Hey, first time poster long time reader. I also just received my series 9 Toynami figures and am very pleased with them. Honestly, URL was not one of my top picks but turned out great. He is very sturdy and surprisingly tall. The light baton fights perfectly in his hand (something Toynami has obviously addressed from the initial figures) but his helmet does not come off.

Wooden bender is something I have wanted for a long time and he looks awesome! I agree it was difficult at first to have him stand, partially because his feet are not solid but cupped. I used the old hot water technique that I have had to apply to several figures in the line (the professor and Roberto to name 2). The dexterity of the figures are limited as should be expected but when they look this cool who cares. Probably my favourite Bender, which says a lot since there are six.

All in all, I can't wait for series 10 (still no word pre-order available) and hopefully Scruffy after that.

Welcome, and thanks for the mini-review of the new figures!

Mine have been stuck in the USPS's Thanksgiving black hole, but hoping to receive them this week.

Speaking of Benders and main character variants, I'm just catching up on the new Futurama episodes (yes, I'm slooow). Watching A Clockwork Origin, Robot Farnsworth caught my eye.

There are a ton of characters I'd like made first, but since main character variants are often a fact of life with figure lines, if we had to get another one, I wouldn't object to a Robot Farnsworth.

He's certainly the only Farnsworth variant I can think of. Are there any other good ones? I'd still like an SDCC set of alternate universe Amy, Hermes and Farnsworth...

Robot Farsnworth would be really cool. I hope they have more exclusives at somepoint, that would be a good way to release some of the fan favourites that may not sell as well with the general populace.

Ya, since we didn't get an SCCD exclusive this year for the figures, I hope there's something next year. They also had a Wizard one years ago (the blue Zoidberg).

The other thing I'd really like to see Toynami try is some box sets, which would be a good way to tackle groups of figures like Donbot, Joey and Clamps. That one would sell like hotcakes I'm sure.

Well, my new figures arrived and I am pleased.  :p

For Wooden Bender, not sure if it's been mentioned yet but his chest door opens and head comes off like the regular Bender. The elbow and knee joints aren't real joints, but this has been flagged and I'm not surprised as we haven't had much articulation with these figures. Since his legs aren't bendy, he's a little harder to get to stand, but I just played with turning them and he's solid enough. He's a nice figure - a very different Bender, yet still Bender.

URL is a great addition as I like bots and he's a cool one. Again no articulation with him, though his legs swivel at the base so can adjust his stability and his wrists turn, which largely serves to change the angle on the sword. One complaint would be that his sword arm is permanently posed to hold the sword and his hand locked in a circle, so as such he really doesn't look good without the sword. I'd have rather had a more articulated arm with soft bendy hands that can hold a sword but look good without (or an extra regular arm like Robot Santa). But he looks good with the sword, so I'm not overly bothered by it.

In the end of the day, gripes with this line would be consistent around lack of articulation and accessories, and that's again true here. But considering that this line has felt like it's future has been in doubt, I don't really mind the cutting corners or lack of embellishments if it's meant more figures. So I'm certainly happy to have these latest additions as they are, rather than not having them at all.

Looking forward to Morbo and Lrrr, as well as hopefully news of more new figures come February at New York Toyfair...

I'm glad you guys are excited about the URL and Wooden Bender.  I pushed hard to continue the Build-a-Bot series, but I wanted to do a lot of robot characters as regular figures.  Also the Morbo and Lrrr are slated to be released as Deluxe boxed figures due to their size.  Yes Lrrr is huge!! As you all know.  Haha.

I can't give you any dates or anything like that (i'm just the sculptor), but I'm a HUGE fan of the show and I'm really enjoying reading all of your suggestions and inputs!!

Thanks Guys and Girls!

Otto, just noticed your name on the bottom of the figure boxes - very cool!

