Okay, to start off with - this is just a little idea I had a few days ago. I've been giving it a bit of thought, and I personally think it's rather cool, so I figured I might as well pitch it to everyone. I'm not sure if this has been done before throughout the Futurama Fan community, but still...

As you may know, many online communities have what is basically an internet magazine that they release. For example - I'm part of the South Park Gaming community, and we used to have a monthly magazine that came out in 2001, containing stuff like interviews, game demos, previews, reviews, cheats, articles, etc. regarding the community. It only actually lasted 7 issues, but the feedback was excellent.

Anyway, I'm thinking: What if a group of people got together and made an online magazine for the Futurama Fan community? Think about it, it could be a bi-monthly thing that people could download and view. Every issue would be approximately between 8-12 pages long (possibly even longer, if the first issues well), and could contain:
* Several pages dedicated to displaying new fan art.
* Perhaps a few snippets of new/upcoming fan fictions.
* A few small comics.
* Several previews of other new projects going on in the community.
* A couple of articles related to Futurama and Futurama fan material.
* Maybe even a few interviews with some of the more popular names, etc.

Like I said, this is just a small idea I had. Even if it does go ahead, there'd be issues like "Who'd be putting it together?" and "What format would it be in?", so as for now, it's just a basic pitch to everyone... Still, what do you all think?

That would be cool, but my only problem is that if Futurama is cancelled, information for it may run out quickly.

Well, the main focus of it would be on fan material. (eg. Fanart, Fan fiction, etc.)

Still, if there WAS any news regarding Futurama itself, I'm sure there'd be  section for it. Like, just say - IF the magazine did go ahead, and it was in progres during the 2004 emmys, and Futurama won an emmy, I'm sure there'd be a page or so dedicated to that.

Yeah. So I take it it would be an online magazine. (Either that or you have a heck of a lot of money...)

I'd help with it if it did get started. Sounds like a good idea to me.  :)

Uhh... How does this magazine differ from Futurama-related sites?

... good point.

Honestly, they seem similar to me. Mighty similar...

Well, it'd mainly be a look at what's been going on in the past month-or-so in Futurama's fan base. Unlike websites, which get updated with material every day, this more or less filters through the bulk of Futurama fan material to bring readers the big news.

Rather than going through lots of updates & various websites to find out all the important stuff going on with Futurama fan material, it's compacted down into one informative entertaining online magazine which people can download and then read... I figure it may attract a bit more attention to the Futurama fan community, considering it's almost been a year since the show's cancellation.

At any rate, it sure as hell couldn't hurt - and if the idea gets enough support, it'll definately be worth a shot, right?

Yes it might, but I still have difficulty to see how this differs from other websites. What you want to do is a site with "News", with "Scans" and other "fan-made stuff". But that exists on every Futurama site I know.

Don't get me wrong, even if it a website I am all up and for it. Even another Futurama fan site would be great and help the community, but there really isn't anything unique in what you are suggesting.
If it was a mailing list or some sort (although alot of people don't like mailing lists), then I would see how this differs from other websites. But the idea in its current form, well, it seems you wish to make another Futurama site (which, as I said, is great).

Oops, I accidently double posted, clicked on "quote" instead of "edit". didn't notice.
Moderators, if you would be so kind to delete this specific post - would appriciate it.

The main differences I see are:

a) You download it, so you can keep it and easily find the information in it later on. (pdf format, I presume?)

b) You can find out news without going to sites every day or two.

c) It would (/could) collect fan stuff from alot of the main sites. Some fanartists / fiction writers sumbit to multiple sites, but not all do.

I would support the magazine if it came out.

Well, I can understand now how it differs from sites, but sorry to be the party-pooper (or whatever you write this.. ehh.. word) but I still don't see the advantages of this format.

a) Instead of news all fanscripts/fanarts are stored in the site for later access. For the news, why would I want to keep old Futurama-related news at my computer?

b) If I wont go to sites every day or two... they won't be news anymore... they'll be... ehh... olds.

c) Then why not open a site for that, and just ask people their permission to post their arts/scripts in it?

I think it sounds like a good idea. I probably could help out somewhat if it ever takes off.

An online magazine sounds like a fun idea to me.
