Guys, I have had a nice little exchange with the good folks in "customer care" at Toynami.

Here's are some questions I had asked them in February:

1) Is the plan to have Hermes/Mom and Farnsworth/Chef Bender form a four-figure set with build-a-figure Roberto or will there be another two figures to come within the usual six figures?

2) Will the two versions of Mom be a single figure - ie, thin version with a removable fat suit? Hope so, as that would make for a very cool figure, rather than separate figures.

3) How is the overall health of the product line and are we likely to see it continue? So far it's been great, and with the Planet Express crew almost done, let's see some aliens like Morbo.

And here is their reply earlier a few weeks ago:

Quote
Thank you for your interest and support in our Futurama products! The Futurama line has exceed all of our wildest expectations and we are thrilled with the response and encouragement from fans and collectors like yourself.

In regards to question #1, it will be a Roberto build-a-bot.

#2, Will be a thin version with a removable fat suit.

We plan on releasing the new four figures + the Roberto build a bot this year and if all continues to go well we will continue the line in 2010.

Thanks for your support!

Of interest to me here is the confirmation that it will in fact be a four-figure series down from six previously, which wasn't exactly clear previously, and that Mom is a thin figure with a fat suit, which was already confirmed.

Not sure whether the move from six to four figures is a positive, neutral or negative development, but the tone of the response was certainly upbeat and it's good to hear that Toynami is pleased with the progress of the line.

So let's all support this new four-figure series this year in the hopes of more to come in 2010!

Does anyone know for sure if there are plans for Toynami to re-release the Series 1 Fry and Zoidberg figures?  I've tried contacting them a few times with this question but I've never received a response.

Thanks for the info update on the figures, jabalong.  I'm sorry to hear they will be stopping down the amount of figures to four, and that one of those four is essentially a repaint (Chef Bender).  Some is better than none, so I'll take what I can get!  I hope this doesn't mean they'll be winding down the line, but at least it looks like the Planet Express crew will get finished.  I still want a Scruffy though.

It does feel a bit like the line could wind down, with the core Planet Express team being done and the series reduced to four figures. That said, I'm encouraged by the upbeat tone of the response. A key factor might be what happens next with Futurama in terms of new content. There are certainly some popular characters still to be made (Morbo comes to mind for me), so I'm remaining optimistic and will do my bit to support the line by buying the new ones this year.

Think I'm going through withdrawal, April feels like it's crawling along - it's sure been a long wait between waves, particularly with my BAF Robot Santa sitting unfinished all this time. C'mon, Amy and Clobberella, you must be getting close...

Heads up people; Entertainment Earth currently have Clobberella/Amy slated for June and have now added series 7 containing Hermes/Farnsworth and Nibbler for July

Thanks for the update, but sadly I wouldn't put much faith in these dates. Clobberella/Amy has been slipping month after month at most retail sites, though unless there's been some colossal screw-up, they are bound to come this month or next as it's been so very long since the last wave. As for Hermes/Farnsworth, July's been mentioned for awhile, which if the past is any precedent for Toynami, this date will slip. That said, since Clobberella/Amy has been delayed so long, it's quite possible its release will bunch up with Hermes/Farnsworth. All clear? Clear as mud. We'll get them when we get them is the only sure answer with this line.

Farnsworth and Hermes aren't even listed on forbidden planet. I suspect, therefore, that they may be some time.

FYI: The new "Encore Collection" Fry & Bender set is available for pre-order at Entertainment Earth. Neither of these figures come with build-a-bot parts. Also, a representative at Toynami informed that they currently have no plans to re-release the Wave 1 Zoidberg figure, which, of course, sucks for all us who missed it and don't have $100 to burn on eBay.

Here's a link with a tentative release schedule and what we can expect in the next couple of waves.

http://www.figures.com/databases/action.cgi?setup_file=fignews2.setup&category=actionfigures&topic=125&show_article=140

Santa will finally get his arms and his tommy gun. About time if you ask me!

After that we'll get the last two PE crew members with the first parts of Roberto. I wonder how he turned out. I hope he has that psychotic stare and that he comes with a stabbing knife! :D

Encore collection. Good idea / bad idea? I think collectors who didn't know of the Futurama line at first aren't going to start a collection with Nudar and Calculon. So it's nice people get another chance to pick up Fry and Bender.

Another encore series for 2010 could be Zoidberg and Zapp Brannigan.

I wonder if we'll see a San Diego Comic Con exclusive this year... :flirt:

Encore series?  What, did they find a bunch of back stock or something?  My vote is for bad idea, really bad idea.  Repaints are annoying enough, but understandable.  An Encore set when you only have two series is pretty lame.  I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope that they put out the figures they've announced so far.