Time for a review;
Other things I think I'm seeing in the picture, in decreasing order of certainty
-Bender's door seems to be openable again
-Looks like We'll be able to swap Wooden's head with those of the other (non-gold) Benders and if so, unlike Chef, Nixon should fit.
-I suspect URL's head is also swappable (but not with Nixon, sadly)
-Does anyone else think URL's helmet will be removable? That is where his exhaust comes from.
Seems most of my predictions were right, Bender's door is built to open (although mine seems to be jammed) and the heads are somewhat interchangeable (although Wooden has a smaller head-pin than the other Benders, and URL's is a little smaller than that) URL and WB look pretty good with each others  bodies, even if WB's neck is showing. Sadly there doesn't seem to be a hidden exhaust vent in URL's non-removable helmet. Also as someone pointed out at The Infosphere this Bender's eye socket is incompatible with the other Benders.

All in all, this is one of the best series we've had, featuring the best Bender variant, even if he is harder to stand up than most of the other figures in the line and a really awesome URL.

Hello!  I'm new to the boards here,  jabalong pointed me to this forum!  Happy to find a community of Futurama fans I can interact with.  I'm a big fan of the show and a real big fan of the action figure line by Toynami!  I have all the main releases so far, they're great!

I posted this a week or so back at a different forum and I thought I'd share it here as my first post (Jabalong was nice enough to link it before but here it is for those who may have missed it):
I clicked over to Toynami and sent them an email about the line. I wrote how much I liked their Futurama figures and asked if they plan any re-releases (like Zoidberg for those who missed him) and also wrote that I hope the line continues.
They responded very quickly (the next afternoon) and said that they hope to add more to their Encore edition figures, but don't have anything locked into place. They also added that they want the line to continue for as long as possible.
I was happy to see them email me back so quick and although nothing is a for sure, I hope their plans go as wanted.

--Thanks for reading!

The prices for series one and all exclusives prior to the Santa Series are huge inhibitors for any new collectors. I recently started collecting all the figures (I should receive my final shipment next week) and lucked out in finding someone who was selling their collection for a reasonable price. All I needed was Glorious Golden Bender, series 8 and up, and alternative universe Fry & Leela. However, I'm not sure if I would have bought the entire Robot Santa BAF wave if I knew I wasn't able to collect them all. (Nudar...he will be at the back of my collection.)

If Toynami offered re-releases of some earlier figures and released robot devil on his own, more people might be inclined to begin a collection. They of course would have to make variant packaging to ensure all the collectors have a distinguishing factor on their original items.

I'm super glad to hear positive feedback from Toynami, I would imagine the new tv shows would increase fan demand for figures.

If Otto is still reading our comments, please pass along my desire for Scruffy  :D

I have not posted on Peel for a while for various reasons, but in the words of Bender - Im back baby! What great new figures from Toynami, got URL last week, ace figure and a nice addition to the ever growing collection.  :D So we now have Otto posting, this is great to know that a Toynami employee is on our thread (welcome to Otto, great work and may it continue in 2011 btw). Mega excited for Morbo and Lrr, with these being large deluxe figures and with no build a bot going forward can we hope for more accs?? Ie - Lrr with a tub of popplers or Morbo with a tube of vein cream ala kidrobot accs?  ;)

Michael Crawford has just reviewed URL and Wooden Bender, with his usual thoroughness and nice pictures (including the one below). Though these two weren't at the top of his list of characters to make, his review overall is very positive. Seems like everyone is pretty happy with these all things considered.

Next stop, Morbo and Lrrr - woohoo! Hopefully, these will show up soon for pre-order as a concrete sign that the wheels are in motion. It's also now just about T-minus 10 weeks until ToyFair in New York starting 15 February. It would be great to get an announcement of new figures then and, dare we hope, some new prototypes.

Glad you made it Gonzo and good to see you back Hobo - the more, the merrier the discussion!

 :p

PS: Though I've got all the figures to date, I wholeheartedly agree with the calls here for reissues of core figures as needed. Every collector of the line has got to be able to get their hands on the complete Planet Express crew, so it's time to reissue Zoidberg.

