I thought is was OK but it seems if they are not careful it turn into another Voyager.  Also I think it is kind of a stretch they are going to defeat the race that defeated the Ancients when Earth is only beating the Goa'ulds because of the technology of the Ancients and help of alien allies.  *italic-text*

Also Sal this is the link to the new show on Scifi http://www.scifi.com/atlantis/

*BUMP*

For the past few weeks, I've been watching Atlantis every Friday nite when new episodes premier. And i have to say, it just keeps getting better and better. I think that this has an AWESOME cast and its really funny. I dont think it can compete with the good ol' SG-1 we've all come to know and love, but it is still hugely entertaining.

Oh and SG-1 hasnt faded at all either, as this seasons episodes of that show are great too. It's hilarious seeing O'Neil as General in charge of the SGC. I was a bit skeptical at first about him not going on missions and taking a more backseat part on the show, but he still gets a whole lot of on-air time and is as funny as ever.

Same with Nasty Pasty, I have been watching Atlantis every Friday, and I think it's great. I don't think I like it better than SG-1, but it is great.

I am going to have to say the writing on Atlantis has not been that good, kind of weak actually.  Like the episode were they get caught in the gate.  They already had that episode on Stargate.  Dr. Wier isn't a very well written female lead.

I dont think Wier has bloomed to her full potential yet. Give her time.

I just wish they had made her character British with an accent....

Ok.. If this new episode of Stargate this Friday is true, then the rest of the season is going to suck..

the Scifi channel preview for next week's SG-1 basically says that they de-classify the stargate and show it to the public.

It's probably a load of shit, but who knows.

Hmmmm, if it's true, it's not like we didn't see it coming.
And it is the last season after all, before the movie... right?

Yep, it's the last season for Stargate SG-1, so it's logical that they'd cough up the stargate to the rest of the world at some point.  I think it will make for some interesting viewing.

It's always had some comedy mixed in, did you see the 100th episode?

Stargate SG-1 movie info.
There were rumours back in Season 6 it wouldn't be made because of lower ratings that season.  :(
I'm optimistic.

I heared they have been kicking around the idea of a movie but the chances seem less with Atlantis.  SciFi seems to be puting all there eggs into that basket.  But I am happy we got 8 seasons of stargate even if there is never a movie.  They had a chance to put everything in its place as it were.

It has its ironic moments but all in all its a serious show.

It's been ages since they've shown stargate here.
I barely remember it at all...

wew, i was so scared before last week's new SG-1 that they were going to declassify the StarGate program like they said in the preview.

But thankfully, the mystery continues...

I actually was disappointed I thought it would be kind of good if it came out.  Then maybe there could be a big final show down with troops on Earth and people would be ready and prepared.  Or maybe the reverse with a giant army of Earth invading Baals home planet.  I don't know just my ideas for a big finale.

I too have been wondering how they would end the series. My guess is that it would somehow involve the declassification of the Stargate program, but other than that, I really dont know...

Well there's a Stargate SG-1 Magazine offer out now, Magazine, DVD with 3 chronological episodes, and free gift for subscribers, for €12.99 (£7.99) per issue.

Website.

The price is a bit steep considering you can get a whole season for £29.99 from play.com (works out as £179.94 for season 1-7!)
The magazines look cool though.
I'm conflicted.   :hmpf:

I was wondering if any of you guys caught the Summer Finale of SG-1 last nite.

I thought it was great. It had alot of action and a very weird plot. Definetly left open for later episodes.

Bah.
Hurry up Sky One!

Why do shows always have to have at least one episode called Endgame!?   :laff:
I'm pretty sure there was a Star Trek and I'm sure there was an Alias episode with it.

"Endgame".

*shudder*

That brings back bad memories. It was the title of the utterly awful "Star Trek : Voyager" finale.

Do not get me started.  ;)

Suffice it to say that Voyager's "Endgame" illustrated all the factors which led to the show's downfall after the fourth season, to me.

"Summer Finale"?

i.e, "We're stopping episodes at the end of September with a cliffhanger. Fuck you, fans!"

I wanna see what haaaappens!!

EDIT: Good point CK. Voyagers finale was kinda wanky, and abrupt. I really wish someone could beat the execs at Paramount over the head with a spade until they realise that WE'RE FUCKING TIRED OF TIME-TRAVEL.

"So Teal'c..... what's with the hair?"
Well, a good start to Season 8, nice to see the Asguard back again.
I liked Stargate Atlantis aswell (although I was surprised it's live action and not animated like I had previously thought...)
I was also surprised only O'Neill and Daniel were present at the teams departure to Atlantis... I would have thought Carter and Teal'c would get outta bed for it!
I hope they don't bone it up and turn it into a completely whacky spin-off with wizards and ewoks and crap, it's bad enough they have a cheaper Gate than SG-1, but at least some of the characters are likeable.  :)

I can explain why Sam and Teal'c weren't in Stargate Atlantis.  Basically it's for legal reasons.  Atlantis has been deemed a spin-off of the movie Stargate, and not SG1, which means that characters from the movie (O'Neill, Daniel) can appear in it, but not characters created for SG1 (Sam, Teal'c).

Eh... Dr. Weir and Dr. McKay were big enough SG-1 characters.

Edit: Has to be linked - Stargate SG-1 LEGO!

Haha, awesome.

I'll have to go and check the article I read.  But characters in films and TV shows are usually "owned" by whoever created them, so the writers who created Weir and McKay are within their rights to use them on Atlantis.  And don't forget - Weir was created with the specific intention of her being an Atlantis regular.

I actually like the blue Stargate (but not the wormhole effect - I prefer SG-1's), even though it's a cheaper effect.

One question, though - how the heck did the team who went through to the Athosians know the address to get back to Atlantis? The symbols on the Pegasus gates are totally different (and much harder to distinguish from one another, in my opinion).
