I obviously scanned in the main picture, and then put a picture of the Hale-Bopp comet behind it. I think it came out well

Cool. I recommend Flash for that sort of thing. Then you might want Photoshop to touch up colour, shading, etc.

Nice start, Melllvar. A bit "shaky" here and there, but otherwise good.

I can only second Chumps recomendations, Flash is a great and pretty easy program for the actual tracing. I use PSP7 for the coloring, but Photoshop is top of the line (at least that's the impression I've got).

I use PSP 7.04 to do all my scanning. The best way to avoid the 'crusty' effect is to enlarge the image by 500% and then shrink it back after. This makes a nice, smooth and reasonably straight image.
