The Farelly Bros. are doing a three stooges, which is set to be released next year.  The question is who be perfect to play Moe, Larry an Curly and to lesser extents, Shemp, Joe and Curly Joe.

rumor is that Jim Carrey may play Moe and Jack Black may play Curly, but nothing is for sure.

I know it is great that you mentioned Martin Lawrence as Shemp, because it was rumored that Chris Rock or Busta Rhymes would be in talks to play Larry.

I think the better idea is to quietly dispose of everyone involved with this movie, so it never happens.

Considering that Shemp and Moe are cousins, that should make for an interesting family tree.

Shemp, Moe, and Curly were brothers, not cousins.

Martin Lawrence is a brother, right?

...oh, that ain't right.

Anyway, my picks are Christopher Walken, Willem Dafoe, and Steve Buscemi. Clint Howard is also a possibilty... thought that's the cast of another movie idea my brothers and I have.

Sorry, I was wrong. They are brothers.

Does anyone remember Joe? The other fat stooge?

Yeah, Curly Joe as he was called wasn't very good. He was just really fat.

He wasn't bad. He was just very...flamboient, in fact, he seemed a little fruity.

Eh, Shemp was the best third stooge. My biggest issue with Joe was the fact that he kind of jumped on board right as Larry and Moe where getting old and couldn't do much any more, which resulted in the quality of the films going down. I guess it really wasn't Joe's fault, just a wrong place, wrong time type thing.

Some people said Shemp was the funniest, but others say Curly was the most popular.

Curly was the funniest stooge.  Interestingly, he replaced Shemp when the boys went to Hollywood in the early '30s. Shemp then replaced Curly when Curly retired in 1947.

Shemp deserves more credit than he receives, but he suffered from constant comparison with Curly.

Joe Besser was a funny guy, but he just wasn't a stooge. He just didn't fit in.  Supposedly, he replaced Shemp only because he was already under contract at Columbia.  The poor quality of the Joe films is mostly due to the fact that these were the last two reel short subjects being produced in Hollywood, and they had almost no budget.

Joe DeRita (Curly Joe) was a perfect fit as the third stooge.  He did a fine job during the Stooges movie career (1959-1966).  In fact, his tombstone says "the last Stooge", which he was when he died.

Personally, as much as I love the Stooges (hey, even Shakespeare said "all the world's a stooge" ), I think a Stooge movie would be a disaster.  The art of slapstick is stone cold dead, and I can't think of anyone who could play these roles properly.

Ashton Kutcher would make a good Larry or Shemp.  He has already been in slap stick comedy movies.

Here's my Stooge cast:

Moe:  Russell Crowe
Larry:  Jon Lovitz
Curly:  John C. Reilly
Shemp:  Steve Buschemi

My favorite Stooge has always been Moe.  My sister Hailey's is Shemp.  We even have two Maltese dogs, mine is named Moe, and Hailey's is named Shemp.

I hope it's nothing like the awful made-for-TV movie on ABC. Well, at least they did a pretty accurate biography on their lives.

The movie will be as if the Three Stooges were around in the 21th century.  It will not focus on their biographies, think of it as a long, huge budget short and it is in color.  It may take place mostly in LA.
