Well, tell me something...

Are you trying to copy the shows style, or are you converting them into your own?

That almost looks like an impressionist picture of Fry. Decide for yourself whether that's a good thing.

You could always cheat and trace a picture of him spacemonkey. I'm sure that's what everyone else does

I'm pretty sure they don't make love by tracing a picture of Fry.

Tracing is total artistic anathema, and it would be so obvious in a board full of obsessive futurama fans. I'm actually noticing which parts of Pawell's latest art is scanned, and which parts are drawn.

Keep scribbling away spacemonkey! Or try using some paints. Those are fun  :D.

OK, here are some pointers.  First, start by changing the lip.  The most obviously Matt Groening characters have the overbite lip thing.  Even if you can't draw that well, at least the definition will be there.  Second, the ear is possibly the easiest thing to draw, and again, very characteristic of Matt Groening characters. Last, eyes are just bulging circles with a dot in the center. No need for the iris.  Try these things out. Even if you don't get them perfect, you'll still have a picture that looks a lot more like Fry   :)

Here's a tip...try copying freehand, not tracing, from a print-out or photocopy (something on actual paper).  Only turn the picture upside down, and copy it the same way--upside down.

This is a trick that forces your brain to look at the lines rather than the object as a whole...which switches you from your "left brain" (logical) to your "right brain" (artistic).  It's from *Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain*, by Betty Edwards, one of the classic books on learning how to draw.

Drawing on the right side of to brain? I tried that once with that book. Of course it came out as shit because I’m left handed.

Well one of your problems is that theres too much detail. Like on the ears there's not extra squiggley lines and the eyes only have the pupils. Do you own the 3rd season on DVD? Cause they have tutorials in the special features on how to draw Fry and Leela. That's how I learned to draw him.

edit: yeah when you said that that was in Futurama style, that was really hard to believe.

Heh, as an attempt at a direct copy of Fry, I have to be honest, it's rubbish. But as an interpretation in your own style, I like it! My advice is forget about drawing him Futurama style (even if you did manage it, what's the point, really?) and keep going with that sort of thing  :D
