Has anyone here ever drawn a celebrity or any real person in that particular drawing style? How do you get it "right", so that everyone immediately knows what celebrity that is? On Futurama and the Simpsons, you always recognize them, Leonard Nimoy, Richard Nixon etc. pp.
Are there any general hints on how to do that sort of thing?

Make sure that you get the facial parts in the correct possition e.g Ken Dodd's big teeth etc.....

Heh, that's the problem.  :D
How do draw the nose, mouth, hair, neck etc.? This may sound like a stupid question, but there's got to be some sort of formula to it. Take a photograph, convert the face into that drawing style... help!  :(

there is always at least one utterly distinctive feature on every celebrity, look closely at a photograph of the celebrity, or watch a movie or tv show with them in. You must try to figure out what's so recignisable about them, such as enrique's mole on his cheek, or nelly's face tape. Do you get me??

Yeah I do, my problem is I don't know how to make those characteristics visible, how to transport them in that futurama-ish style.

Here's one I did, it's Amy Lee Futurama style;

Cheek bones... face shapes... eye shape and distance... brow prominence... hair style... ear shape and distance on the neck(strangely enough), clothing/body shape/how the clothes are worn... mouth, lips, teeth, dimples, laugh lines... temples...

There is a formula to converting people to Groening-style... but I've already said too much.
*eats the formula*

NOOO! Don't eat it!
I think I know now why I can't get it to look right, it's because I can't draw. Awww.  :(

Basically, you take their strongest most distinctive features, and then simplify them  :)

I just can't get it right. :/
Who I'm trying to draw actually is Matt Bellamy from Muse (he has pretty characteristic cheeks, nose, chin...), maybe one of you who is very talented and has lots of spare time might give it a shot.  ;)

How I did it is scan, play around with clothes and hair and facial features, clean up, there. Amy Lee was easy to do, since she's pretty easy to draw. Start out with someone easy- say, Matt Groening.  :)

I don't mean to offend, but the Amy Lee you drew isn't as recognizable as Futurama's Nixon or Nimoy for example. If you hadn't said who it is, I'd have guessed it's a gothic two-eyed Leela.
But yeah, I think you're right. I should be more patient, take more time and just play around until I get it right.

No offense taken  :). I know it doesn't, but I'm no Futurama artisit. But it's close enough IMO.

I think it's cool you draw so much Futurama stuff.  :)

MrBurns, just exagerate their most distinctive features, if somebody has a fairly big nose, give them a huge nose. You might also find it useful to get some tracing paper, then go over the main outlines of their face, but exagerate slightly. This will probably result in more of a King of the Hill style cartoon though.
If you just can't get it, well... don't take this the wrong way, but you just might not be good enough at drawing. Good luck.

Watch a Picture of Leonard Nimoy in real life and then compare it to Leonard Nimoy Groening-style. Then you should se how they made it.

Do you mean the "art" I made? Well I haven't scanned anything so far because the faces look like anything but Matt. Anyway, I could upload an image of Matt and one I drew so maybe someone could give me some hints on how to get there.  :)

I guess you can't get it onto this site without uploading it somewhere first. I have about 2MB of webspace, if you have a not too big image I could upload it for you. And yes, I could also upload my "art", I just have to scan it. Err, tomorrow, ok?   :) I'm veeeeery tired. *yawn*

But it IS great, you should know that, Juliet and impossible. It is amazing.

I just hope to god that Fry only dresses like that for Halloween (Scary costume! Scary!)

Says you... the only drug I'm married to is caffiene, and that's perfectly fine here.  *rumples her brow and walks away, complaining about people needing to put outside shit in to think of good ideas..*

FemJesse: Caffiene, the insomniacs best friend. Ever try Jolt cola? "All the sugar and twice the caffiene" I drank a whole six pack on a dare one time, stayed awake for 2 days straight gibbering like a monkey. Fun times.
