Hey Sarge, I asked this before but it got swallowed up in a different thread. Do you also do bystanders and crowd people? And if you do, are you given free rein over what they look like, within bounds?

Most of the crowd scenes I got this season have been all robots. Thousands & thousands of robots. I made a lot up in one particular scene. I had to. We ran out of robot designs.
Any other crowd scenes I did, I just used the appointed tertiary characters.
When I was on the Simpsons I made up tons of characters for crowd scenes. The boredom of drawing a crowd kind of kills the inspiration to think of putting designs of yourself & friends in them. Besides, at the animatic meetings, the writers will notice a design they didn't approve & say, "Who the hell is that? I don't remember approving that design. Get rid of it." But just drawing generic looking characters usually gets through the animatic.

The reason Leelas' breasts look bigger is becaused I made the line that makes up her back narrower. In the model pack, her back is pretty wide. Plus her arms are up, which causes a contour breast line to be drawn up closer to her neck. It's all illusion. Her breasts are really that size.

Are you referring to a computer model or an actual, tangible, statuette-type thing?  I only ask because I've read that Futurama uses CGI in certain shots, and I'm now hooked on using 3D Studio Max (as you can probably guess from my fan fic).

look at the peel museum for a post/mail my scott vanzo about the 3d animation. but sarge probably meant the character layout profile thingy, which is a hand drawn style guide fro each character from different angles afaik.

A model pack is a bunch of zeroxed drawings on paper. The models of the main characters include turn-around drawings to show them from all sides. They're just in a standing position. We use the model packs for reference.

Amy's hair is weird anyway. It looks the same from every side. Must be magic hairdo, or a wizzard, or a lazy model packer

Amys' hair is like Mickey Mouses' ears. They always look the same no matter what viewpoint.  But her hair does slightly change a bit, especially between the front & rear views. And upshots are dramatically different than downshots.

By the way, the wizard responsible for all of your ails will be seen in 0408.    2 tiny scenes, but there he is!!  I hope they don't cut them!
