Arrested Development is the funniest new show on TV. It almost reinvents the sitcom, and the critics have been almost unanimous in saying it's the best new show of the season. So why are its ratings low?

Seriously. Arrested Development is getting crappy ratings. I don't know why. All I can say is if you haven't seen the show, start watching it. Regularly. And tell as many people as you can to watch it, too. This is the most innovative show in a long time, and FOX knows it, but we all know what they do when a good show gets bad ratings.

Start watching already! Sundays at 9:30 (8:30 central)!

I've watched a few episodes and I think it's really funny, but I always forget to watch it. I'll turn on the TV to see the credits rolling. What I've seen of it was really funny, though.

I don't appreciate you telling me what to do. I also don't appreciate the language content in your post (words like C***).

I have several children who read these boards for some reason and I don't want them having to real words which are offensive.

One of the mods please close this.

^ I said nothing worse than what they say on Futurama. If your kids can't handle that, they shouldn't be here in the first place. (Before you say it, yes, I know you were kidding.)

That's what I thought, too. Turns out they're actually trying to get good ratings for it. They put it on after American Idol one night, and it still got bad ratings. The award-winning comedy of the show may have won the battle (at least they're still airing it), but ratings will ultimately win the war. That's why I'm trying to get people to watch it.

Since I didn't spot the words "cunt" or "cock" anywhere in Zlichy's post, I can only assume you mean "crap". And if you do, you must be offended by 90% of the content of this board. Lighten up.

If you do indeed find the word "crap" to intense for your children, why do you even let them on the internet? Methinks you could find more potentially harmful influences on the web than a feces reference.

If you don't like your kids being exposed to the bad language here, the solution is simple: don't let them read it. It's not really our responsibilty to make sure your kids stay sheltered.

Heh. It's ok, Coop. I knew you were kidding. I won't even have a "just in case you weren't" rant.

Arrested Development is great, from what I've seen. Funny characters, with just enough heart to keep them from getting tiresome. And I love the whole style/pace of the show. I imagine it lends itself really well to repeated viewings(although I haven't actually rewatched any episodes).

I'm glad FOX is trying to push the show, but I don't think they're doing a very good job. They seem to lameify a lot of jokes on the commercials.

Oh, yeah, that whole "on-topic" thing...

Sadly, I've only seen tiny fragments of the show as the stars make the rounds on late-night talk shows -- I am the absoluyte worst at remembering timeslots, and even with that hurdle jumped, remembering to peel myself away from the computer and actually watch.

It looks really funny, though, based on what I've seen. On clip they showed on the Daily Show stands out -- some guys are in an office meeting and a guy is passing out whistes, telling the people in the meeting to blow the whistle whenever someone says something that not true (or something). It quickly devolves into a whistle-blowing noise fest, and the guy collects all the whistles back -- but not without some childish efforts by a couple of the office workers to keep their whistles. It was all very funny.  :laff:

Listen buddy, did I mention I had several children. It takes a village to raise a child, pal. And thats what the internet is, one HUGE village, so expect to be responsible for the things you say. And sure, I could possibly find more offensive words that c*** on the internet, but you have to remember that I use AOL, so the parental controls are so strict that I can't even visit sites that have the letter "A" in them. Which is why I visit PEEL, it's one of the few Futurama websites that doesn't have an "A" in the title. And when I do come here, I don't expect to see the kind of filth that I have seen in this thread.

Let me just say this, how old are you LAN? Does it make you feel tough to use words like that? Do you feel like you're making yourself sound smarter using words like "feces?"

Well, you don't sound smart to me, you sound very uneducated and ill mannered.

And thats all I have to say about that, other than that I enjoy posting here at PEEL, just watch your fucking mouth because kids visit here.

That's true. As much as I may say in FOX's defense, their ads suck. They show the punchline of a whole ep, then add a laugh track to it so they can advertise "LOL Sunday!"

*bump*
Sorry but since there is no other Arrested threads, and the new season started last sunday, I thought it would be apropriate to bump this.

I'm glad that this show is back for a new season.  I first watched the show a month or so ago when FX had a marathon.  I really liked it, it's very funny and well written, last weeks episode was hilarious, and I can't wait for next weeks.

I thought Mo Collins was going to be on the season premiere.  Did I miss her?

I've only seen two episodes in their entirty, but I liked what I saw.  The pilot was great in that weird, "Curb Your Enthusiasm"-sense.  Now I'm going to make sure I'm home every Sunday night just to see it.  If it's really good, I may buy the dvd set...supposedly it's very cheap.

"What were his last words?"
flashback "I just blue myself."

Well, they're putting it on after "The Simpsons", so the only way FOX can make it fail is to let it become successful, then pre-empt it and move it several times until the ratings nosedive.

Which is exactly what they're going to do.

*It's so fucking obvious your lying out of your fucking mouth asshole. I've been on other Message Boards, and people have tried this "parent" gimmick, and it sucks ass. People have picked these gimmick posters apart, and once that happened, I noticed that they never posted again, or if they did post, the posted normally.
And you're a godamned, shitheaded, lying ass motherfucker. If you cared about children reading this stuff, then you wouldn't say 'fuck' in your thread.
And another point. What the fuck is this AOL strictness shit? I have the Master Screen status, and I've tried putting limits on my screen names, just to see what it's like. You could limit your kid's use, but have unlimited use for yourself.
And it's not our responsibilty to make sure your kids are OK. It's yours.
Now I am 99.9% sure you won't read this, but I just had to get this off my chest.
(And I apologize for cursing so much, I just wanted to make this guy mad.)

Getting back to the topic, we all know how FOX treats shows because of ratings. And their promos suck. Make them better.
And TV audiences may be getting smarter. I keep hearing this show is a rip-off of old sitcoms, only with a new "kick" in it. Maybe they finally realized this, and are starting to get tired of it.
But I'm not sure if that's true. I'm just making a theory from what I've heard.*

I think it's pretty much the best sitcom since Seinfeld (with the possible exception of Andy Richter Controls the Universe). If it gets cancelled I'll cry.

I also found out that Mo Collins will be on the second episode along with that hippy guy named John Beard or something (if anyone cares that is.)

Yes I realize that, but still.

I saw the cast on TV Guide channel yesterday, and they said while they were filming the second season, they didn't know if they were cancelled or not.  That's gotta be difficult not knowing if the stuff your filming will even air.

There was an article in the newspaper about AD, and it was like a huge Dejavu. Here are some quotes from the article.

"Cult Show" "Loved by critics" "Not accepted in the mainstream"

Once I read this, I knew I'd like this show. I'm getting the DVD's (if they're out yet) during Thanksgiving.

I really hope this show makes it. It sounds great!

Whenever I see a really funny show, I'm always worried to death that it will suddenly go downhill. I have to say I haven't been TOO impressed with the second season so far. Maybe I'm over-analyzing them, or something, and I can't get into it. Or maybe they've just had a couple of average episodes. But I hope I like the next few episodes more.

If you haven't bought the season one DVD set yet, DO IT. Not only is it a great DVD set, at a reasonable price, but you'll be giving a vote of support to a great show. I honestly don't think the ratings will ever be that great--the show is too good to appeal to Nielson box-having morons. But if enough smart people buy the DVDs, the show can continue.

Secondly, so the people who don't have Nielson Boxes, they don't count in the ratings.

I've sees bits and peaces of the show, and I think it's very funny.  I haven't seen panic attacks that good sense "the producers."  However, because I came in during the second season a lot of the time I have no clue what is going on.  I think that's what's keeping people away.  They're affrad they won't "get" it.
