Well, it certainly was...irreverent.  Matt and Trey take more and more care to be more offensive each time, leaving no envelope unpushed.  Sometimes this works, and is funny, as it was tonight.  Come on!

Seems like everyone liked it except for HJS.

Personally, I loved it. It was more twisted than Red Seigh Down, and that's saying something. The ending where it's revealed that Cartman is making up the story was genius. DTBM was right when he said this was a new classic.

One of the best episodes this season.  Once I saw those cute furry animals named Beary the Bear and Porcupiny the Porcupine, I knew they were going to be taken out Happy Tree Friends style.  And whats a better way then Santa with a Spas shotgun!

Any episode with Santa killing satanic woodland creatures with a shotgun can't be bad.

Oh my god, what an amazingly brilliant & twisted way to end the season. Seriously, that's on par with Mr. Hankey The Christmas Poo as South Park's best Christmas special ever... and second to Scott Tenorman Must Die as the most disturbing episode ever, too.  :p

I loved it... Especially considering that the first 6 minutes or so are just like any other lame Christmas special, until it gets into all the stuff with Satan. I especially loved the fact that even after it's revealed that the animals are Satanic, they still talk the same way. "Aww, gee whiz, Stan!"

And just when I think it couldn't get any more innapropriate, the abortion scene comes in. Loved it all - the fact that everything just became so dark & twisted in what at first appeared to be a custey Christmas special was hilarious, and the joke with the narrator surprisingly didn't get old, either. It's episodes like this that remind me just how much I love South Park.

Wow, what a great note to end a somewhat average-at-times season. This would have to be my second-favourite Season 8 episode, just behind The Jeffersons, and just in front of Quest For Ratings. Seconding DotheBartman - a new classic.  :)

So, what are your scores for each episode this season? Mine are...

To be honest I wasn't as impressed with Woodland Critter Christmas as I was with other recent episodes; I assume the style was spoofing some US show that I don't know so that didn't work for me, and the "it was all a story/dream" ending very rarely works and this wasn't one of the exceptions that did work. That said the episode did have some great laughs such as the creatures worshipping Satan, Santa shooting them all and the abortion clinic  :laff:

I've downloaded the episode (shh!) since you guys were all raving about it (and it would get here in about 2 years or so and I didn't wanna wait).
I expected a great episode but it wasn't THAT good. Was good, but not A+. I'm supporting Tweek's grade.

I thought Woodland Critter Christmas was a great episode!  When I saw the previews to it the first time, I thought for sure the Woodland Critters would be like those progessive secularists that would try to talk the kids into protesting against Christmas.

It was obvious the Woodland Critters would become devil-worshipers, anyway.  And it was cool how the whole story turned out to be one Cartman was writing for class!  I liked at the end where he said Kyle died of AIDS!   Great Christmas episode!  Total genius on Trey and Matt's part!  Better than last year's Christmas episode!

Anyway, here's my ratings for the season:

Good Times With Weapons: 9/10
Up the Down Steroid: 7/10
The Passion of the Jew: 8/10
You Got F***ed in the A: 10/10
Awesom-o: 10/10
The Jeffersons: 10/10
Goobacks: 6/10
Douche and Turd: 10/10 baby ostrich: "KILL ME!"
Something Wallmart This Way Comes: 9/10
Pre-School: 5/10
Quest for Ratings: 10/10 hallcination scene was awesome!
Stupid Spoiled Whore VIdeo Playset: 8/10
Cartman's Incredible Gift: 5/10
Woodland Critter Christmas: 9/10

That episode fucking sucked - it's the second-worst South Park episode next to Tweek vs Craig. Cartman dressed as hitler had been done before, the idea of a 9 year old boy trying to exterminate the jews was just plain moronic, and the episode made no comments on religion or The Passion of the Christ that weren't completely obvious or hadn't already been said before. Plus, Mel Gibson's plot was stupid - it tried so hard for laughs, and yet failed miserably.

The episode barely had any storyline whatsoever, and totally lacked in humour. I only laughed once during the whole thing, and it was only a small laugh, too. The whole episode felt as if they'd been written by some stupid teenager... it just seemed like a horrible attempt at an episode, and everything in it felt so forced.

I said this when I first saw the episode, and I stand by my comments. It hasn't even gotten better with repeated viewings. In fact, if you change the word "movie" to "episode", Stan's line, "That movie sucked - how can they even call that a movie?!", pretty much describes The Passion of the Jew perfectly. It's a horrible excuse for an episode, and I can't see how anyone could possibly like it. If anything, my rating of 2 was too generous towards it, and this is coming from someone who practically worships South Park...

