So  I work at a cake  gallery and I'm the artist. I do 3d cakes not unlike the famous shows you see on TLC and good network. I've hinted to my fiance I want a bender (the head with a cigar) cake for the groom's cake.problem I've searched for ideas online and they look horrible (if any one here did one that is viewable by google images then I meant to say remarkable). I surely can't make my own groom's cake but I want to. Anyway anyone done anything similar? I'd make one for fun if I could afford the materials and my boss isn't going to just let me play around with theirs haha. I'll post pictures if it happens though. a man can dream though...a man can dream

You should make a Bender cake and post a picture of it!

I'm no good at making cakes, but I've seen some adorable Brainslug cakes somewhere before...

To be honest even if he'd read it 10 times I don't think his reply would be any different...

To be honest I think the toughest parts would be the top of his head and maybe his eye area but even those seem like they wouldn't present a challenge that would be impossible. All it would take is a load of layers, a bit of shaving and a LOT of that colored application sugar...stuff... or icing... so it's beyond my why the cakes you've found in searches aren't exactly masterpieces. Why not make a teeny cake out of cupcake-sized layers just for fun?

Well you could make the visor and eyes  with gum paste it dries hard.you could do fondant wrapped styrofoam or rice crispy balls for the eyes to keep down on weight so they don't fall off.I may do a tiny version

I'm not too bad with cakes, if I had the time I'd totally make a bender just to see if I could! I'd probably make the round part of his eyes out of rice crispies and wrap a thick piece of fondant around them to make his whole eye area. Skewer the whole thing through his head with a dowel and I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Here are the images of those Futurama cakes you mentioned through google search, to those of us who have not seen them:

I think that one's ok...I don't know about a wedding cake.

This one below is my favorite. Definitely some good ideas if you ever get a customer requesting a space themed cake ;)

I second that. Yeah skewer and dowel the hell out of the eyes.I really don't think it would be difficult.I've done far more challenging ones like a deer head.then found out the customer transported it wrong (put it in the passenger seat with a seat belt in 90 degree weather) and he fell apart.moron ha