What are some of the accessories everyone would like to see?

Some ideas....

For Morbo: A kitten (what he eats)
??? not sure what else

For Lrr: def a tub of popplers
The laser gun he destroys McNeal with (Toynami does like to do weapons)
A human horn (nose)

I would guess only one (if any) accessory per figure. Although, as they are deluxe figures who knows?

Accessories for Morbo... How about co-anchor Linda van Schoonhoven? If he's going to be a "Deluxe" figure, maybe we haven't been thinking big enough. For Mezco's "deluxe" Family Guy product, some were multipacks (like Peter vs the Chicken).

So if Morbo is going to be a deluxe figure at a deluxe price, then pair him up with a Linda figure. There's pretty much no chance she'd ever be released as a standalone figure, but add her to a Morbo deluxe box and that'd be some real added value.

Quote from: Michael Crawford
link... The arms have cut shoulders, and there are cut wrists. Both figures also have cut joints at the top of the legs, and Bender adds cut ankles.

Really? It doesn't look like WBender's wrists or ankles move.

Nope, Bender's wrists and ankles don't rotate. URL's wrists do rotate though and both figures' legs rotate at the top/pelvis.

^ I second both of those wishes.

Also, Hedonism bot is a big fav but not sure he would be a single package character. And Clamps or all the mafia bots in a box set, sorta like Jabalong suggested.

P.S. I was checking BBTS to see if the pre-order for S10 was up and noticed Wooden Bender has sold out. I'll take that as a good sign! Oh, and what online site normally has the pre-orders up first?

Wow, it barely took two weeks for Wooden Bender to sell out at BBTS? It's no wonder that we've had six versions of Bender already. Bender sells. That said, I hope they give Bender variants a rest for awhile.

Besides getting alternate universe versions of Amy, Hermes and Farnsworth, say as an SDDC exclusive three-pack, if we had to have another main cast variant, Zoidberg would seem like an obvious choice.

We've had three of him so far and judging by the prices on the secondary market they've been very popular. Though I'd rather have new characters made before more variants, I'd be down for a Jesus Zoidberg in this pose:

Good to know Apexxx. I'm really hoping the new figures will be up for pre-order soon. I might be a little delusional though considering the track record for release with this line.

Why not Zoidberg...variants. All the Toynami Zoidbergs sell for top dollars on Ebay, Zoidberg is really popular and would sell well.

Everytime I look at the Jesus Zoidberg pic I laugh, what episode is that from?

Yeah I've been trying to push Scruffy in for a while now.  But a lot of other people (FOX) has their opinions too haha! I wish I could let you guys know more of whats coming up, but you'll more than likely be seeing Series 10 and 11 at Toyfare this year.  I think you guys will be very pleased!! I'm excited for them too.  I love all your guys ideas for accessories, which is always a tough thing to come up with for me, so I really appreciate all the ideas! Thanks guys and girls!

Thanks for stopping by again, that's great news about a Series 11! Just like the show's rebirth, it's starting to feel like this toy line is catching a second wind - I'm excited to see what 2011 brings.

Keep pushing Scruffy - he seems to be an overwhelming top-of-the-wishlists pick around here and on other boards. If there's any doubt about his appeal beyond hardcore fans, maybe he'd make a good choice for a convention exclusive?

Your comment about the studio got me curious. Generally speaking, how do figure choices come about? Is it case of both sides suggesting ideas then negotiating some consensus and/or is figure selection more a result of one side than the other?

If you're looking for more accessory ideas, in the absence of a BAF, how about including a new head in jar with every figure? Or if not, how about a boxed set of say 10 heads in jars with a two-row display rack? Lots of possibilities for multi-figure box sets, maybe you can whisper this into someone's ear...

