What do you think about the classic tv series from the 70s and what do you expected from the upcoming movie (release in March)? When i am thinking about the last movie versions of legendary tv series like SWAT or Wild Wild West all this new versions were crap and I am afraid that the same will be happen with the new Starsky & Hutch movie though Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller are fine comedy actors.

I expect Snoop Dogg will be the shizzle my nizzle.

I never watched the 70's show, but I expect good things from Stiller and Wilson, if Zoolander is anything to go by.

At least they are making a comedy out of it an dnot taking it too seriously.  I think it will be ok, not great but ok.  I will see it in the theatre.

Starsky & Hutch was one of my favorite series in the 70s. I have loved the dialogues and the atmosphere. Well and David Soul (#1 hit with "Don't give up on us" in 1977) was also a great singer.

SWAT was far from legendary, at least in the US. When the movie came out, most people didn't even know it was based on the TV show, or that it even existed.

You are right. But take other series like The Saint, I Spy or The Avengers. All this movie versions were annoying spoofs when you compare them with the original TV series.

which might also have something to do with the fact that movies work differently than tv series. but you probably know that already...

That may be true, but it's no reason for every movie based on a TV series to be a lame parody of some sort.

MASH belongs to the few examples where the movie version and the tv series were equally good.

Yeah, but with MASH, the movie came first.  No one's saying there haven't been any good TV shows based on movies, we're saying there aren't any (to my recolection) good movies based on TV shows.

Hmm... good point.  Star Trek II, IV, VI & First Contact are excepeted from my above statement.

And actually, I'm holding onto some hope for the Starsky & Hutch movie.  The ads make it look pretty good.

I think it will turn out well. Wilson and Stiller are a good duo. The show was never meant to be all that serious anyway.  Long live Huggy Bear.

The movie looks really funny, they team up with Snoop Dogg! Snoop Dogg  :p I Spy, i think was the name of the movie that Owen starred in along side Eddie Murphy, that's a pretty funny movie, i liked Ben Stiller in Meet the Parents and i can't wait for the sequal to that.

they should make a happy days movie, and either make it serios or make it realy goofy like the brady buch movies. ron howard can direct and itd be real funny if it starred a bunch of kids and than have henry winkler play the fonz.

I went to a sneak preview of the film tonight. If you lower your expectations, you have a good time. It wasn't as funny as it could've been and some of the jokes were a little forced. But the rest of the film was pretty good and I would reccommend seeing it.

ps. Snoop Dogg was the best part of the movie.
