Fanart, anyone?

After much debating with myself, I decided to make one of these things--my very own thread! It seemed more convenient, at least. I really don't have anything new to show at the moment, except a few sketches. Since this is supposed to be an arty-thread, I thought it'd be better than nothing to start off with.
(Ok, I'm really having an artist's block, heeelp! Inspiration needed.)

And yes, I noticed I signed my pics as if they're from '04...I'm still adjusting to the new year -_-

AsaB, that first picture (Semi-realistic Leela) is amazing.  Don't ask me why, but I really like her added cargo pocket.  Welcome to PEEL... don't leave.

I still stand by all of that.  I really like your style of realism, which manifests itself yet again in the newest three pics. Simply brilliant stuff. Keep up the good work; I hope to see this as a thriving thread in the near future.  It's also good to see you commenting in other threads, this forum needs some more regular members... so post, post with all you might! (and while you're at it,  my thread is buried somewhere too   ).

I love these new sketches!  It kinda reminds me of the Warner Bros type animation (ie X-Men Evolution etc)  Keep up the great work!

Wow. All of this stuff, and of course your old stuff, is completely amazing. I love the expression on semi-realistic Amy's face, and blue pencil is always classy.

Same with Leela in her Opera dress... She looks like a dream. I love the way the dress flows.

Keep it up!

EDIT: Meh! How could I forget?! The Fry sketch is also really great. I like the style... Somehow a bit different than te others...

I do, thats the best realistic-styled Fry I've seen! I wasn't sure if you'd be able to do Fry in your style because of his face structure, but you have and it looks great.
I like the cheeky expression on his face. 

Its clear from the sketches that you can draw people really well, which makes for great futurama art. I think theres too many fan artists (myself included) that can only draw in a cartoon style, so its refreshing to see a new, unique look.

And don't feel like you have to photoshop everything up, I actually prefer the rough sketches... I'm not sure why, they just seem more artistic.

Zmithy: Thank ya, I'm glad you like that Fry! Perhaps it's not that bad after all, there's just something that strikes me as weird in it. But everything you said is so encouraging, thanks. And I'd intended to post more sketches here, so I'm glad there's some interest for it - Photoshopping pics up can be so time-consuming!

oooh! I love the opera Leela sketch. She looks so cute with her hair like that. I think that's the best pic of her i've seen from you.

The Fry ones good too though he may have slightly too much forhead. Amy's adorable. That's the best representation of her hairstyle i think i've ever seen period.

Edit: on second look, Amy's neck may be a tad too long, but i'm not too sure.

I think that's the best realistic-looking Amy I've ever seen. Seriously. You got her proportions right, made her look real, but at the same time you kept her looking pretty and Futurama-ish. Kudos.

As for Amy's neck, yep, I noticed--thanks for pointing it out. I definitely also need some one to tell me what's off  Not gonna fix it now (in the words of Zed, sod it!), but it's good to know.

you have a nice style.  i'm an outsider as far as drawing cartoons and speak with no authority but your work has a really nice touch to it...  the Amy is superb.  *right-click save*

I'm not sure if this is something that's only happening to me, or what, but for some reason, when I click your links, I get re-directed to Microsoft's homepage. I've tried everything, including removing the additional "http://" and I just can't access them.

Another take on Fry. Better? I'll probably tweek around a bit with that design (here I go again, throwing fancy words around like I'm a pro, while actually just being a 18 year old amateur  ). In any case:

Asa, you are too great for words. The Fry sketch, and the style you drew it in, completely reflects his character. And Leela's hairstyle is all cool, and stuff. Very Chicagoesque (if that's even a word)!

Somewhat post-worthy sketches... ameteur

You are one of the most self-degrading artists on this message board. Maybe you don't realize this, but most of us would kill to be this good at drawing. What's more, we wouldn't call them sketches if we could draw this well, we'd call them works of art. If, by your standards, this is the kind of work that an ameteur does, I would really like to know what "professional" sketches look like. Honestly, you have every right to use fancy artist lingo without calling yourself an ameteur. Look at some of the other art on this forum (I suggest Ooy and Jerkberg) and maybe you will realize how awesome you are.

Aww, poor ooy never gets any love. Agreed, though. You really deserve to give yourself some more credit.

Excellent again. I have no idea why Fry has that look on his face, but lord knows it makes me laugh. And Leela looks surprisingly good with a bob. As a general comment, I really admire how you draw noses. They're troublesome body parts, I think, so I'm always in awe when someone manages to make them look right. Keep up the great work; I love this stuff.

I didn't mean to come off like that, really. In all fairness, I said I wasn't functioning properly, some might have noticed that I even signed the Leela pic from '04  In any case, sorry if it rubbed anyone the wrong way.

And thanks a lot for all the compliments too, they mean a lot. TL, you mentioned the noses. I can have *such* trouble drawing those, so that made me feel accomplished, thanks! Especially Fry's, oof. Also glad his expression was liked, it struck me as Fry-esque

Oh yeah, thats my favourite piece out of the art you've done so far, its just... gorgeous! The shading on the hair is awesome, and the pose and expression works really well too.

She looks like she's about to beat the crap out of something twice her size  .

Wow! Just... wow! Keep drawing or I'll cry, and then tears will get in my ears, because I'll be upside down for some reason. I really like the collarbones. And the full lips are a nice touch, since they're so big and color-y on the show.

I usually don't like realistic versions of cartoons, but for some reason yours' just stand out as really really good! And I do enjoy looking at them... they're so pretty! I also love the whole blue sketchy look. Faaantastic. Can't wait for more!

(Oh yeah... I also second that that's the best realistically done Fry I've ever seen).

I'm, like, so mad at myself for not noticing this thread sooner! AsaB, why did you not shamelessly plug this thread over in my thread so I would know about it? For shame!

Anyway, this is some of the most amazing stuff I've ever seen in the fanart world. I'm so limited in my drawing ability (cartooning all the way), so I admire anyone who can draw such beautiful realistic stuff. On that note, I love this most recent pic--like others have said, the shading and, like, everything else is perfect. You certainly have a lot of talent there. Keep it up...please?
