Wow! I love it! So much more, I don't know, cleaner(?) than most 3-D Benders that are around!

EDIT:

Thanks a lot for the positive feed back guys.   When I feel there's some interest in what I'm doing it really helps to motivate me.  I' wanna get this done as quickly as I can for you guys.  I've run into some hard times trying to sync him to the music and look natural but it's my first time doing it so I think after I get past this hump it'll pan out more smoothly.

I'm flattered, I think perhaps the difference is that I animate at 30 fps (the show's often at 12 fps) and I've really been trying to maintain benders weight by shifting it from one foot to the other and tilting it at the appropriate times like people do in real life.  That'd be my guess. either way, I'm thrilled to hear that you like it.

haha, I wish.  I'm just a bum community college student entering my Junior year.  This piece alone with a few others I'm currently working on are going towards my portfolio, which I plan to send out to a few different art/animation schools this fall in hopes that I can catch a break. hell, perhaps I'll even send my reel to rough draft studios, it wouldn't hurt... unless they got on me about recreating copyrighted material.

Hmm, perhaps we'll encounter each other in the far off future, even if it's a slim chance. I plan on going that direction for a job. Or, by then, I may change my mind about what I wanna do. Whatever pays good's good enough for me  :laff:

That'd be cool, just do what you like and you'll find that, because it's where your heart's at, people'll pay you a lot to do it.  I do this because I love to animate and by chance one of my professors recommended me when he was offered a job and now I'm rendering cars in 3d for $18 an hour, which I don't expect to settle for my whole life but at 20 years old, I can't complain.

Anyways, been workin on the animation all today, it's not much but I find it amusing;

The animation's still a little rough, I'll end up polishing it a bit more before the final render but hopefully you get the idea. lemme know what you think of his moves.

PS. I finally hit frame 1000!!!

then again, if I animate him dancing throughout the whole song I'll end up with over 5,500 frames. D :

Ah,, the joys (and difficulties) of making Bender, or any character for that matter, dance. It's quite amusing, and it's one of the only things, heck, it is the only thing that I ever wait to load completely on my obsolete and slow computer and love to replay a million times while it's loading. That means it's really catching my attention and intrigues me.

great job on the animation! Are you gonna make any other models and do a short film, or just seeing what you can do?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to download and watch the previews you guys.  It means a lot to me. I was starting to think peel had forgotten about me.

Fryman, I made fry before (http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/4-001231/).

This is just seeing what I can do, I've studied a lot lately and this is the first chance I've had to really put a lot of that knowledge to use.  As of now I just plan on animating him dancing for my demo reel.  After that I have a few original shorts I've been meaning to address.  When I finished fry I didn't intend on making bender but look where I am now, so who knows, I can't say this is the last futurama charater I'll recreate.

On a side note, my job has picked up lately, I haven't had much time for bender plus I'm just having a tough time getting the transitions right but I'll be back with another preview asap. Thanks again for letting me know what ya think.

Forgot about you? PEEL never forgets, though sometimes the older info gets lost in the archives.

The animation looks great, Show. Can't wait to see a final render. I know what you mean, my work has been keeping me busier than usual lately as well.

Making things worse I just moved into my first house this month. I used to spend sunday mornings working on hobby projects, but now I have yard-work I have to get done as well, and I haven't gotten any work done on my own projects in weeks, except for a few stolen minutes here and there expanding design docs.

:sigh:

Thank you gopher, I appreciate the acknowledgment, I hope things around the house have settled down since your last reply.

just a little re-introduction, feel free to skip over.  I was pulled away from bender and animation altogether for awhile while I worked on The Allegory of August.  With that finished (or just getting sick of working on it) I've picked back up on bender.  I need to get my portfolio out before the end of the year and with this not being the only thing I wanna finish I'll just be tweeking the animation I've already roughed (most of which you've already had the chance to preview) and rendering that out.  I've got about 1200 frames done, so I hope to have roughly 40 seconds of finished bender footage within the next month.

In the mean time I'm happy to say I have something else to share.

Over the summer I recieved an e-mail from a college student, jahue.  He has access to some really cool equipment at his school and contacted me about using my model of bender's head to experiment with making a physical model out of computer generated objects.  I agreed to let him use my model on the condition that I get a few of the excess test pieces.  To my great pleasue, he was true to his word and a few weeks ago I recieved 4 copies of my model in true 3d   :D

aside from 3d I also do work as a hand model.

I've held out on you guys long enough.

Sorry for the terrible quality but I'm sure not everyone feels like waiting to download futuramam fan art.  Click it, tell me what you think, watch the volume it hasn't really been edited (note the lack of foot steps).

Alright, alright, so there's a particular difficulty to sharing animated fan art.  Hopefully youtube changes that.  this is a better resolution, funny enough I also think it's a smaller file.  Imagine that, I'm learning a thing or two about proper formates.

So in light of getting a new digital camera I was playing around with creating HDRI's.  The benefit of doing so, for me as a 3d artist, is that I can capture lighting and environments and then project them onto digital objects.  So just to toy around with this technique I decided to create an HDRI of my room and comp my bender model into a photo of my table.  anyways, enough talk:
