Ah, that was it. Larry and Steve. Yes. So many of the What a Cartoon show shorts[also Kablam, Oh Yeah Cartoons, etc] went on in some fashion to fame.. or a reasonable fascimile thereof. I'd rather be a cult figure than a celebrity any day..

Family Guy by a mile. Sure, there's some bad jokes, but it kinda has that "Airplane!"-type approach of throwing everything at the wall & seeing what sticks. But then again, I have a warped sense of humor...my favorite Family Guy scene of all time is the "hey Lois, look! I'm a wishing troll! Heheheheheheh!" line from the "Viewer Mail" episode...that visual of Peter kills me.
South Park...pass. I recognize what they're doing, but the animation & (especially) the voices annoy me too much to care.

Anyone who says that Family Guy is "kiddy" obviously hasn't seen many episodes. I mean, it's nowhere near as racy as South Park, but it DOES push the boundaries. I often wonder how many scenes in Family Guy have gotten to air on American TV, especially considering that it's Fox. Like the episode where Peter & Lois catch Brian (the dog) masturbating. LOIS: Was he just masturba...? PETER: Yes. (uneasy silence) PETER: So... do we rub his nose in it? Still, both shows push the envelope - they just do it in different ways.

I really hate South Park, because it's NOT funny and I don't find any of the jokes amusing. The satire is the kind of incredibly obvious social commentary that I get bashed over the head with whenever I browse the internet. It sucks.
Family Guy -- WHICH IS NOT A SIMPSONS RIPOFF FOR THE LOVE OF GOD -- is hilarious and comes up with jokes and gags that have never been thought of before. Right from the start it says that it is NOT a show about character development or big twists or turns. It's all about the comedy.
Family Guy is technically the spiritual descendent of The Critic, only without character development, but just as funny.
The Simpsons is trying right now to be The Critic, and isn't successful. And by "isn't successful", I mean IT BLOWS.

when I was listening to Simpsons commentary (season 3 DVD), one of the speakers took a potshot at Family Guy...they basically said FG's flashback sequences were a ripoff of the Simpsons. Now, my favorite TV show is the Simpsons by a mile, but I still had to roll my eyes at that comment. Maybe the Simpsons writers need to be brought down to earth & be explained that they don't have the market cornered with said gag...it's been done long before the Simpsons, and it'll be done long after the Simpsons are gone. I mean, alot of the Simpsons gags are HUGE ripoffs, too...so, they need to lighten up and concentrate on making quality episodes, and spend less time bustin' on other shows...

Family Guy is smart, very funny and very observational at various issues.
South Park is a stupid show that's gimmick is to shock people by having eight year old kids swear. It is unfunny and the animination and voices are shit.
FG for me!

what I'm saying is, The Simpsons have slipped a bit over the years (although there's been some great ones this season IMO), so maybe they should worry less about Family Guy alledgedly stealing their ideas, and more about bringing the Simpsons up to par. It wasn't the harshest comment (the flashback gag), but it was a pretty smarmy, arguably spiteful tone.

FG for me! I don't know about you, but you seem to have it pretty backwards. There hasn't been a whole lot of swearing on recent South Park episodes. Maybe you're thinking of the first season, but that wasn't terribly great either. A lot of the best South Park episodes in my eyes were at about the middle of the show's run, from season 2 to the final death of Kenny. I mean, Family Guy isn't really being observant, they're just referencing stuff. Doing their own tongue-in-cheek renditions of what really happen. It's South Park that preaches to you, and that's why I picked Family Guy over South Park, because I hate being preached to by anyone, even if it's for my own good. While South Park is more intelligent, Family Guy is more hilarious.
