I am given to understand that the main reason for the depression is that Fry becomes "not Fry" in some fundamental way. It's not quite how I see it, but I can understand why people might take that position.

your the first person to call it shippy. Coldy might disagree with you... and I suspect this is from different understandings of what a relationship actually is.   :)

Also, for no reason, I put together a soundtrack made up of the music that most inspired particular scenes.

ETA: Darn, I should wait for these things to upload before talking about them. Give it a few minutes...

You don't know my mind!

On the contrary, it is merely the result of established and self-reinforced preference for a specific pairing of two characters due to the evident predisposition of the source material to pair them off romantically, their shared history, and their romantic compatibility.

Ingrained expectation of the attainment of that final goal meant I was left a little cold when said goal became unattainable and/or irrelevant, and an interloper was introduced, resulting in an anguished groan of disappointment.

That is not to say the literature is not of a high quality and well-executed - it really is; you did well. I just feel as one might if Return of the Jedi was remade to show Princess Leia dumping Han Solo and snogging Chewbacca instead... (but still remaining friends with him, so that's okay, right? Wrong. Dead wrong.)

In conclusion, I feel that you're responsible for the destruction of the 'ship that's been seen in BBS. I've deduced that the only way to repair it is to destroy you.

Now now coldangel, let him write the sequel first - *then* destroy him.    ;)

On a more serious note, I kinda got the impression from the end that Sam, Leela, and Fry might (eventually) end up in some kind of three-way relationship - it is the future, after all. (Admittedly, this is more circumstantial than anything else, but I did somewhat get that sense.) And as Fry apparently hasn't entirely given up on Leela...unlikely? No more so than heads in jars!    :)

Archonix: Phi is, I'd say, not entirely Fry anymore. That is, she's grown and developed in ways that Fry could not. (Not that I want tell you your business, so to speak.  :) ) She's still basically the person she was as a man, but now she's a woman. And one thing certainly hasn't changed, which would provide some great tension for a sequel...good luck!    :)
