I've got all four seasons on DVD and have just finished season 2 - I'm watching each episode followed by the same episode with commentary.

It's all great stuff but I'm puzzled as to why none of the commentaries have yet said a single word about Katey Sagal - how she was cast, how she fit it with the crew,  what she thought of the shows, etc etc etc...

Was there some big falling out between her and the production team or something?

Or do I need to wait until season 4 before they get round to talking about her?  ;)

Sorry to dissapoint but Katey hasn't done any audio commentaries for Futurama.  I think there was a thread about this before as to the reasoning but I think it just had something to do with schedule conflicts or something.  As far as I know she holds no ill will towards Futurama and never had.

And welcome to PEEL Robbie!  Enjoy your stay!

I appreciate that Katey herself was probably not able to do any commentaries but I was surprised that none of the people doing the commentaries have mentioned her so far...

They made a few references on the commentary for TDHAIP, but she never did a commentary. Too bad--I would've loved to see her thoughts on the Leela-themed episodes.

Welcome to PEEL robbie!  :)

This should answer any of your question. It's kinda old, but I think it will do and it's made by one of my favorite peelers ever  :D  Since a thread like this was already made, yours will probably be closed down, but don't take it personally. Once again, WELCOME TO PEEL! Enjoy your stay at Nerd World.    :)

I don't want to keep making the same point over and over again, but my question is a different one from the one on that thread: why does no-one on the DVD commentaries ever talk about Katey Sagal?

She's been mentioned a few times. Usually by the other voice actors. Billy made a quip about 'falling in love with her during the recording of Leela's Homeworld'

I've heard that she's not exactly in love with Futurama. She doesn't feel strongly about it one way or another and has said that she "doesn't get the show".

If DVD commentary is anything like Family Guy's, you have to record them for free. She probably didn't feel commited enough to fly to some studio to do a free voice over for a cancelled show.

Hmm now that part I didn't know.  I knew she wasn't a hardcore fan like us but I thought she felt a bit stronger for it than what she does.  Oh well, you learn something new everyday.

They've mentioned her a couple of times. They did praise her voice as Lee Lemon in "War Is The H-Word" and they were litterally in awe of her singing voice in "Hell Is Other Robots". Billy West mentions a few times how great he thinks Katey Sagal is. It's just that Katey only do Leela, and as brilliant as she is at that job there is more to commend on guys like Dave Herman, Billy West and Maurice LaMarche who is doing a multitude of characters, each with a distinct and different voice.

She got the role the traditional way: her agent asked if she was interested doing an audition, she said "Sure!", the agent set it up and she got the role. Besides you could ask those questions about any of the voice cast who didin't do any commentaries: Dave Herman, Frank Welker, Lauren Tom, Phil Lamarr, etc. Lauren Tom wasn't mentioned much either, Phil Lamarr hardly at all. It probably have something to do with the way the commentary sessions are done; there are no scripts, no pre-determined issues that need brought up during the episode, people just say whatever pops into their mind.

Not to our knowledge. As far as I know they all parted on good terms.

Not what I've heard, she have mentioned Futurama several times while on tv, urging people to watch the show. This thread is about one of those times, on FOX no less.

In this Starlog interview from mid-season 2 (part 2 of the interview) she seems pretty impressed by the show, say she likes all the episodes so far and is particular fond of the character Leela.

Or maybe she's just been to busy being a single parent, working on "8 Simple Rules...", various movies, etc.

They mentioned on the commentary for TDHAIP that they had a lot of trouble getting hold of her to to do some final ADR for Leela due to her work commitments for the live TV show she was working on then, I think they mentioned it took 6 months.

If it was that difficult for her to find time to voice a few final lines for her character then how much more difficult must it have been for her to find time to do the audio commentaries?

Thats my take on it anyhow.

when i look on the webpages advertising this, i only see one commentary, yet people here are saying there are five (one for three of them, two for one).

Which is it?

In the commentary for "Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles", Billy West said something about getting along really well with Katey, but that's about all I've heard.