Are Matt and Trey done with Mr. Hankey?  I think it is a little weird that this year's Christmas episode and last year's didn't feature Mr. Hankey?  Wasn't he considered a popular character?

I think they just had trouble writing him into Christmas episodes. Keep in mind that they've only really done 3 Christmas specials centred around him, and the other 4 aren't. Sure, they managed to write him into Red Sleigh Down for a small role (and he was mentioned quite a bit in Merry Christmas Charlie Manson, although was technically never seen), but other than that, I think they're only going to put him in episodes where it's suited.

Besides, keep in mind that Woodland Critter Christmas was just a story written by Cartman, and he hates Mr. Hankey anyway.

I think Mr. Hankey was another one of those things (Kenny deaths, "Respect my authoritah!", Ms Crabtree, Chef Singing) from earlier episodes that Parker and Stone eventually felt had overstayed its welcome, and decided to more or less excise it.  I could still see Mr. Hankey coming back, but I wouldn't count on it.  Even in "Red Sleigh Down" it seemed like they only included him because they felt people would expect it.

Personally I feel that one of the virtures of South Park has always been its willingness (at least past maybe season three) to push people's expectations aside and do away with whatever the creators don't like doing anymore, even when they're considered staples of the show.  It keeps the show fresh.  So while I like Mr. Hankey, if Parker and Stone feel he's overstayed his welcome they might as well just keep him off the show from this point on.

It doesn't matter anyway. Mr. Hankey is a lasergun fuckface. He doesn't deserve any more episodes.

My ratings for the season:

GOOD TIMES WITH WEAPONS: 6/10(overrated by everyone else)

THE PASSION OF THE JEW: 2/10(lame)
YOU GOT F'ED IN THE A: 9/10(for the ending alone)

Well most of the racist stuff Cartman does is supposed to look moronic. Anyway, I liked it and give it at least a 7.8

And you might as well wish death to me Lampy because I thought Goobacks sucked balls. It was just too dull. I never caught on with the TOOK ER JOB thing either. The best thing about that ep is the name Aging Hippie Liberal Douche. Douche and Turd was better, even if everyone saw Trey and Matt spoofing the election a mile away.

Quest For Ratings
Second best episode of the season so far, just behind 'Good Times With Weapons'. So many great scenes, the animals were cute, and Cartman taunting Kenny about not being allowed to come into the newsteam was hilarious.

"Hahahaha we're gonna do a news show, and you can't do it with us, because you are too poor, and poor people don't watch the news! Nanananana!"

"Butters, only gay little dweebs read the funnies."
"Yeah, I read 'em all the time!"

News for Aussie South Park fans: Next week, rather than going on to Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset, SBS are skipping it and airing Cartman's Incredible Gift. The last time they skipped an episode (Proper Condom Use), it aired at the end of the season at 9:00pm with an MA rating.

Now I've checked the schedule, and it turns out that Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset WILL air on the 24th in two weeks time. Nothing about an MA rating yet, although it is set to air at 9:00pm after John Safran's Music Jambouree.

Not that I think it deserves an MA rating... they've got away with far more in other episodes. I think it's either for the pineapple thing or the bit with the girls making the video...

An AUSTRALIAN MA RATING. There's a BIG difference between an Australian MA and an American MA. Not everything works the same way it does in America.

Every episode here usually gets an M rating and airs at 8:30pm. M basically allows you to show things such as frontal nudity, coarse language, drug use, violence, medical procedures or somewhat explicit sex scenes/references. However, if there's too much, or it's too explicit - it'll get an MA rating and won't be allowed to air until after 9:00pm (South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut got rated MA and aired at 9:30pm here back in 2002, although it was totally uncut). And then if it's even too much or too explicit for an MA rating, it'll get an AV rating, but that's a whole different story...

Personally, I don't think any South Park episode as of yet has deserved an MA rating, not even Proper Condom Use. But then again, I'm not the SBS censor, so I don't really get a say in it. All I can say is that airing episodes out of order can screw things up at times (eg. Proper Condom Use aired for the first time at the end of Season 5, thus ruining the continuity with Kenny dying for good in Kenny Dies).

In fact, Season 1 actually got a PG rating in 1998 and aired at 8:00pm, but due to parental complaints, the show changed to an M rating after Not Without My Anus and Season 2 aired at 9:30pm. It's had an 8:30pm Monday slot since Season 3, and I believe there is still one Season 1 episode (possibly Cartman Gets An Anal Probe) that still gets a PG rating...