The demand is there for the original Bender and Zoidberg, not sure about Fry. I've always thought wherever there is demand, toymakers should just keep putting out more stock, like Kenner/Hasbro has done for Star Wars figures with tweaks to the packaging to satisfy the collectors who want their original versions to remain distinctly identifiable.

About this "encore" deal, Bender has already been rereleased. I was at a store in March and they had it in stock - held it in my hands, same figure, but without the Robot Devil pieces. From what I remember the packaging was slightly different in that there was no reference to the Robot Devil. So don't know about this August date - Bender again plus fry? Anyway, my guy told me that he can sell as much Bender stuff as they can put out.

Turning to more important matters, at least for those of us lucky enough to have the earlier figures already, about these Figures.com dates:

Quote
Future Futurama figure assortments include (all release dates tentative and subject to change):

* Series 06 - Leela as Clobberella & Amy Wong - May/June (Include the final components needed to build the fiendishly jolly Robot Santa!)

* Series 07 - Hermes & Professor Farnsworth w/ Nibbler - July/August (First series in the new Roberto Build-A-Bot collection!)

* Encore Collection - Series 1's Phillip J. Fry & Bender - July/August (Do not include Build-A-Bot pieces.)

* Series 08 - Chef Bender & Mom w/ Attachable Dress - October (Roberto Build-A-Bot mania continues!)

I think we're bound to see Amy/Clobberella by this month or next, as it's been sooo long already. That said, if I were to scroll back through my earlier posts here, I probably said this already about April, March...*sigh*...oh well. But I have a good feeling this time.  :p

As for the other dates, in a perfect world they look reasonable, but we're talking about Toynami and Futurama here, so a reasonable schedule is hardly a given. Fortunately, these figures are worth the wait in my opinion.

I wonder if we'll see a San Diego Comic Con exclusive this year... :flirt:

Missed this. With such a backlog on the promised product already, I hadn't dared to dream this year about an SDCC exclusive. Also personally I was disappointed with last year's SDCC exclusive being a front-run version of the Santa build-a-bot (plus Xmas Bender I know, but as they were only available as a set that was extortion for those of us already patiently building our bot like good little customers). But if Toynami actually pulled something original out of its hat this year - available on its own - I'd be down for it. Last year we didn't find out until the first week of July, so there's plenty of time still.

And what about old Wizard? They had an exclusive years back and were raving about how pumped they were about the line, yet we never saw them do another exclusive. Dare we dream about two exclusives? An impossible dream perhaps.

Even a Universe 1 re-paint of Fry or Leela, or both would be awesome for this years SDCC exclusive dont you think?  :flirt:

Yeah, I think you're right about last year's exclusive. The Santa Bender two-pack is the only thing I haven't bought from Toynami's Futurama line. I'd like a new exclusive this year, but only if they can come out with something good.

Barring anything else, sure I'd be down for Universe 1 variants. They'd be so easy to do, especially Fry considering Toynami's apparently doing another run of the original version, so they could just tack on the exclusive version with different paints. Actually, same goes for Amy as she's presumably already been manufactured.

To refresh everyone's minds, here's what the Universe 1 versions from  looked like from “The Farnsworth Parabox” episode.

On a slightly more realistic note, the folks at Toynami are aware of us here at Peelified, so let's hope they're checking up on this thread now and again.

I wouldn't worry about that - check out the views, this thread's at more than 4,300 and counting. Blows away any of the other threads in the PE stockroom and I'd imagine it'd be up there among all the active threads on this board.

There's also a Futurama toys thread over at Creatus Maximus, which I'm active on as well. That one's at nearly 6,300 views now, which at a quick glance trails only Hasbro Star Wars among active threads there.

So there's definitely interest in these Toynami Futurama toys, even if the number of people actually jumping in on the conversation isn't so huge. Keep the faith!

While we wait for the regular figures, there's reason to think we'll see another exclusive this summer. While there's no indication what the source is, there's a list going around of what exclusives will be at Comic-Con 2009 and it includes "Toynami - Futurama". Fingers crossed...

Chances are it'll be something they can mould in one piece, so hypnotoad, a gelatinous blob, space bee, nibbler in a different costume... though I wouldn't mind Nibbler with his dinky little space-ship, that'd be fun. :D

That would be sweet, and they could maybe use the little alien moulds from the m.a.c planet express ship as they will own those moulds, and put them out with Nibbler also, you know, the two little creatures and the little crate from the episode that they found Nibbler?  ;) Anyone know the 1s i mean??  :hmpf:

Yup, it's certainly not bad news for the line. In an exchange I had with someone from Toynami, they said they were still excited by the line, going to see what happens with this year (ie, with the Roberto series) and take it from there. So hopefully Futurama being back on the air next year will give Toynami the impetus to keep the line going in 2010.
