Well, these are some of my attempts at scan-art. I did them to encourage more scan-art and/or fanart subbmissions at Fry Online. What do you think?

Fry's mouth in the top pic looks a bit wonky in the corner, and maybe his pupils look a bit too small or faint in the third one, but apart from that I think they are really excellent.   :)

I agree. Really not bad scans at all. Keep it up.  :)

Who know, I might give this scanarting a try some day.

How exactly is scan art done

I'm not sure, I presume that the artist has a episode on a downloaded format or something and takes screen captures of various shots. Because the quality of the avi is usually low, you then have fun touching it up/make it look nicer. I dunno know, I'm guessing.

Pretty much spot on. I'm no expert, I've only recently started to fiddle around with it.

@Bartman:

Take a screengrab (MPEG's preferred, for the better resolution, but anything will do), stick it in a piece of graphic software (I use Flash 5, others tend to go with PSP 7, Adobe Illustrator eyc), trace the outlines and fill in colours.

Other PEEL threads include: Perfered scan program
Making scans from framegrabs.

And many many others.

If you understand German there's a wonderful tutorial on the Flash 5 way at Futurama Ceneter.de

CGEF has a tutorial too, somewhere.

The technique is to make the line width just right. If you're using a big picture, the width should be about 4 pixels.

Another work by me. It's a bit hard to scan that picture, it was very dark and hard to see the outline for.

Well, Leela's feet and mouth have gone slightly wrong, but otherwise that's a pretty cool pic.  ;)

Yea, Leela's boots being black and her mouth being blurred into her face kinda meant it went a bit wrong.

Fry in Space, took ages to do, my first scan using besier lines (Or whatever they are), and the first with some form of shading.
