I started writing actual Futurama fanfics back in the summer of 2002, when Futurama looked screwed but nothing was actually confirmed...yet. I had been drawing Futurama since summer 2001, well before any bad news came along - so basically I'm doing all this fan stuff since I enjoy the show so much, rather than thinking this would be my only way to keep the spirit of the show going. Why I actually wrote any thing down I can't remember. I've always liked writing, but for the life of me I really can't remember what clicked one morning and made me decide "I'll write a 380 page fan-fic me thinks" The only thing I do remember was that it was not my first idea for a fanfic but a close second - my first was to be a fanfic about Futurama and motor-racing, but I thought that would take too long to write so I plumped for the "short" one just to brake my teeth on. Hahaha...

I started writing Simpsons fics back in 1999, but found that after three of them I was kind of limited to certain styles of writing with The Simpsons, plus the show wasn't really that interesting to me any more. Futurama, however, was my new favourite show, and after seeing 'Transformers: The Movie' again after a long time and reading Dune again also after a long time, I got an idea and went with it, realising that Futurama had a much more vast template and that there were very few restrictions, allowing me to write a story based on it how I wanted to write it. The wide variety of styles in the show's episodes truly made me realise this, and the sci-fi setting (I've always been a sci-fi nut...) really meant the only limit was my imagination and the boundaries set by Groening, Cohen and co.

Originally posted by spacepilot3000: Well, I was a big fan of the Matrix films and after seeing "Reloaded" I thought, "What if the Matrix and Futurama collided". The idea to me was first brought up as a joke and I once posted it as an episode/movie Idea on another website. Then when I went to Leela Zone and read a few fanfics, I decided to make a fanfic out of it. Interesting Fry Another Day was the first idea I came up with. Futurama hardly had any references to James Bond. (About only two I believe.) I came up with the idea for Fry as a spy as far back as 2002, when I noticed that there were many spy films. xXx, bourne identity, austin powers, the sum of all fears, spy kids and of course Die Another Day. The spy genre had become a parody of itself. If you watch Die Another Day you'll say that it has parodied what made James Bond, James Bond. So I thought wouldn't it be funny if fry asked the what if machine, what if he could be a spy? The only thing he could go on is by the spies he's seen in movies and TV. By the summer of 2003, I had came up with the spy-counterparts of the Futurama characters for my fanfic, but something happened. The hulk came out and I liked it so much that I came up with the parody the Gulk so quickly. I decided that since Fry would be the star in my spy story, that there was no need to make him the Gulk in this story. The played with possible names; Bulk, Fulk, Wulk, Mulk, but Gulk sounded good for some reason. The gulk also sounded like something Amy would've said, so she became the Gulk. Once I finished and uploaded the The Gulk, I set to work on my spy story. I used many typical Bond references, "Martni, skaken..." and the name's Bond..." It was going to be called, "I, Fry Am Spy." a parody from the movie, "I Spy", even though I was directly parodying Die Another Day with Amy as Jinx. However, once I listened to the song, Die Another Day by Madonna, I felt Fry Another Day sounded better. Bender would've made a good bond villian. I was a big fan of the movie Goldfinger, and I liked the villain and he was great. He was just as cool as Bender so I combined the two in Ironfinger. Ironfinger also pokes fun at all the villains who ever had a hook, claw, what ever for a hand. Once I uploaded the story, people said they liked it. However, I wasn't completely happy, I had left out many other bond references, that I wanted to add, but couldn't due to the fact I didn't want to prolong the story. I felt sad because I couldn't do a sequel, because it would be weird to have Fry ask the what if machine over and over again what if he were a spy. And I wanted my fanfics to be connected as though they were episodes from the show. (All my regular Futurama fanfics are connected with each other and with the show.) Then it hit me, I can make this into a spin-off and keep up with future spy movies that come out and thus poke fun at the spy genre and at the same time honor it. The result is SPYORAMA.

You know there's a very obvious reason for the Robot Devil to be mad at Bender. He cheated his way out of Hell and while they never addressed this again, I would imagine he'd still be pissed about it.

I'd be glad to. Fair warning that college is trying to eat me alive so it won't be top priority. That said, I'll also try to finish part 8 of TFZ this month, but we'll have to see. Making plans doesn't go well with RL.
