You never cease to amaze me. I was just thinking about you because I was watching Aladdin on ABC. I come to find some awesome new pics. I think your latest is my favorite. The stance, the loose hairs, and the don't mess with me-i'll-kick-your-ass look is just perfect. If I had half your talent, I'd be set. I shall gladly shamelessly plug for you    smile    love

Edit- First ever TOTPD! Woo!

Saw The Sting tonight, so it seemed appropiate. Credit goes to GFF for this awesome gif

Honestly, AsaB, I hardly could decide rather to have a look at your pictures or watch that documentation on TV with cute penguin babies  love ...
Then I've decided to watch the pengu-guins  love, since your artworks are not running away, but the TV-documentation somehow does.

Seriously, your artwork is amazing, I'm really impressed, I ... I don't know what to say else.  big grin
Keep up the good (art)work.

TLL: Your cute penguin comment is too cute! Heehee, thanks.

Anyway, just letting you know that the colored and somewhat-touched-up version is coming up. Stay tuned...(ooh, a cliffhanger!)

Stupid question time.  How did you color it?  is it all handdrawn and then scanned or did you import it into photoshop and add the color?  I'm just curious because I love your style of art and would certainly like to try my hand at something similar in terms of color etc... I'm always looking for new and uniques drawing/coloring styles.

Once again, keep up the great work and I look forward to your next 'sketch' (my sketches uasally take longer and end up a heck of a lot messier than these so call 'sketches'! wink )

Yeah, I'm curious about the colouring method too, I think its similar to becky's, with the pencil sketch somehow brought to life in photoshop.

The colour makes it look even better (I love the hair and the wrist thingy), except maybe on the pants, where the shading is blacked out.
Meh, it might just be my monitor...

Wow, Asa, that's awesome! I think I prefer the black/white one, but not by much!

Like Zmithy, I love the wrist thingy (and of course, her hair). Do you use a tablet? Because I wonder how you made the white, pencil-looking highlights on it.

Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks bunches everyone for your comments!   smile Glad you like the colour. As I said before, I'm still not sure which one I like better, but it made me happy you like it.

And my colouring method, you say? You're right, I do use PhotoShop 7 (*hands Bender-is-Great and Zmithy cookies*), but no tablet. I just use the crappy mouse. But the method's quite simple, really. First it's scanning (grayscale) the sketch, and after importing it into PhotoShop I start with using the levels to touch up all the smudges. Also used the eraser tool to do that, and to get the outlines cleaner. Anyway, the colour!

I put the sketch layer on Multiply in the Blending Mode bar, and keep that layer on the top. That way, just the white bits get coloured, while the actual sketch 'stays out'. Then you make individual layers for each colour (skin, hair etc), which you always put below the sketch layer and just fill the to get the base colour. When that's done, I'd like to shade, say, the skin. So I make a new layer on top of that one. Pick a slightly darker skintone, use the brushtool and lower the opacity to about 20% (but it's depends). Skin is complicated and I've been up to 5-6 layers before, but with this one I only used 3.

The wrist thingie was quick. I used a darker colour than the base (on its own layer) and smudged it afterwards to make it blend in. Did the same with the highlight (although picking a very bright colour), smudged and put the layer on Screen to make it 'shine'   big grin

Hair. Uh, I think I just used the dodge tool for the highlights. And one layer put on Screen, I think. Can't quite remember.
As for the pants, I did shade them a bit, but when I tried to do the highlights, they always got kind of shiny   hmpf I wanted the texture to be mat, and I really couldn't do that, so I just left them like that. You have a point though Zmithy, they look kinda flat compared with the rest.

Anyway, I hope that was in-depth enough for you! I got carried away, sorry, tends to happen. [blush-smiley needed to be inserted here] Eep. And Bender-is-Great, I'm glad if I've inspired you in any way, I'd love to see some new art from you!

Wonderful  love

It's fan-"FemJesse"-tastic!  cool  big grin

Honestly, keep up that good work and the "legend" FemJesse will have problems to stay in the memory of short-attention span message-board users.

Seriously, really good artwork. Looks a bit like the old drawing of FemJesse.

I just submitted a new sketch of Fry.( http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/4-000903-1/ )  It's my first attempt at drawing a realistic Fry.  Needs a bit of work but this was done up when I was ready for bed and almost asleep!  laff

I also have other non-Futurama art on my webpage if you wanted to have a look. http://www.jenutech.com
I haven't done anything yet in the X-Men Evo style only because I've been racking my brains with other things right now.  I've got a couple of other Futurama fan art on the go, I just have to get off my lazy butt and finish them!

If ignorance if bliss, you'd think more people would be happy when you tell them they're an idiot!

Leela does kick ass in color. Literally. Or is it that figuritively? Whatever, I'm not an English person. The point is, that looks awesome. I think my favorite part os the ear. That right. The ear. It's covered by think wisps of hair, so you don't notice it at first. But it still there. It just looks good!  love I admire your drawing skills, and the fact you can use photoshop, because I wasn't patient enough to teach myself.  tongue You're definately an artist to watch, as The Voices even mentioned in his interview with TLZ.

TLL: Aw, you're so nice! I am by no means trying to copy or replace FemJesse, whose art is sweet, but the compliment remains. Thanks  big grin

B-i-S: Way ahead of ya, both seen and reviewed your Fry sketch  wink I was also looking at your other lovely art--you did an Abu sketch, I officially love you! (Yo, Aladdin fan here!) But still, get off your posterior and finish some more Futurama art for us, won't you? Please?

Beamer: You're so nice. Thanks, I'm glad all the work, blood and sweat of colouring that pic paid off  tongue

Procyon: Um...let's say figuratively, simply because it's a cooler word! And thanks for the kind comment. Liked the ear? Finally *someone* noticed! Wouldn't believe the amount of TIME and BLOOD...nah. But thanks! And whoa? TV mentioned me in an interview? Wha? I didn't know, thanks for mentioning *checks it out* I feel proud.

And you other, just thanks. No need for quirky phrasing TL, your point remains valid. ^^

So that was a long reply. And just letting you know, I doubt I'll be very productive the following 2-3 weeks, perhaps, school is getting heavy. And stuff, busy, y'know. G'uh!

That's exactly what I was going for  wink No seriously, thanks, you're very nice.

But people, I lied to you. I told you not to expect any pics for the time being, but what happens? I get attacked by a sketch bunny, so vicious you wouldn't believe me! (*digresses*) But, since school will be busy for the upcoming weeks, I decided to get it over with this weekend, otherwise it'd have to wait. So, I present you Leela and Fry--maybe in that parallel Roman universe? Poor Fry got the position of a slave, apparently.

But seriously. If I ever get a sketch bunny again that involves folds, I'll kill it on the spot.
