Part Seven

Jess was sitting down on a clear space on Fry’s bed, and Sam was pacing the room.
“They should be back by now!” he muttered under his breath. Jess giggled, she took a certain amount of pleasure at seeing her brother worked up.
“Cool it bro, I’m sure they’re fine,” she reassured.
“No I won’t cool it, what the hell do you know, you’re only 14!” Sam yelled. Jess stood up in a threatening posture.
“Like you’re so much better coz you’re 16! I’m the one who had to fight against mum, not you! I’m the one who reasoned with her and got her to come here, not you! You may be older but you sure as hell aren’t any better than me!” Jess shrieked.
“Shut up!”
“NO, you don’t like the truth do you! You’re useless, useless and ugly! You can’t even get a girlfriend!”
“I don’t see any boys queuing up at your door!”
“That’s because I’m with Ryan!”
Jess clapped a hand over her mouth.
“RYAN! You going out with Ryan Shore!” roared Sam.
“So what if I am!”
“He is Michelle’s son! You know how much Mum and Dad hate her!”
“Ryan isn’t like his mum!”
“He’s no good for you Jess, you’ll get hurt!”
“He isn’t like that, he cares about me!”
“The only person that jackass cares about is himself!”
“You’ve never talked to him, or watched him, you’re just basing you judgement his mum!”
“He’s 18 for god’s sake! You’re too young for him, and when he can’t get what he wants from you he’ll leave!”
“No he won’t, he loves me, and I love him!”
“Wake up Jessica, he’s using you!”
“Why would he do that?”
“Because he’s a jerk!”
“No he’s not! He’s lovely and sweet and kind!”
“And you fell at his feet like a love-sick puppy!”
Jessica saw red and swung her clenched fist into Sam’s face. Sam dropped like a sack of potatoes and clutched at his nose which was now bleeding profusely. At that precise moment, the door opened and Fry and Leela walked in.
