The Comics: Why So Much Sexiness?

I was reading my new copy of Futurama Adventures last night, and a thought came to me. I'm not complaining by any means, but what's with all the cartoon sexuality? Some examples...

• Issue 4: Leela is seen on the cover in panties, and is nude in the issue.
• Issue 5: Leela and Amy in the shower.
• Issue 7: Leela is beamed to Old New York without her clothes on, and has to borrow a revealing leather outfit from a lapdancer.
• Issue 11: Leela strips naked and plays with animals.
• Issue 13: Leela is nude on the cover.
• Issue 17: Leela shows her bra.
• Futurama Adventures: The last page shows Leela in this outfit
  
  So, now that I've most likely wasted your time reading this and showed you how much attention I pay to one-eyed cartoon chicks taking their clothes off, you can all give your theories and stuff...

The reason most likely is because the majority of comic book artists are locked away for hours on end in tiny dark rooms, with just a lamp, and their drawing equipment, along with their wild imaginations. Often sex deprived, and with so much time on their hands drawing, they draw their fantasies instead...

And we were promised "more nudity" in the last season, so they're transferring that mantra into the comics.

I think I speak for myself and many MANY other when I say that I have absolutely no problem with all this sexual imagery.

Yeah. Leela nudity can make a bad issue worth reading (e.g. Issue 7), and a great issue even better (e.g. Issue 11).

I didn't know she was nude so much.  Are we talking full imagery here or like the cover of #13 where you can't see anything?

The show itself is somewhat sexy for a cartoon anyway - they're just trying to insert the same level into the comics, I suppose.

Yeah, it's just continuing the tradition of the show. Which was one big homage to the pulpy slightly trashy sci-fi of the 40s/50s. This is most obvious in the 2001 calendar, with each picture being based on a magazine cover from that era. When I actualy saw some of these genuine covers I was amazed at how acurate Futurama has got the tone and style of them.

So, nudity eh? It's all done pretty tastefully (especially the time Leela got naked with those squirrels!), and there's nothing remotely hardcore- not even a stray nipple, as as far as I've seen- so it fits in with the tone of the show pretty well. What I wan't to see is more Proffesor Farnsworth and Hermes nudity. Oh my yes!

My copy of issue 11 was so worn out that I actually had to get a new one.

So that's where you got that avatar from, leelaholic.

Maybe it's just me, but that drawing of Leela looks really off-model.  Almost as though she put on a few (ie, a lot) of poundage.  Maybe she just looks odd because the illustrator had to draw her weird to keep the naughty bits hidden.

The reason these pictures keep getting put in the comics is because it makes me a happy man. And Leelaholic keeps posting them, which makes it even better. I love this stuff!

They're probably doing more of what some of the writers wanted to do in the show but FOX wouldn't allow....

Oh, theres plenty of that as well, especially the professor, who always seems to be running in the nude.

I got the UK version of the comic, and the naked leela picture above appears FOUR times (In the comic, on the front, on the first page and on the back. The one on the front has a big yellow caption saying: "The naked truth - Leela goes back to nature". The previous issue had a trailer showing the lingerie rave and the caption "More sauce than Heinz".

No, it didn't. It was an AOI story, so it wasn't real.

I'd just like to know, why is Leela naked in issue 7? And I don't have issue 11 so that's kinda is a question too. But you all notice that the only nude person here is Leela. Except for issue 5.

Leela is naked in Issue 7 since she goes back to the past, and it's a Terminator parody.

Makes sense to me.
