Hi all  :)

Something that may interest some of you... Futurama Madhouse: The Leela Zone has just opened a brand new section: Futurama Interviews. Each month we'll interview at least one important member of the Futurama online community, and we got the best of the best for our November debut: Kryten and FemJesse!

So, you many fans of Kryten's storytelling and FemJesse's artistic flair may like to check out what these guru's of Futurama fanworks had to say at the following link:

 http://www.futurama-madhouse.com.ar/interviews/index.shtml

I'm sure you'll find them as informative and witty as I did... it was a great honour to grill both of them.   :)

Oh, and feel free to offer suggestions for any future interview candidates. Remember, we can't cover everybody at once though, else we'll run out of people to interview after only a few months   :p

Nice casual interviews, worth reading.

I like this idea, its a good way for non-peelers to see more than just the name of an artist/ author.

An Otis P interview would be awesome!

EDIT: A Paul M interview about the years of FSAC would also be a great read.

Very nice work indeed, Enjoyable reads and I llok forward to seeing whom may be next.

I believe an interview with this Kenneth White fellow would be very interesting (especial if the inteviewer remains the same) as I would love to hear the inspirations behind his fics.

Heh, nice interviews.
Maybe you should try interviewing hobojobo for his 3D artistry and JBERGES for his great fanfic scripts?

Why not Bumble Bee Theeta? Everyone loves her. I do. Or why not one of the good but less popular people?

They're probably getting to them, SpaceDal.  Kenneth's not going to just sit around interviewing every contributor all at once.  He started with TLZ's most popular writer and most popular artist.  I assume there are more to come.

Also, now I know why my half-assed attempts to hit on FemJesse failed - it was the Al Gore avatar.  Damn you, you tree-hugging sonofabitch.
Ahem...great interviews, both of them.

Just a general point because of a few emails I've recieved: we won't interview people who directly request to be interviewed themselves. No offense to anybody, but we want to make sure they're people that interest the fan community overall and not just any and every fan out there. I'm sure a hell of a lot of fans would like to be interviewed, but anybody can easily suggest themselves, and we can't interview every person out there just because. That's why I suggest that if you do suggest candidates, please suggest other people who you admire in the fan community. If you and others out there mention them, then they're the people who are going to be most interesting for readers. And who knows... if your name shows up here from another poster or two, you may just get an email from one of us  :)

I'd also like to note that I'm not the only one at the site performing them... any FM:TLZ webmaster is welcome to sit in the interview chair, and it's our choices in the end. We have a pretty good eye on the fanbase and can see who the celebrities of the Futurama community are. Leandro has already got a third interview on the way with a webmaster... I won't say who yet.

I think that about covers it. Keep those suggestions coming, and don't hesitate to repeat names mentioned by other posters. The more the name is mentioned, the more likely they'll be a good choice.  :)

Pah. I held a great interview with myself once and it got great reviews.....well when i say interview I eman I was talking to myself..and when i say great reviews I mean really dodgy looks.

well i've been in the community long enough to see alot of greats come and go. Never the less here are some interviews I would love to see.

Bubblebee Theta (great fan fics)
Silverwolf (one of the first fanfics I read and loved, also I want to know the reason behind why she stopped writting fanfics)
Nasteve (more great stuff)
Andy Robertson (same again)
Paul A Metcalfe (consistantly great work)
Otis P Jivefunk (fantastic art)
Douglas Hilliard (great art and a great but unreleased fanfic)

And I am still hoping for a Kenneth White interview.

I have once again put my foot in my mouth SpaceDal.  I completely misinterpreted the tone of your message.  For some reason, I thought you sounded irritated, but looking back I realize you were just making a suggestion.

Speaking of which: Teral or somebody should interview Kenneth, since he refuses to do it himself.  Also, an interview with FryFan(SpyORama) could be interesting.  The man definitely has opinions.  Also, you should interview SpaceDal so she stops thinking I'm a jackass.  Ooh, and JBERGES.  His upcoming one looks fantastic.  And Layla50 for certain, as soon as she builds up a large enough body of work.  Or finishes anything at all.  And of course, pretty much everyone already pointed out.

Finally, a question that went unasked in Kryten's interview: (probably because everyone but me knows the answer) are there going to be any more Frylight Zone fics?  I rather enjoyed those.  I know Kryten wasn't the only one writing them, but he seemed to be a prominent member of the staff.

Almost forgot: Daniela Schad!

Really good idea... I did interviews of like webmasters in the community a long time ago... but I got lazy and stopped doing them, I think I got two in all.  You could probably put them up on TLZ if you want, I don't mind.

Wow, these interviews are cool!
And Jesse nailed down the problem why I have problems in drawing...

