With the whole downloading = stealing bit, IMO its only stealing, if you download something, which you
actually would have bought if downloading it was not an option. The majority of stuff people illegally download, is just because its there, not as a substitute for buying it. I've probably downloaded 100 albums since i got cable internet, but i would say that i only had the intention of actually buying about 8 or 9 of them, and thats probably over $200au dollars, and being a student, i wouldnt of anyway. In that sense, its a victimless crime because nothing
really being 'stolen' in a sense to taking it from someone else, and even if i hadn't downloaded them i wouldnt of paid for them anyway. However, if its something such as windows xp your downloading, which if you were not able to, you would inevitably go out and buy, then that
is stealing, because in a sense your stealing your own money that you would normally be handing over to bill gates. Also, think about this; one of the futurama dvd's i bought got scratched though no fault of my own, and 2 episodes were unwatchable, so i downloaded them. Is this stealing because i would normally of had to go out and buy another dvd? And is watching free to air television stealing if you don't watch the ads that fund it?
