Learning from their site, the BBFC is the British Board of Film Classification.  And yes, the lengths of time posted right there seem to be how long each individual episode intro is.  All combined, it comes out to be about 3 minutes of intros.

In addition, there's also an intro for the disc itself listed that is 1m 36s long, and the HIOR animatic+commentary that is 24m 56s.  Doing a quick search on their site shows you this.

One thing that caught my eye was the fact that Billy West, John DiMaggio, and Katey Sagal are all listed as being part of each of these, even the disc and episode intros.  This probably doesn't mean anything, for all I know they could just repeat the same names for convenience purposes.  But if not, it looks like Katey Sagal will be part of the intros too.  That would be a first.   :o  (but still, I'm doubtful.)

British Board of Film Classification. The film censors, in other words. Every work released on VHS/DVD has to be classified by the censors before it can be released here. Their website is a useful source of information on forthcoming releases.

Okay. Not the American one. Gotcha. Anyway, thanks for the research waffy. (Welcome to PEEL. Enjoy Your Stay At Nerd-World.) That's cool to hear that Katey might be doing something for a DVD.

An intro by her would be cool. A full-length commentary even better.

Just let it be released in a timely fashion!

Do these marketing morons really think the product will sell better at the end of the summer, when all the kids are going back to school, and have had an entire summer to spend money?

Geniuses, I tell ya.

Speaking of dummy marketing, has anyone heard of the ridiculous saga involving fiona apple and her new album?

Well, basically, she finished the album in may 2003, and the record co shelved it, and wont even admit it.

The truth as stated above came from the mouth of the album's producer, Jon Brion (also did soundtracks for Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, magnolia, punch drunk love, and I heart Huckabees), who said publicly that this was all true.

of course the dummies didnt think they could market a single, so the best way to make money off of it: NOT SELL IT AT ALL!!

What are these people thinking, all of them?

I suspect it simply means that she's the voice actor in the animatics etc rather than being involved in the intro, etc. I hope I'm wrong.

I think the only interview with Katey thats been released is the one that originally came with the FOX media pack when the show was first aired?

I'm so excited about this. I hope I can get it for my birthday; it's released 5 days before. That's probably too late. Wahhhhh!!

I assume the cover art will be similar to the Season Sets in that they have various elements from the episodes combined on the cover.

^Well, you only assume  ;)

But really, I really hope Katey does at least 1 commentary for the DVD, and the cover art will be cool.

The cover art must be cool.

And I suspect it, like B_W, to combine elements from the four episodes.

COVER SPOILER ALERT ...

The cover art IS very cool. Think a giant Bender in the city with Fry, Leela and the Professor (in his Roswell zoot suit) running away from him in terror. Very nice, you will like.

MENUS SPOILER ALERT ...

As far as the menus go ... the Main Menu is a drive-in in space, the Scene Selections for each Episode are specially designed movie posters (treating each Episode as if it were a vintage, 50's sci-fi movie). Pretty cool stuff, too.

Oh, and, by the way ... never fear Region 1ers -- this DVD WILL hit the states. When is not yet known, but I'm guessing that it will before the year is over (and maybe not much later than the Region 2 version).

In the last version I saw, the cover art continues over the spine and onto the back where we see army men with guns.

So then I'm guessing the US release date isn't August anymore, but is still being decided?  And are there any sort of significant tidbits you know about the new commentaries/openings?

Thanks for all the info, futufan.

I don't think so, futufan works at a place that works with this type of thing. That's how he knows. But if there were a picture online, I'm sure he'd show us  ;)

Doesn't gotfuturama.com say a tentative release date is August 23, 2005? (I know this means it can change, but is it now official that it will actually change?)

Well, CGEF says in an update:

"David X. Cohen tells me that the new US date is now tentatively set to August 23, 2005."

It specifically says that that's the US release date...  So, is the update no longer correct?  And if it IS still correct, when does it come out in Region 2 then?

I'm getting really confused.   :(

I'd say the update is wrong. 2 thngs make me trust futufan more than the CGEF update.

1) You can pre-order the "Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection" at Amazon.co.uk, but not at Amazon.com

2) It's futufan! He work with the bloody thing.

Thanks for siding with me, Teral, but I'm not 100% sure that the August date is regarding the Region 2 dvd and not the Region 1 dvd after all. The reason I say this is because Fox super rushed us to get the Region 2 version out so they may actually be trying to get it out by the date that's listed at the UK amazon site (end of May). And that, of course, would leave the August date for Region 1. Time will tell ...

The CGEF update was specifically about region 1/US. Didn't say anything about the UK update because I didn't hear anything from Cohen about it. CGEF isn't the site for speculations (unless marked as such  :p ).

Now PEEL... Since the BBFC got the ratings done in early April, I'd say a release before August is likely. Possibly by the end of May. But again, I got no info on the UK release beyond what has already been posted in this thread.

As has been mentioned play.com have the only picture I've seen yet. According to them it's due for Region 2 release on the 30/5/05

 http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=611133&p=57&g=72&pa=sr

Edit: Hmm the artwork looks different from whats been mentioned. Maybe the cover art on the outer case is different from that of the DVD sleeve inside? Or maybe the Region 1 releases will have different artwork, although they havn't had before AFAIK.

In anycase I've ordered it so I guess I'll find out in a months time!

Interesting ... I've never seen that cover before. If that one's legit then it's completely slipped under my radar (which I guess is possible -- though I'd be shocked and disappointed since the one I saw was much cooler than that).
