Well... I don't think writing a fanfic is a good idea unless you already have an idea personally, and forcing an idea is never a good idea. If I were you, I'd just keep the whole possibility of writing in the back of my head and then just wait for inspiration to hit by itself. Unless an idea hits you naturally, there's really not much of a point forcing an idea out.

Secondly, when you do decide to write something, I recommend that you consider jokes to be of lesser importance than character, plot and originality, yet at the same time, don't disregard them entirely. A good writer should be able to come up with jokes when writing scenes. Remember, a joke should blend in with storyline and character, not the otherway around.

Other than that, just try to write for yourself and not others. Write the story as if it were a story you'd like to read yourself, make it your own but still make sure it has an overall feel of the show. Good luck  :)

Thanks everyone but as you can see I have already started one... I wrote this a while back before I had any ideas.. it is here in the fan art and fiction threads. You can tell me what you think of it there :)

Based on this picture how old do you guys figure Leela's parents were when they gave birth to her? I'm a horrible judge of age which is why i'm asking. I kinda need a rough estimate for a scene in my fic.

I suck at judging ages, too...but I'd probably say Munda's about 30-ish, and give or take a year with Morris. Probably 30 and 32, respectively. Hope that helps.

Also, I've read your work, Benderfan, and it's some nice stuff. Keep it up.

They could easily be mid to late 20's. Early 30's tops.

I agree with Ol'coot. I might be easier to just guess their age in Season 4 and then subtract 25-28 from that (depending on how you judge time thorughout the series).

I second with MKTai and Ol'coot.

But Benderfan, I found it was really hard to get an idea for a fan fic. It helps if there is a big catch. Righting about a mission gone horribly wrong and everyone is going to die is a good start. But start with a theme, like vampires. Say Fry gets bitten by a vampire and he kills everyone. Just an example. But if you know a lot about something than put it in a format of a Futurama story.

Another lame question by me: What street can you get a decent cup of coffee on in New York? I've never been to NY so i don't know any street names. Preferably in a middle ranking neighborhood, not a real good part of town but not a real bad part of town. It'll only be mentioned in like one scene in my fic but i'd like to get most of my details somewhat correct.

Actually I think knowing what place your talking about helps in a fan fic too. So if your doing something totally made up give explainitory details. If your talking about a real place and don't know much about it, go research!

Go research? Wow that was helpful. There's no real details to give. It's just Fry mentioning going to a coffee place in a possibly questionable neighborhood and i wanted to actually have him mention a street name. and by 'questionable neighborhood' i mean a neighborhood that Fry might find a tad intimidating but one that Leela wouldn't even think twice about walking down alone.

If it were me, I'd get a cup of coffee on Mulberry Street.  That's part of Little Italy...

I don't know, maybe the Donbot hangs out there now or something.  That'd make it intimidating.

I mean that if you don't know any kinda coffee shop aside from Starbucks in New York, it might help to know what you're talking about.