 ;)

Thats a good question.  The Fox staff we work with are very big fans too and so are we.  So it usually comes down to who we think would be the coolest! And of course how major of a character it is and so on.  It was a little weird during the off time when the movies were being released with some new ideas for new characters appearing in the movies.  But other than that I have my favorites and ones I would like to see, but we take into account the fans ideas and Fox's ideas.  So , theres not really any set way.  Series 10 and 11 was one set I wanted to do a couple years ago and I'm excited to finally see them.

And yes we get more emails for Scruffy than anyone else.  We GOTTA finish out the full Planet Express team! I'll keep him on the top of the list.  And a Zero-G-Jugs magazine would have to be a must have accessory for him haha! Thanks for the idea apexxx!!!

Hmmm, a "set"?

One thought is that maybe Morbo and Lrrr aren't in the same series. In which case, a set could be one series of Morbo and his co-anchor Linda. But the only person I can think of to go with Lrrr would be his wife Ndnd (talk about two huge figures!).

Or if Morbo and Lrrr are still together as Series 10, then maybe Series 11 is the set with two figures that go together, though I can't think of an obvious pair off the top of my head.

Or maybe we're taking "set" too literally...

Don't need another Bender for awhile, but if/when there is another variant, was just reminded of one I wouldn't mind having.

Watching The Late Phillip J Fry recently, his promiscuous ladybot that he drills at the beginning of the episode got me thinking again how a fembot figure would be cool.

While I like the look of this ladybot a bit better, this got me thinking again about the pimped-out Bender and his groupie ladybots from Raging Bender.

I'd be down for a figure of this Bender if he came with at least one ladybot (or else why bother), the gold rings on his fingers and how about him chomping on a cigar.

If there's one disappointment with all the Benders we've had is that not one has a cigar. Thought maybe this was due to political correctness, there was a metal Bender toy years back that had one, so why not a figure.

Another option would be to have him holding a cigar (or even swappable hands - one regular and one cigar holding), but I think him chomping greedily on one is best.

While we're at it, the other thing I've regretted not having with Bender, particularly with all the sets of eyes so far, is a pair of his pop-out eyes where they extend far in front of his face like a zoom lens (couldn't find a pic).

I know it seems unlikely, but maybe Lrrr and Morbo are deluxe figures and not part of series 10 or 11.  That could mean four new figures.  Maybe?
I remember pictures of a Toynami talking Bender that was bigger than the regular line.  Maybe those three would be released at the same time.
 These are just Out-of-the-box thoughts.
As for sets of characters, maybe Mom's sons?  I know there are three, maybe two in one pack then one with Hypnotoad?  That'd be great but unlikely.  Them before Scruffy is a bit odd too.
I think Elzar would be good, especially with Chef Bender.  Cubert would make sense too.  I'd enjoy seeing Smitty (the other cop) but I don't think we'll see him.  I, too, would like to see some more heads in jars.  How about Matt Groening's head?

Jabalong, I LOVE the idea of pop-out eyes for Bender!  That would be excellent, along with a cigar.  Maybe we could see those eyes, and a few other new ones, with a Flexo?  Flexo would be best as an exclusive of course, but if he came with new eyes and a head in a jar or Hypnotoad- then I'd be fine with him in the main line.

Those are all good ones that would tie in nicely with the existing figures. There's one thing for sure - there is no shortage of great characters! This line could go on and on...

For the heads in jars, Matt Groenig would be my first choice too, David Cohen too. Others that I thought of were Al Gore with his cape thingey and some of the Star Trek actors. Check out this post of mine from awhile back for photos. Man, I'd love to have a whole rack of heads in jars - that would be sweet.

Here's a nice shot of a bunch of them, though really there have been tons more...

And now for something completely different...

I've seen Dave Au's great sketch of a Hellboy-Futurama mash-up:

But though it's a couple of years old, I'm not sure I ever saw his great "Hellbender" custom figure, using a regular Toynami Bender and parts from a Mezco Hellboy figure:

These figures will never get made, but they'd be so cool - love the Zoidberg too.
