Chop Zmithy: sculpture, songs, and other stuff

Thought I'd share some stuff I've been doing in the autumn holiday between emptying my bank account and sleeping all afternoon.
I'll begin with a song, a futurama version of Chop Suey! by System of a Down:

Stop n' Drop Suey

It was really awkward (but fun) to write, I've always seen Chop Suey as an uplifting song in a strange kind of way, I think the idea behind it is "Yes your life sucks, but just keep doing your daily routine even though you hate it, if you don't want to commit suicide why complain about life?"
I was going theme my version around that, but couldn't think of anything, although its turned out really depressing, so I'm happy with it          .

Next up, something more cheery, the first page of a comic about Bender's birthday, what do you get for a robot who has already stolen everything he likes from you?

Please let me know if its any good, I liked the jokes when I wrote them , but now the comic is done I'm not sure if they work    .

Also trying out some sculpture, its not finished yet, and probably won't be for a while, as the putty takes ages to dry.

And the comic made me laugh  Great jokes and drawings! Is it going to be this one page or will there be more?

The Leela sculpture is lovely; I'm looking forward to the finished version.

Thanks Lee, ooy and becky, I'm glad you liked my stuff despite the fact that its mostly half-finished... There will be a second page to the comic soon, loaded with Zoidberg.

Thanks Phil        , the new picture is my favourite too.

I might photoshop the comic a little, MS paint didn't do its original pencil sketch any favours.

Thats great! I have loads of shippy ideas buzzing around my head right now, thanks for the encouraging words    .

I'm doing way too many things at once, I've written a fanfic, but I'm not sure whether to turn it into a comic, and then theres a couple of beastie boys songs, some ascii art, a few pencil drawings, and that sculpture, which is getting carved with a scalpel while I watch TV.
Yeah, dumb idea, but I'm careful...

Yay, bring on the shippy!!

Man, your latest picture is fab, I love it! It is very moving and romantic, and very well-drawn.
A funny coincidence is that I also have a picture of Fry proposing (in the works), but it's under different circumstances, so it's only the picture's theme that is the same.

Keep it up, Zmithy, you have many talents. I hope to read another comic-page soon, because I really need a dose of Zoidberg!

Heres a watercolour painting of Leela as the Lady of the Lake, but the scanner didn't pick up the pale tones, and I don't want to change it because it looks really good on the paper - Honest...

A Zoidberg overdose you say? Hooray, I can't get enough Zoidberg!

The Leela picture is awesome, by the way. I really like the style you've done. Her necklace really got my attention, because it looks so real and glassy. The picture is beautiful!

I tried making it a little darker in Photoshop so that the lighter lines could be seen, but I'm not sure if it's like your paper-version. The colors also became weird, but it was the best I could do:

becky- Hmm, its still not much like the original, but thanks for helping me out   .

Cat- Thankyou, that was so upbeat! And congrats on winning the contest.

Futurama Nerd- I thought about doing some oils, but figured photoshop is a lazier way to get similar results.

So, Fry downloaded a Turanga Leela-bot from the Internet? And then he got caught in the act?   

  That picture is so cool, Zmithy! Nice shading on Leela (the real one), and I like the glow on the Leela-bot! I can see that you’ve also toned down her skin color, like the Lucy Lui(sp?)-bots in the show. Great job!

Yeah, its a downloaded Leela, I'm glad you noticed all the details, thanks again for your helpful feedback! I had an idea for a short animation about a Fry and Leelabot love story, with muse's 'plug in baby' as backing to it.

Then, after a quick reality check, I realised I lacked the skill and software to do it, and even if I did, a record company would have got legal on my ass.

And these are some pictures I done back in May, the drawings are dodgy, but I like them anyway:

Also: screw record companies...they don't need to find out, do they? *evil laugh*. But seriously, that would be great as an animation, but if it was not meant to be, it was not meant to be.

Woo! you noticed! I like the effect, but its way too subtle in that pic, I just need more time to get used to photoshop.

I finally finished the comic! They take ages to do, I may just stick to 3 or 4 panel strips in future.

The idea behind it is "Zoidberg leaves  the hospital in 'Bender gets made', then finds a replacement for his happy pills, but can't afford it".

I like how everyone has a different favourite, I'll keep trying out various styles, media etc... I get bored doing the same thing all the time.

Oh, that's picture's awesome, Zmithy! I like the reflection on their glasses and the lines in their hair. I’m looking forward to your comic-strip; your last one was very funny!

The idea with the last picture was to get Fry and Leela looking as realistic as possible by covering up all the bits that look cartoony. I like how it turned out, but I'll keep with groening style for now.

Christmas holidays started today!     
I have to spend them revising for retakes of some maths exams I failed in the summer     , but there should still be plenty of time to doodle.

I felt like drawing something happy this morning:

Heres the new comic, I made more of an effort to photoshop it up, took me ages to finish though, I don't want to see the 'pen' tool for at least a week.

All of your work is awesome. I see that you've discovered the joys of anti-aliasing, and it really pays off. These are some of the best fan comics I have seen in a while. As always, keep up the good work!