"Also, don't be a scan artist"  :(

On the other hand Pawell is a scanartist, too. And he got the highest ranking on TLZ...  :hmpf:

Anyway, I realy love the idea to interview the best there are. To have an Otis one would be clool, or one of TheVoices, but he doesn't have any pictures of him hosted there anymore.

Why'd you have to go and interview Jesse?  I mean seriously, "Renowned Fanartist?"  Says who?  Her stupid cult following?  All her groupies are as stupid as her, 'cause they don't realize how not-nice she is!  If I had groupies, they would kick Jesse's groupies' stupid butts.

I win!  :love:

Oh, you know what?  You should interview that voice-y guy.  No wait, I think he's dead.  Boo.

I was considering suggesting TheVoices myself, but as he's a minimal poster I thought it would be harder to do an interview... So I'll suggest him now.

Well stop making the stupid rude statements and I'll stop thinking you're a jackass. But I think the only real reason I should be interviewed would be for my parody fan fics and my bizzare (SP?) dog pictures. That would be nice.  :rolleyes:

HDC, you're exactly right. In fact, you nailed I problem I hadn't even thought of. I guess that limiting the number of votes to one per IP and hoping everybody would play nice was extremely naive of me. I just went over the rank datafiles and removed hundreds of mass votes from the same subnet, dating back from September. As a result, TLZ's fanartist ranks have changed _substancially_. I just was too trusting to realize how much a single person can hurt the whole voting process (and I'm not talking about Florida governors here  ;))

Right now I'm coming up with a script that'll check for further instances of subnet mass-voting. Hopefully I won't find much, but whatever I do, rest assured I'll delete all the votes from the guilty subnets, and then integrate the code into the main script so this doesn't happen again.

If any fanartist has left the site because of the rankings being unfair, I apologize, and please come back -- it was my fault for being far too trusting and naive. I forgot even the nicest people can be full of competitive ambition. Things should be fairer for everybody now.

Read you later,
Leandro.

...well, this sucks.

199.125.99.* -> 26 votes: 10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10
66.44.156.* -> 18 votes: 0,0,5,0,0,0,0,0,0,5,2,5,5,5,5,5,5,2
66.44.156.* -> 31 votes: 10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10
194.209.107.* -> 25 votes: 10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10

and those are just a couple of the dozens of subnet mass voters. Guess there's a lot of cleaning to do...

Somebody should've smacked me on the head to fix this thing earlier :P

Ah ha! I knew it!

Anyway I think the whole ranking thing should be scrapped, it makes the fanart section look like one giant competition, there should be some more social aspects to it instead...
A piece where artists could leave a comment about their work would be much nicer than all those red bars.

You don't want to discourage people from doing fanart, but surely someone thats just started drawing some futurama art, but isn't too great at it is going to be somewhat put off by a crap ranking. And what purpose do high ranks serve other than to inflate ego?
A 'pic of the week' or something similar would be a much friendlier form of competition.

Thats just my opinion anyway, hope I didn't sound too obnoxious because I really appreciate the site and the amount of work that goes into updating it.

Did you notice that some pages have a couple lines of text between the header and the actual pics? That space was originally planned to be used just for that. But since all the artist's comments usually ends up in the front page with the update, it sorta lost its purpose...

Maybe you mean a board for comments ala DeviantART for each gallery. Thing is, most of those artists have been MIA for quite a while,so such a feature would be purposeless 90% of the time.

While there probably was some cheating in the voting system, could a lot of this be due to AOL? I believe they use proxy servers, and several users can appear to have the same IP: another board tried to block a troll’s IP and locked out a lot of its regular members at the same time because of this.

If you trying to vote for some artist from the IP someone voted from for this artist earlier, you'll get a message about it. This system can be massively exploited by using dynamic IPs, and not ISP's proxy servers, which actually will work against you in your way to the top  ;)

And while talking about cheating on TLZ... Let me present the most shameless ripoff in scanart history, the picture which consists of DVD framegrab with Raven Software's logo pasted in the corner. I reckon that logo is meant to be a some sort of artist's autograph on his work  :)

I just finished reading Kryten's and FJ's interviews at TLZ and I have to say I really enjoyed them. They were both very funny and gave some great info and depth into the minds of 2 of the greatest Futurama Artists and Fanfic writers.

My question is, who are you gonna interview next?

I took into account that some subnets _have_ a truckload of users -- the voting thingy also stores the _date and time_ you cast your vote (you can see if if you vote again, it'll tell you when you voted). A couple of subnets had lots of votes but they were separated by several weeks, even months at a time, and they varied a bit (some 8s, some 10s for example); those stayed. But when a subnet cast 20 votes in the space of a week, and they're all 0s or 10s, you know they're cheating.

Two damns, for that, and for Mihail Birykov. I actually got their "scans" in my email and didn't post them, guess somebody else in the site did, since they're absolutely obviously DVD grabs... I'll kill them now (the grabs, not the webmasters who posted 'em :P)
