I figure this will either go very well, or very badly. I carefully reviewed the various peel FAQs and found nothing prohibiting it, though, so I'll just try it and see how it goes.

Today I finally upgraded my cellphone. No longer do I have the incredibly antiquated Noki 6340i. Instead I now have a nicer (if still very basic) Nokia 6030. (My phone isn't a toy, it's an essential tool, so I prefer something simple, reliable, and nigh indestructable over something flashy or cool.)

Now that I have a phone with a color screen that supports wallpaper, though, I feel the need to have something uniquely me. I'm no artist myself, but I know there are many talented artists on PEEL, producing high-quality fan-art. And so, this contest was conceived!

I know what you're thinking... "Did someone say cash prize?" Yes, I did, but it's gonna be a pretty small one. The winner, whose custom artwork will likely grace my phone until I upgrade again in another 5 years, will recieve a cash prize of US$20.

Now for the terms of the contest!
Don't let the long list of rules scare you; I'm just an obsessive-compulsive dork, it's all pretty common-sense stuff: you own your stuff; no entering other peoples' work; I'm the judge. The reason I'm so explicit is because i am now publicly committing to paying somebody $20, and I don't want anyone crying foul later; after all, my reputation on PEEL is on the line here. (Like that's worth much, har, har)

-In all cases, artist retain all rights to their work, including distribution and sale.
-The artist may sign their work. If signed explicitly, the signature should not exceed 32px by 8px. Signatures which are integrated into the image may be larger.
-Artwork must be in .gif or .jpg format
-Resolution should be exactly 128x128
-Entries may be animated gifs, but this is not required, nor will animated gifs automatically beat non-animated gifs.
-There are no limit to the number of entries a person may make.
-The image should not contain my screen name "Gopher" or any reference to the website "Peel," as this phone will be used professionally and my screen name exists to keep my online activities distinct from my professional life.
-The submission deadline is October 31st, 2006. If entries are slow, this may be extended to no later than December 31st 2006 at my discretion or by the request of an entrant.
-If by the deadline there are less than 8 serious entries, or entries from less than 3 serious entrants, the contest will be cancelled.
-"Serious Entries" is a term to be defined by the contest holder (me) only. Examples of entries that would not be concidered serious include entries that do not conform to the entry guidelines, entries which are deliberately inflamitory or offensive without redeeming humor, or entries which show an obvious lack of effort on the part of the entrant.
-A "serious entrant" is any entrant who has made at least one "serious entry."
-Prefered payment is via PayPal, but other arrangements can be negotiated if this is not acceptible. Payment methods that involve a cost of more than US$2 in charges may have a portion of those costs deducted from the prize. (Regardless of cost, I will cover the price mailing a check of at basic postage rates; exception applies only if you're in a hurry for some reason.)
-Entries are to be posted to this thread.
-Any method is acceptable, as long as the submitted work is original. This includes, but is not limited to, pixel art, scan art, freehand work, or 3d renders. No screen caps!!
-Pre-existing artwork may be entered if it is adapted to conform to the guidelines, but only by it's creator - so no stealing other people's fan art, scaling it down, and submitting it!

The only other guideline is that entries must be Futurama-based and original. Shippy work is accepted, but be warned that I am not a Shipper myself, and work that is too shippy will be unlikely to win.
