We now have an official synopsis of 'Futurama Comics #21' from Forbidden Planet International. There should be a cover art picture in the new Previews catalogue which came out yesterday so if somebody with a scanner out there would be so kind as to post a scan of that here, I think we'd all be grateful. Anyway here's the synopsis:

Futurama Comics #21
by Rogers and Delaney
Contents
Fry takes his first trip to the dentist in over one thousand years and discovers that his dental fillings are receiving a sub space from an unknown alien race. But their friendly entreaties for peace soon turn to a declaration of war after Fry begins grinding his teeth in his sleep.

This will be released in September 2005.

Interesting, but wouldn't the Parasites from 'Parasites Lost' have sorted his teeth out all good and proper anyway? So it'd be more like his first trip to the dentist in a few years, not over 1000...

Thanx for the info though, much appreciated...

At least we know when it's going to come out!  Plus, it would've been cool to see an episode where Fry does go to the dentist.

In my neck of the woods, the new comics probably won't be out until early or late October.

I've seen the cover, I think it looks really good! It's the view from inside Fry's mouth and Leela, Bender, Amy and Hermes are looking in.
Unfortuently, my scanner broke and hasn't been fixed for a hell of a long time now!!

The story sounds like it's going to be good too, but I'm just worried about the artwork...

Yeah, shame they couldn't focus on such other interesting stuff too. Maybe an episode where Fry goes to watch a ballet recital or maybe even an entire episode about a slow day at fishing.

Well, hell, I'd kill just to see one of those episodes now...

I hope that was sarcasm. Personally I think it sounds a bit dull but... thats just me. I think in our desperation for new Futurama stuff that people have lost sight of quality.

M Jackson, dude, when you say things like John Delaney can't draw you sound ridiculous. The guy has been drawing comics for years Check out his interview at: http://members.cox.net/futurama/BongoPreview.html#DelaneyInterview
He's done books in multitudes of styles not to mention he's worked for both Bongo & DC and on tons & tons of different characters. You may not like his way of drawing but to say he cannot draw is just not born out by the facts. Did you see his Carl Barks tribute stuff in Simpsons #102? It's brilliant! His storytelling in Futurama is amazing. The pages flow from panel to panel. His backgrounds are never skimped upon and while I will admit that there was times early on when I agreed with you and thought his Fry needed some work he has improved on his drawing of the character by leaps and bounds since his first issue. You obviously have a prejudice against the guy and it seems nothing he does will be good enough for you. Let it go and try noticing all the good stuff he does as opposed to the same refrain you like to use everytime it's mentioned that he's doing the art.

I know i do sound like i have some deep hatred for John Delany. i don't, it's just that i strongly feel that he is not good enough at drawing futurama characters. I'll confess that im not familiar with his work for other comics. if you say it's good i'll take your word for it. good luck to him.

I can draw. i've been drawing all my life, and i have a double A-level in Art and design. but i know that Matt Groenings style is suprisingly difficult to replicate. his characters are deceptively simple. but even the slightest difference and they look freaky and just plain wrong. i'm not even claiming to be able to fraw his characters properly. it has nothing to do with skill or talent in other areas of drawing. his charcters are just unique. and you can either draw them or you can't. and i'm afraid that i think that john delany just isn't one of the girfted few who can draw them! look at James Lloyds flawless artwork. THATS should be the standard for Bongo comics! I just frustrates me that nobody politely puts thier hand on his shoulder and quietly whispers into his ear "look john, uh....it's just not working out ok. we'll get somebody else. but thanks for all your hard work. don't call us, we'll call you."

I think it's the kind thing to do. clearly nobody at Bongo has the guts to tell him his style isn't right for Futurama comics! Just like H.R Gieger (brilliant in his own style) isn't right to draw disney characters! It would scare the kids and people would complain!

Wow! You're really convinced of your own rightness. Could it not be possible that the people at Bongo don't feel the same as you?
Do you think Delaney has some ability to fool or somehow blackmail the very people who put out this book? You really think that if Bongo felt like you do they would just continue to let John Delaney work on their book and not as you say "politely put thier hand on his shoulder and quietly whisper into his ear "look john, uh....it's just not working out ok. we'll get somebody else. but thanks for all your hard work. don't call us, we'll call you.""

Dude wake up! If Bongo didn't like his work they wouldn't use him. Period. I also can draw. I've been instructing art for over ten years and while I also love James Lloyd's stuff, I can honestly say there are things about it that I feel aren't as good as Delaney's while there are other things Lloyd does that are far better than Delaney. You're saying you're a double A-level artist and you don't see this? I've seen model problems with Tom King's stuff as well but I don't see you railing on him. It seems like you got a bad first impression of Delaney's stuff and that has colored your way of thinking ever since.
Man I hope if any of your work gets published the people seeing it will at least try to be objective when viewing it.

I believe the Futurama issues in the UK are the same as the ones in North America but they are cut in half or thirds and stretched over two or sometimes three issues. Hence the cover of the UK issue #21 showing the Planet X-Pressmen. The UK issues are presented more like a North American "Comic Digest" except they are bigger and are printed on really nice paper so the colors are very vibrant and the over all quality looks better. They also often have other features like games, crosswords, more fan art ect. that the North American issues do not.

Isn't the reason that they are stretched over more issues, because they appear every month in the UK?!

EDIT: Also the UK futurama comics usually have couple of pages of fan art and letters but not much else I don't think

Is that a mistake by Jon, cause it's Fry's mouth, isn't it?

Nothing official, but Futurama comics are usually released on the last Wednesday of the month, so Sept. 28th is probably the best guess for a release date.

Actually, #21 is not on the release list for the 28th.  It will probably slip a week or two, but I doubt that it has anything to due with the weather.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Shippy!! Leela instigated Shippy!

And how freaking adorable does she look with her hair like this?

I'm so disappointed they never had her hair like this in the show!

What was really funny to me about her hair, they couldn't seem to decide how thick it should be so it varies from panel to panel.

I got it!!
It's goooood!
Venus, you're right Leela's hair does look adorable that way.
Eric Rogers really gets these characters, they speak exactly like the TV show.
Case in point Page 4 panel 4- Bender walks into the middle of a conversation between Zoidberg & Fry and interrupts with "Yeah yeah Blah blah, Fry's a doofus, Zoidberg's hungry and Bender's great..." Classic

There's only one word to describe the story of issue #21: excellent!  It kept me laughing from beginning to end!  I just got it today!  Even Zapp Branigan was cool in it!  I was very happy with the story, I especially liked how Fry and Leela got captured by those aliens and Bender tells Leela when Fry dies, he's taking him home, and Leela thinks it's sweet, then Bender says, he just wants Fry's fillings!   Classic!

The next issue will be out maybe December I think.
