Thanks.
I noticed that I did not make his tentacles(or whatever the word for them is) protrude quite enough. I guess that will have to wait for the pink crayons.

Like your Zoidberg crayon craving!  Looks just like him!  You should make one of Bender as well.

Thanks guys.  :)
Bender is a great idea. He is already shaped like a crayon a bit. The antenna is going to be the biggest challenge.

What tools do you use?

I used that sharp tool that comes with a potter tool kit(photo on my page). I guess a dental tool word work well also. Before I used that I used a mechanical pencil that I would sharpen by scraping it at an angle.

arrrgh. Made a go for bender but didn't work well. Antena broke and the deep set eyes did not work out. Maybe another day.

Pick yourself up a chunk of soapstone and go nuts. No need to limit yourself to crayon if you like to carve.

You should make the bender without the eyes and antenna. Make the eyes and antenna seperately, then put them in/on afterwards.

Even if you're having trouble carving certain things, keep at it. After all, that is a great squid you carved! I like how it looks as though the creature is emerging from the paper wrapping.

thanks! I have been wanting to revisit that one for a while now. I have had a lot of practice since I made that and I want to try again and see if i can make it a little closer to the right proportions. It is an amazing thing to work off of. If you google image venus of willendorf there are so many funny takes on it out on the web. I think the knit one is my favorite.
