webspace too, so I guess I could post it there if I have to.

Alright. I think that's it for now. I'll make sure I didn't miss anything as far as tasks required to complete the game.

Thanks in advance for your help!!  :)

Using webspace would probably make the most sense. The files shouldn't be huge, certainly not if you stick a few cards to a page, and just tell people to print them onto thin card.

Hmmm. If I'm only gonna be putting the files on my website (as opposed to other methods), I'm more inclined to only upload the .pdf files. They're a lot smaller than uploading all of the .psd files. I guess I'll just do B+P for people that want to tweak the files using the .psd files.
