Hey guys, so I've never really displayed my artwork (unless it's anonymous) and figured I'd give it a go  :flirt:

Hope you folks like it

Wow, you have the eye itself down extremely well.  And the eyebrow, too.  How long have you been drawing?  I haven't drawn anything since I started sixth grade :)

Probably for as long as I can remember, I just recently started painting though and thats been great, I was always afraid to venture outside of drawing and actually go somewhere with it.

And thank you, I appreciate the comment

I can't tell what the chin error is, and the I only notice  anything in the lips because you mentioned it.  It's a very nice piece; your skills are good.

Edit: painting is weird.  I was never particularly good with it on art things.  I paint for a living sometimes now though and improved a bit.  Water based paints (not watercolour necessarily) is a lot more manageable than oil based paint--oil based paint operates almost as if it's alive, and it wishes to get on everything.

I know oil paintings are annoying, I do acrylic mostly, I really only have three or four paintings total :p

I'll have to post them sometimes, do you draw too?

Not per se.  I occasionally practice draftwork, architectural plans, 3/4ths perspectives on rooms, etc.  I'm not very talented drawer honestly.  Most of my artistic endeavors are predominantly flash games--I posted some unfinished projects in the general art thread a few weeks back.

Here's a painting from a while back that I had done for my aunt, it was different because I used a tattoo as a reference

Oh, that's great, Shiny!  Really great.  I have to show this to my Peeler friend Bender_Waffles!  She adores octopi/octopusses, and has an awesome tattoo of one, too. :)

[edit]

Bender_Waffles (Anastasia) loves it :)

In fact, her exact reaction was:

Well, I can zoom in on it.  Was it on paper?  Like 4in by 6in?  I can't tell the original size if it isn't digital, unless it was created digital.

Was it inspired from your mind?

it was just on an average sized sketch pad, and no I saw the photo somewhere and it got my attention so i decided to recreate it with some markers and colored pencils

Fantastic work, Shiny! Your traditional media skills are on point.

That octopus stands out the most. I really like how smooth the color gradient is.

The lips on their own kind of look like the risky lips from the Rocky Horror Picture Show (one of my all-time favorite movies, so that is definitely a compliment!) Did you use Prismacolor markers or regular ones?

Very nice, Shiny!  You have a good eye for detail and shading.

And Athena, I was thinking that the lip pic reminded me of some old Rolling Stones album cover, but now that you mention it, Rocky Horror is definitely a better match :) (and also AC/DC's Highway to Hell album cover).

Hey guys, so..um. It's been a while  :p I hope everyone's doing well and August has been good to ya

I'm always out showing my art work but I never really post any progressions. So I thought I'd give it a go here with just a fun attempt at remaking a popular cover photo for the movie La La Land.

And this is where it's at now. I'm not too happy with it yet because it's all very sloppy/draft work and I've still got to go in and texturize(?) a lot as well as finish the city lights, which is mostly tedious. I don't know if I'll actually finish it but it's cool looking at where it started and how it's turning out    :flirt:

I'm not sure, I'm not usually one to draw provocative photos of women but then I tried it, and shit it's beautiful to do. The detail, drawing bodies is great (lil too enthusiastic but its true)

I think it's because they're very complex shapes surrounding a symmetric core.  The layers involved to place muscle over bone, encased by skin is pretty enticing in its own way.

Besides the way it "flows", I like the slight asymmetry...it makes it look more natural. To me, anyway.

sorry I've been gone for sooo long, it's hard to keep up with work and going back to school and whatnot. Currently Im a nanny but the kids are on vacation this week, and I must say, phew. It's definitely the toughest, yet equally rewarding, job I've ever had.

However, leaning more toward the artistic side of the Makayla spectrum, Im thinking about starting a tattooing apprenticeship. I've called a few places and got a starter kit, so Im hoping by august I'll be accepted somewhere, It'll be nice to have that flexibility while going back to school.

I hope you guys are all doing well, tell me what's new, whats good in the hood

That flowing, sinuous figure with the palm facing out is very cool. idk jack about art, but the textures are really interesting.

It never really crossed my mind before, but how do aspiring tattoo artists practice the mechanics of using the handpiece? Do they tattoo oranges or something?

...tell me what's new, whats good in the hood

Not a great deal here, I'm afraid. There are occasional posts on the Peel Discord.

WHAT DISCORD????

It's very common to start out practicing on fruit!! But you can also practice on pig skin or synthetic skin (which is relatively new now). I've practiced on an orange and getting a feel for holding the gun, but piercing something/someone with the needle is VERYYY intimidating, a lot of people put their first tattoo on themselves!!

I really appreciate the compliments too, it definitely boosts my motivation. You don't have to know much about art to appreciate it (trust me, whether or not I'm a skilled artist is up for debate, but regardless I don't know jack shit about any art terminology)
